Formed in 1952, this stellar rumba group is famous throughout Cuba. They also charmed audiences everywhere in the US on their first, second, and third US tours, in 1992, 1996, and 1998. They were back in August, 1999, in the Spring of 2000, again in 2001, and for the last time in the US, in 2002, after which George Bush blocked them. They are now scheduled to return in April, 2011. Founded in 1952, this Afro Cuban Ensemble is an - true institution - for Afro Rumba music and dance.
These Cuban legends are back on the world stage. This magic Orchestra consists of musicians and dancers from three different generations. Together they preserve the traditions brought to Cuba from Africa, their families are renowned for Afro Cuban Folk music, which you can still find today everywhere in Cuba.

para Kingfuiti : Abakua no viene de Nigeria sino de Camerun y el idioma no es "calabari" es EFOK y EFIK ( los 2 rios ) .

Para Félix: Hola hermano, creo que estas equivocado. No precísamente del Camerún. La región del Calabar es la que contiene la zona del estado Cross River (en la actual Nigeria), por donde pasa un rio homónimo afluente del Niger. Recuerda que los países Africanos son a veces cuadrados, ya que los blancos fueron los que inventaron las fronteras y por razones económicas dividieron a veces culturas similares o la misma cultura (como en el caso de Kinshasa y Brazzaville, donde en ambas orillas del rio se habla el Lingala). Pero Camerun hace frontera con Cross River luego, no podemos descartar que Ngbé (padre de Ekpe que a su vez es el padre de Abakuá) venga también en parte del Camerun. Convencionalmente se considera Osha y Abakua de origen Nigeriano.

They are called "Íremes" and represent spirits (Nkoboro, Mbakara, etc).

Nothing in common with Santería (Osha´s Rule), Different Black Guys (Efik, Ibo, Ibibio, etc). Abakua´s music has been the most influential in the development of Afro-Cuban secular music.

Something about that dance is familiar but weird. It seems like a story but Alien. Are the Yuroba people the Africans that have knowledge of a particular constellation that they "should not" be able to know w/o a having telescopes?
