Powerful stuff, helped me make a good decision today.. the way you answered the question of how much were you doing at your worst, was so very classy and extremely relatable.. love bro. Blessings to both of you..

Very relatable. I quit alcohol 6 years ago. I say it's like taking your life off pause. I remember not being able to look myself in the eyes when looking in a mirror. In order to quit I really had to deconscruct why it was I was drinking. I realised I felt I couldn't socialise and be myself without alcohol, it was social anxiety. In the process of learning how to be comfortbale being myself around people while sober, I've found all my natural confidence again, I've grown so much and I've also learned that I'm Autistic. Masking with alcohol for 20 years I was never able to tune in to how i actually felt. Realising I'm autistic has been a huge help, it's given me a frame work of understanding about how I feel and begave in certain situations, so I'm no longer spiralling into deep depressive periods where I might want alcohol to escape again. I sometimes think about how shit life would be if I didn't quit and I didn't come to understand myself so well that I'm now comfortable being me. Best advice anyone can have is "know yourself". Ask yourself why, all the time. Why do I do this, why do I think like this etc? Answering those questions will change your life for teh better.

And trust me, alcohol would always lead to "the sesh". Other drugs etc Alcohol is pure shite. Ask yourself why do you drink, why do you really drink?

I'm Autistic and had an alcohol problem. I didn't feel like an addict, and what I came to learn is that alcohol really helps with masking autism but comes with a ton of problems. I quit booze 6 years ago and changed my life. Now, I might recreatioanlly do other "party" drugs intentionally, once in a blue moon and it genuinly causes me no problem because my alcohoil problem was not addiction. I was using alcohol to self medicate autism. So for me 12 steps doesn't make any sense. I don't like the whole labelling myself as in recovery forever etc. And also 12 steps would say I'm still an addict because I use recreational drugs on rare occasions. I think this is the fundamental problem with 12 steps. It's great for so many people, but for Autistic people or other neurodivergent people, people with OCD etc I feel like there are other, more suitable roads to recovery.
