In an acting class recently a Canon Vixia HF R500 camera recorded my performance onto a memory card, but when I got home and downloaded the memory card, the Mac noted that I did't have the right application, but didn't say what the right app is. Do you know what app that would be?

That depends... If you just need an app to play the video file VLC Media Player is great in that it's simple, and plays almost anything. If you need an app to download... that's tougher. The camera should be putting out normal Quicktime Mp4s, maybe your card isn't formatted right to play nice with Mac? Try playing on a windows machine, if you can borrow one. If that works, then maybe you need to format your card in Fat32 or ExFat going forward. There are lots of tutorials that might help on YT.

I was looking up reviews for this camera because I am upgrading mine for my KZbin channel. I just happened to stumble across it and then I clicked on the main channel logo for more info on Clarion Broadcasting. I was surprised to find out it is being run out of Madison College. I just moved up here to Wisconsin in Mid 2018 so I dont know the area too well so I had to perform a google search to make sure it was the same Madison. I dont want to send a shout out to Madison California or IL. lol I have rebooted my KZbin channel and I am in the process of changing my content for the new year and I stopped using my webcam for the main video feed. I have ordered an R500 for $65 on Ebay. I saw some other reviews but they never take the camera settings off of auto, which is annoying. After watching the reults that you can get in a manual setting, it convinced me to pull the trigger and order this camcorder. I think I will enjoy it. I would say stay tuned for the new video utilizing it, but it will not arrive until February 26th. :P

Good evening. I wanted to ask what type of external lighting product should I get that would fit the Canon Vixia HF R500? Could you please provide me with some options because I couldn't find any. I'm a basketball trainer and I need to be able to record training sessions at night at the court.

Hello. Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you might help inform me on something related to this camera that wasn't in the video? I recently purchase 2 of these (without SD Cards) and plan to get a couple of more. The purpose is not to actually shoot to an SD Card but to route the HDMI out signals through to an 8 channel video switcher that I got to do live broadcasting. The mix of all of my various cameras will be captured and recorded on one final computer. I highly suggest this to anyone who is thinking about doing so because these cameras get a great picture for the price. They can be picked up for much cheaper than GoPros and have options for zooming and easy matching of all the picture setting that GoPros don't have. However, on the 2 that I have, I can not figure out how to set it to the 60p that it claims you can do. On the touch screen where such settings are displayed it seems to be stuck on 30p with a red circle with a line through it and a red SD Card symbol right next to it. When I go into the deep setting to change this the 60p option is greyed out as well. I am wondering if this is because I don't have an SD Card in it and if this will change if/when I put one in it? BUT ALSO: is this a mute point since I am not recording on the camcorder and if am simply going out through the HDMI to an external recorder? Is the picture delivered through the HDMI out gong to be the same either way and is the 30p or 60p something to be set in the final recorder? There are ways of setting most of the HDMI inputs going into my switcher to take 60p cameras and then scaling about 3 of them from 30P to 60p. But I would rather just have all of my in coming cameras sending in 60P to begin with if I can set them that way. Please let me know if you can provide any insight. It would be most appreciated.

Honestly, we don't know why having an SD card in would affect this. Maybe it only gives the option of 60p when it reads a card of a certain speed in the slot, and thus having a slow or no card makes it impossible? We do know that we had a card in the camera at the time of shooting, and were outputting 60p through HDMI. You can see this at 2:58, when we plug the camera into the TV. It has a little symbol saying "60p" and looks visibly smooth, like high frame rate footage. We wish we could be of more help, but ultimately, we're only a college journalism club, and this is about where our knowledge runs out. Good luck!
