Should've drafted Demidov #2 and traded for Montreals #5. They literally refuse to talk about it bc they know how stupid it was NOT to do this. Anaheim was deadset on Sennecke, Blue Jackets were deadset on Linstrom, and Montreal was deadset on Demidov. Take Demidov and trade for Levshunov pick - who was projected as low as 7th-11th.
@JR101A7 ай бұрын
As Greg pointed out, the Ducks could've taken Levshunov as they need defensive help, so there's no guarantee he would've fallen to #5.

I don't get how Montreal accepts giving up their pick this year for what could be a 13th overall next year. I don't buy that the Blue Jackets would make that trade either. GM's aren't into giving up the top pick for nothing until a gamble the next year. Kent Hughes would never do that.

@@JR101AAnd what is that based on? We got actual insiders, multiple actually, who reported BEFORE the draft that Anaheim was dead set on selecting Sennecke, and then they did over Demidov and Lindstrom. They chose Sennecke, ranked 8-9th to 11-12th on most boards, over the #2 and #4 forwards - what makes you think they even thought Levshunov was the best D when they didnt even think Demidov or Lindstrom were the better forwards to draft.

@@bangbangyoureaboolean1324Demidov and Lindstrom would've been gone, next years draft is deep on forwards and Montreal was hell bent on getting a top forward. Why wouldnt they want a reroll at the draft next year, another 1st that we spent on Boisvert and a 2nd? Also if you think we're anywhere but the bottom 5 next year you're clownin. None of our prospects are ready to make the jump except Nazar.

To get a top 5 pick, you have to offer more than draft picks... Beside Bedard/Nazar/Jones, Chicago doesn't any valuable assets yet.

The bottom line is, one short year after drafting Bedard, the organizations only franchise talent, the BrainTrust went into the draft looking to fill roster needs. RHD and large framed forwards can be obtained thru trade, FA, and future/lower round draft picks. With the second overall pick and no. 18, you swing for the fences with players who give you a chance at making the franchise truly special for the next 10 years. Demidov at 2, Eiserman at 18 AND you have the potential up front to come at teams in waves! The defensive core had solid young depth already. By selecting the already physically mature, limited ice vision Levshunov, as just another nice defensive piece, a potential path to greatness in this years draft was lost. And don't even get me started on trading up 2 spots to select Boisvert, a guy they would have been over-drafting at 20. I'm already gonna say it, the sooner KD goes the better.

Rumors are the Hawk's top scouts wanted Levshunov and KD wanted Demidov. I guess we now know the hierarchy's peeking order under KD. A real GM uses the scouting departments imput to help guide HIS OWN decisions.

I don't see any GM actually doing this. In my opinion, the only way Columbus gives up the first for nothing this year is if they are absolutely fleecing Chicago. Maybe for the next 2 years, first round, un protected, with some other picks involved. That's the only way I see something like this happening. Good on Columbus for not accepting this. Think about it this way, if you are a Chicago fan, would you be happy with Chicago giving their 2nd to Columbus, for nothing this year, and for Columbus' unprotected first next year, and a load of second round picks and third rounds picks next year? I would think not. Late firsts and seconds aren't worth very much.

This just shows that KD is not the man for the job. The Hawks will be really bad again next year, in a much deeper talent pool draft. Shows just how impatient and indecisive KD is. Demidov gives you a second genuine franchise player to team with Bedard. Instead, they select a RHD that fits smack dab in the middle of the young, defensemen talent they already have in the system.

@@watchmanonthewall2151 It's hard to believe a rebuilding team would gamble their top 5 pick like that without getting actual value for it.
