I thought the same thing when the cop demanded the owner come outside, threatening that the cop would come inside and detain him if he didn’t. That showed the cop knew there was a clear distinction between the owner being detained outside or inside his home and he was trying to get the home owner to give up the protections of his home voluntarily.

Don't forget intimidation, he had his gun holstered until he was uncooperative and then the officer drew his gun and began threatening him with arrest when he has not committed a crime. Also as a locksmith folks please use your deadbolts. Check screw length in door hinges and deadbolt strike plate. 3 1/2 inch screws. Also you can get harden deadbolt strikes to prevent kick and in some cases battery ram attacks. A door wrap too will also help too. Secure your doors make them work for it.

They also violated a residents first amendment rights when they grabbed his camera to stop him from recording in his own home. The Supreme Court has ruled recording the police is a first amendment protected activity. He had the right to record them breaking into his home, and physically stopping him from recording was also a separate civil rights violation.

The man killed in Idaho Falls was Joe Johnson, father of four young children, he was shot by officer Elias Cerdas, who only had to serve 100 hours of re-training. He is still employed with the Idaho Falls police force.
