I suggest toying around with the advance settings, it gives you choices of how the front quarters are set, length of jacket, slim or classic fit. Its neat if you despise slim fit.

Hi Ash. I tried Okerty months ago and I recognize that the principle is very attractive. I ordered a suit and I received a too straith jacket and a too large trouser. I modified my measurements and my second suit came ... exactly like the first one. I also noticed light differences in the shoulders' conception. So I can say that Ockerty is not satisfying for me. On an other hand, a month ago I tried Lanieri for a blazer. The measurements system is equivalent, there is maybe less shape possibilities and it is more expensive. But the blazer is just perfect. Thank you for your interesting advices and your clear and pleasant prononciation (I'm French).

Had my first fitting at Maximilian Mogg last week: pretty much perfect right off the bat. The missing 5-10% should get fixed for the second fitting. However: not all MTMs are created equal! I've seen loads of poorly fitting MTM products which made you wonder, whether the companies have been doing anything at all to adjust the underlying block measurements to the clients needs. Especially, when your physique differs noticably from the (fashion) standard, slightly more expensive MTM companies are the way to go.

Made in China. I ordered a Winchester dress shirt from Hockerty and was extremely disappointed. After giving them my exact measurements and stating not to make the shirt a slim fit, they did anyway. The shirt came two sizes too small. The shirt is unwearable. I contacted them and was told it could not be returned since it was custom made, but they would give me a 20% discount if I wanted to reorder the shirt. Now I’ve wasted over $100 and have a shirt I can’t wear. Bad company.

I've actually ordered from Hockerty back in 2012 when they were know as Tailor4Less. At the time, I thought the suit was too tight and closely-fitted. Little did I know they were just ahead of the curve, since James Bond was wearing suits like that in Skyfall. Of course, later in 2017 when they were now rebranded as Hockerty, I ordered a pair of trousers from them with the same measurements expecting them to be slim, only now they were too wide! It seems I just can't win.

Hi Ash, As a gentleman of, shall we say, a similar age, I have also found Hockerty to be an absolute bargain. I'm quite hard to fit, being rugby second row shaped, and I always find that if jackets fit my shoulders and chest, they inevitably billow round the waist like a circus tent. I AM on first name terms with the tailor who usually does my alterations, but it's so nice to be able to find something that fits reasonably well, straight away. The key, as you so rightly said, is accuracy in the measurements. You may be aware that Hockerty have an extended customisation menu at the bottom of the page, for things like lapel width, and also an extended measurements menu. I've found them an absolute pleasure to deal with, and I've been recommending them to chaps in my area. Keep up the good work, and keep on chapping!

They also offer high rise trousers to your specifications but you have to make a special note for that. It would be easier if they had that option visible with the rest of the custom options.

@tayediggs23 Perfectly! We followed all directions from the measurement videos and I do like my suit with a little room so we pushed the numbers by only half to one cm on each. The one measurement I wouldn't have changed was my waist for the slacks but I like the looks of suspenders so everything was fine in the end. Very comfortable and the material was nice even though it wasn't the thick heavy material I imagined it would be like the suits of days past it still seems like it is good quality as I didn't find a bad stitch or loose thread anywhere. Overall I'd order from them again but I'm hoping I can maintain my size for my remaining 4 children's weddings but if not it wouldn't break the bank to buy another.

Good morning Ash, Congratulations on your wonderful new suit. It looks great. I like products made from wool and especially British tweed. These fabrics are difficult to buy here. Therefore I had some bespoken clothes made for me. For example trousers made of extra thick tweed, especially for winter time. The decisive moment in a made-to-measure production is the honest measurement. Otherwise it won't fit later. Hockerty seems like a great option to me. Good quality at fair prices. I'll try it out next year. best regards, Mathias

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, looking on the website I’m amazed by the amount of customisation when you switch to the advanced you can get fuller leg or slimmer leg and double pleat and cuffs and lapel width is a game changer as that’s not something you often get. Have looked at Hockerty before, but although there are a number of options there are many many things missing. I'd like to move all my trousers away from belt loops in favour of aide fasteners and braces if required. While there is the option of having brace buttons added you cannot remove the belt loops and have fasteners. Rather worryingly there is no mention that I can see on canvas options. One would have to assume that it is a fused canvas, if present at all. Also no mention of lining in trousers. Shame as this could be spot on. Will review in 6 months to see if things have changed. If they have I will five it a go.

I treat the buying of a suit in the same way you would chose a watch. (Or a good pair of shoes) in other words I invest a lot of money in the process. It isn’t something I have done very often, the cost is frightening, but the result is on a whole different level. If one could afford a bespoke suit made at a reputable tailor’s shop, I would heartily recommend it. Not to belittle the online tailor you have reviewed, but using a watch analogy, it seems very much entry level, while I prefer a Rolex! (Grande Seiko actually, but you know what I mean ;-)
@pasquale782 жыл бұрын
Hi Ash, I thought that a made to measure suit would be much more expensive. I really like the idea of custom ordering a suite. Hockerty really has a gamechanger here in my opinion. By the way, I took your advice to have a sit down with my local Rolex AD, while I was in there to refit the bracelet of my Aqua Terra. The chap told me that he was able to get an Explorer 1 36mm for me within the timeframe I gave him. (which was one and a half to two years, the year I turn 45) That surprised me. He even told me it wasn't nessecary to go on a list right now, but I could wait untill nex year. He was also very open and hounest about waiting lists and how it worked and he asked me questions about my potential purchase, which felt more like an interview. Questions as to the occasion I was going to buy the watch for and how I felt about the increasing value of the watch. I told him it was for my 45th birthday and that the value of the watch didn't matter to me since I was never going to sell the watch on. I think I deamed worthy enough to get on the list because of this conversation. So thank you Ash for your advice and example of how to buy a Rolex in this day and era.
@TheChapsGuide2 жыл бұрын
That's great news about a potential Rolex purchase. despite the considerable negativity towards Rolex Ads that I see on KZbin and other social media platforms, my own experiences have been largely positive and I have always been able to land the pieces that I really wanted within reasonable time frames. As I repeatedly state in my videos, it is really about about forming a relationship with the AD, so that they can trust you and sell to you with confidence that you will not flip the watch and devalue the brand. The Explorer has turned out to be a really great purchase and Ive been wearing it solidly since I purchased it. In fact, it has sent my other new watch (the Pepsi) straight off to the safe. The Explorer is so easy to wear and comfortable, as well as looking so damn good! I'll be making a full review in the new year, after I've lived with the piece for a few more months. Hockerty does indeed offer a great package for the sartorially minded gentleman. I was offered a free sample, so understandably I went full guns and selected a high end fabric and opted for numerous add-ons, which enhanced the overall cost, but a really good suit could be achieved for a very modest price. Best regards, Ash
@pasquale782 жыл бұрын
@@TheChapsGuide I look forward to your review on the Explorer, just like I do with everyone of your videos. I can’t tell you how exited I am to finally be in the position to buy a Rolex. I was going to order a trenchcoat from Hockerty but I've heard that their fabrics aren't waterproof like they claim neither are they durable. I'm also reading stories of people receiving incorrect orders and customer service being unresponsive when raising a dispute. Having watched your interesting video I spent some time spec'ing the sort of suit I want: something along the lines of those seen in the 1930's style artwork you used in some of your thumbnails. But it slowly dawned on me that the fabrics offered will not justify the final price. They are mostly mixes that are half natural fibre at best. So here's my problem: if one is the sort of chap who savours well made traditional Goodyear welted leather shoes and then spends time polishing them till you can see your face in them (as I do), are you really going to opt for a suit that's made of 50% polyester? If style rules, then so do natural fibres.
@TheChapsGuide2 жыл бұрын
I agree, I only ever buy natural fabrics these days - life is too short for polyester. This type of MTM suit is fairly low in price and perhaps favours the less sartorially fastidious (unlike us old chaps).

Brilliant video. I’m just looking at the website and I’m looking for a navy blazer. The problem I have is I know nothing about fabrics. I mean one of the fabrics I am looking at is 80% wool and the rest is man- made Fibre. Do you think that would be ok as I’ve always gone for 100% wool. I know nothing about man- made mixtures. Hope you can advise
@TheChapsGuide2 жыл бұрын
The fabrics are not world class and we could not realistically expect such at these modest prices, but if you aim for the highest blend on real wool you will be heading in the best direction. In many cases, the man-made element is added to improve durability or to add dynamic movement (stretch) to the material, which can be advantageous for the wearer.

what lapel width do you reccomend? since modern clothing has alot of very narrow lapels im not sure if the standart option is a classic size can you maybe confirm that?

Avoid very narrow, as they will immediately date your suit. It will depend on the type of lapel, notched or peaked, as peaked are generally wider. But as a rule of thumb, I would suggest aiming for the middle ground. That way your garment will avoid becoming prematurely dated.

I've had MTM suits and sport jackets made by Burtons in the past which entailed an experienced tailor doing the measurements and offering advice. I think it's virtually impossible to accurately measure oneself to the degree needed for a remote service and since the Burtons type service is no longer available, and wanting something better than ready-to-wear I'm seriously considering going bespoke, with all the cost that entails, rather than court the disappointment I feel is inevitable when using an online service. I've looked at several such companies' websites and I'm just not convinced. I'm sure 'I'd simply be throwing money away.

Hockerty are a joke. I got them to make me a pea coat, provided exact measurements as well as using their tool and double checked measurements. They sent the jacket with the chest size 6” too big! Ordered a 46, they cut a 52”! Their “quality control” missed something made so much bigger it was like a tent. They’re customer service is slow to say the least. To get a remake I have to pay MYSELF to ship it back to China and inky then will it be remade. It’s abysmal and they’re fit guarantee is evidently a lie. AVOID Hockerty!!! I have ordered from Hockerty since they were Tailor4Less (10+ years). On my last order of 13 dress shirts, 5 were sent without the collar interliner or sewn in collar stays. I reached out to customer service about the manufacturing issue. Customer service proceeded to tell me I choose "soft collars" in the customization. I explained I did not and that "soft collars" was not even an option to choose. I was then told on the advanced version of their website it was an option. I emailed back that I was not even aware there was an advanced version of their website and would be happy to show them via Zoom what my configuration options are. They responded back, sorry I choose the option and they made the shirts as I requested therefore they would do nothing. So I am now stuck with 5 of 13 dress shirts that are made incorrectly. After 10+ years, I will never order from Hockerty again and I suggest you save yourself the same frustration and lost money.
