I would rather have a scar than a tattoo, as the famous stuntman Evil Kenevil said "Injuries heal, bones mend and chicks dig scars".

There is no-one who can't afford quality clothing with natural fibres if you are prepared to buy second hand. My local market sells pleated flannel trousers for £5, shirts for £2-3, V-neck pullovers for £5, etc. All for less than the cost of one H&M t-shirt

Actually, here in Germany and Austria the tattoo trend is reversing: Younger people are now avoiding tattoos and many tattoo parlors are closing. I spoke to some younger people and they indicate that actually having no tattoos is way to stand out, even when their parents had tattoos, in my opinion tattoos were trendy and fashionable to ca. 2020. Now even in fashion shows and marketing advertising they become less obvious.

Both my Grandfather and Father had big old school type tattoos. I never had the need or feeling for tattoos. At the same time, my dad was all sartorial. Nice suits and dress shoes were his thing.

The late and great Sean Connery a.k.a. Bond had a tattoo on one of his forearms. I personally think that fits the character of Bond perfectly.

Tattoos: My attitude is that they are a permanent reminder of a temporary infatuation. I have a couple of tattoos that really count for me and they are hidden and they don't need to be portrayed for all to see . They are the scars on my heart, and I have more than I want.

At fifty-eight, I have no tattoos, and to be honest, find them repulsive on both men and women. To me, they make everyone look coarse and cheap -but I do understand that this is perhaps a rather old-fashioned, somewhat conservative opinion. Having said that, I know some wonderful people who have tattoos. My working-class father, who shoveled coal into the boiler on a steam engine on the Canadian National Railway, never left the house without a suit and tie, a pair of lace up leather shoes, and a topcoat and a hat. The private Catholic high school I attended for five years had a uniform of navy blazer, grey flannel trousers, white shirt, and striped tie, so I developed a sense early on that there was something to be said for dressing with style. As a Catholic high school teacher of thirty years, sport coats with ties and flannel trousers with leather shoes were my daily attire. From my early adulthood, I have always opted for high quality pieces of clothing over cheaper alternatives. -I've got a tweed flat cap I bought almost forty years ago on sale at Harry Rosen, and I wore it out for my morning walk today. I firmly believe that you do not have to have a lot of money to dress well. I regularly find high quality shirts, ties, sport coats, suits, and top coats at thrift stores and second hand shops for pennies on the dollar. Other items, in my case quality leather shoes in a size 12 EEE, can be purchased on eBay for between a third and half of their full retail price. For hats, given that I wear a size 7 7/8th, I've had to bite the bullet and pay full retail, as virtually nothing is available in this size of a decent quality at any thrift shop or online platform I have ever come across. If you dress in a classic style, your clothes will never go out of fashion and you can wear core pieces literally for decades. (Navy blazers today don't look any different than they did when I was in high school forty years ago.)

Regarding cultural clothing, being from a Scandinavian country I try to use a bit of Scandinavian patterns in knitwear. Not only go for British Fair Isle patterns, even though I really like those as well.

In the part of the world I live in a JANKER is a way of wearing a "national costume" without it being too obtrusive. It's the German/Austrian answer to a Scottish tweed jacket. Just google pictures of it.

Thank you for sharing such intriguing information! Could you kindly provide details on what was utilized to remove the stains from the tie? If possible, could you mention the brand or provide a link to the product? Thank you and I wish you a wonderful day ahead!

Synthetic materials are not biodegradable so that's one more factor in favour of natural fibres.

Interesting observations. In my case, I may say I have had an instinctive appreciation and admiration for elegant formal attire since I was in my twenties (I am 65 now) and, since I was never well-off I had to research carefully before buying anything. Although at that time (the 1980s) there was no Internet, I listened to my elders and I never bought anything because of its brand name. Like Ash and Chris said, there is no excuse to buy polyester ties. Apart from a couple of Christian Dior ties, all my other ties are from unknown brands but they are beautiful and cost me very little. BTW, I have a tie almost identical to the one Ash is wearing and I would like to know the provenance of Chris´beautiful tie. Regards

hi there, the tie is from Charles Tyrwhitt, 100% silk woven in Italy. I brought it off eBay for under £10 and it came still in it's cellophane sleeve 🙂

For London, I like a few Items, Rubber Dainite sole boots, very dark jeans, rollneck, Burberry style raincoat, long umbrella. I prefer the cheaper Casio Watches (Just in case), Smart Ring set up for contactless payments for a train, bus a coffee (The fewer times you get the wallet out in the city the better). Edit: As for Tattoos, I have a few but If I wore a T-Shirt or Shorts, you might see a 'hint' of one peeking under the T-Shirt arm. I decided not to have them highly visible (My Opinion) because I don't believe they will be fully accepted in society and in my 20's when I had them done. I didn't want to hurt my employment prospects, have friends who's careers were massivly dented due to visible tats on hand, neck (None had any on the face).

Interesting video gentlemen, tattoos? Having been inspired by the dress code of for example the Royal family , county aristocracy and the well heeled in the way I have tried to dress. I have yet to see many or indeed any of them sporting on display tattoos? However? maybe I have missed them. As a 70 year old and like you Ash from a family who are without body art, tattoos or piercings i don't understand the attraction, as an employer for many years in the restaurant trade I would not have employed anyone for out front service with visible tattoos or piercingings. Formal attire either in uniform or social tattoos and/or piercings look out of place and i would find it difficult for example to take say a judge, barrister, police officer or any authoritarian figure serious were they adorned with visible body art. In my humble opinion I think they make the wearer in many cases appear aggressive which im sure is in many cases the absolute opposite to what they were trying to achieve. However as always I stand to be corrected. Great videos keep them going.

Tattoos are low class and gross. People who are stuck with them generally regret them as they get older.
