Big fan of your dressing, and content delivery. I dressed up in business attire for a doctor's visit, an eye check up. I was fast tracked during the entire process, the nurses and doctors treated me with utmost respect and I had a very positive experience.

I think the style has to fit your lifestyle. I grew up in a household from the ww2 generation. Mother was from Florence, italy and she modeled for Dior in Paris in the 1950's. Father Irish, executive for IBM. I learned shooting and dressing in tweed how to ride horses and other pursuits. I played polo in my teens. Today I'm a physician. There are very few people left that understand about the lifestyle and or the style fits the man. I remember back in the 80's going to England for the Henley regatta, it was a wonderful experience.

Ash, when I reached the age of 55 l decided to ditch my entire wardrobe and reinvent as a man of gentlemanly style instead of one of fashion. Be it casual or formal, my now vast repertoire has become one of sartorial elegance. Whenever l dress myself I have a ball putting together various looks. I believe that as a man walks his world presentation is of utmost importance. Firstly, one has to own it. People notice everywhere you go and they like it and are influenced by it. Positive comments roll in all the time. I have been feeling like a king. Really, I'm just a humble guy. Heck, I've got humbleness I've never used yet 😂! People whom I see frequently have upped their game significantly. I have guided the ones interested to your channel for advice. There are a couple of others of high regard l put on the list as well. Keep up the great work. Cheers!

Great advice Ash. I have done this myself. Not sure why people would want to go to work wearing their pajamas? I see this a lot at the grocery. Seems to me people who do this I've just given up on life. Dressing well will and does boost your confidence. I don't really care what other people think. Cheers Ron

As with anything in life, if you want to make the world better, start with yourself. Unfortunately, in today's world, too many of our leaders forget how to lead by example.

Hey Ash! Thanks again for your insights. My nephew is being baptized at the end of September and I decided that even though button downs and chinos would probably be what most of my relatives wear I took the opportunity to find a second hand navy 6x1 suit which I plan on wearing. It’s actually from Mark and Spensers so nothing particularly high end but the fit is good and I could actually afford it (increasingly a challenge these days). As you mentioned in a video once can be leveled up with some good shoes and accessories. It may not be Chap worthy but hopefully it’s a solid step down the trail.

I enjoyed this indeed. The psychology of dressing sharp reminds me of actors mentioning that when they wore their costumes they felt like they were immediately drawn into the role they were supposed to play. Also, even when working from home, it's recommended to dress as if going to work. Quality clothes do make a difference, and are above all, a pleasure to wear.

Happy to hear Jay’s success story, particularly in the PACNW where everything is lowest common denominator. But, when your environment has no objective standards (in contrast to your RAF example) and the accepted rule is casual slob (especially true on the US West Coast), I’d consider whether Jay’s success represents the far flung exception before charging up that sartorial hill solo. Again, happy it worked out for him. But, 999 times out of 1000, I see the lowlives drag down the superior human being, not accept a challenge to elevate themselves. Insult to injury, when the outlier refuses to be dragged down, the lowlives will turn against him/her en masse with particular venom and make life miserable. My two suggestions - (1) see if a friend or two will do it with you; (2) small, incremental sartorial improvements, each sustained consistently, over a long time.

I’m not a style leader by any means, but I have noticed amongst my wider work colleagues (I work for a local authority) a trend towards dressing well, post lockdown and with many returning to an office environment - more neckties being worn, well tailored jackets and suits, good stout brogues, country tweeds and so on. It’s lovely to see, and whenever I bump into a well-dressed colleague I always complement them, which is reciprocated.

When I visit a restaurant I’ll usually put on something like a single breasted navy blazer, chinos, tie, square and buttonhole. Not a suit, not particularly formal but certainly not sportswear or ripped jeans. Perhaps there's a time and a place for those but I suspect it was at least 30 years ago for a 50 something man like me! The last two times that I’ve taken my parents for Sunday lunch I’ve been told by waiting staff that I look very smart and asked if I had been to a wedding. I answer with that I should dress well out of respect for my parents and out of respect to the restaurant, you the staff and my fellow diners. On both occasions the manager has then come and introduced themselves to us and thanked us for making an effort and given us a small gesture of thanks. See you next month, thank you again Ash.

In my experience, this hasn’t worked this way. I’m in my 50s and I work with a lot of 20-something’s and a number of men older than that…but still dress like they’re in their 20s…or younger. They are all completely dumbfounded by my brogues, chinos and sports jackets. They look at me like I’m wearing a tux. Many have even called it a “suit.” I do business sales for a highly successful tech company. If anything, I’m under dressed. But, their superhero t-shirts, sweatpants and flip flops (or worse: Crocs) are not only considered acceptable, but even celebrated. It’s maddening.

As you may know, I had a double bypass in March (part of the reason I did not make it to Philly earlier this summer). While I was in rehab facility after leaving the hospital, I insisted on wearing a dress shirt and trousers every day instead wearing hospital gowns or sweat pants. It reminded me that I would get better. One day a pair of student nurses came in as part of their training and kept asking “where do you think you are going, on a date?”
