The Bears OL was straight up bad last year. There were 4-5 games where Jones, Jenkins, and Wright were solid, but with injuries and bad performances, it wasn’t good. Patrick, Whitehair, and Davis were ranked among the worst in the league with shockingly bad performances against Green Bay, Minnesota, New Orleans, and Cleveland. This is why the Bears OL gave up the most pressures in the league. And note, pressures are typically tabulated before the QB holds and/or breaks and rolls, so some of it is not on Fields. And don’t get me started on Bears Center penalties, bad snaps, missed assignments and 1 v 1 matchup losses. A bad performance by a Center is a FORCE MULTIPLIER and probably only second to the QB as they are the only other player to touch the ball on every down, set snap cadence, help with protection, build rhythm. Caleb will struggle if the Center can’t get it together.

Bear OL graded out top 5 in rush & pass play win rates. The problem was the GB mole OC, and a qb that couldn’t pull the trigger.

@@psygolf7120 that’s not true. I subscribe to PFF and I don’t see that ranking. The Bears OL ranked 23rd in pass block and run block in 2023. The Center position with Lucas Patrick was ranked 50th! The team led the league in pressures allowed.

Caleb and CJ are very different QB’s. I don’t think Caleb will be running outside the pocket like he did at USC. Schematically CJ is in a far better situation. They both have phenomenal situations weapons wide, but Caleb off rip has no excuses considering how people talk about in coming out of college. They made sure they got him everything needed to be successful right out the gate.
