The 1st Mephisto waltz is diabolically difficult. To play it flawlessly is virtually impossible. He ripped through it like it was a piece of cake. Amazing.

Morimoto was the true winner of Cliburn Junior 2019... Sad that he was passed up!

I've never cared much for the contestants' nationality, just individual's performance. Watching Shunta Morimot's performance, I felt as if he had changed from a 14-years old boy to mature adult in the blink of an eye when playing music--raw emotion, sincerity, dedication, and musicianship. Will hear more of his performances in the semifinal round I hope.

how in the world did the judges pass over this gifted pianist?
@bokumo70635 жыл бұрын
Earl Wild tells of how he once was judging a competition where these other uptight judges passed over the best pianist because of 'extra motion.' kzbin.info/www/bejne/aabXiXSNm5qNpas Unbelievable! Yet sadly true. To that I say two things: one, the judges should judge by the music, not by their Freudian hangups about the human body. And two, can you imagine telling an opera singer to just stand still and sing? My guess is that Shunta Morimoto is musically inspired by opera. In any event, his performance style is operatic, which I like. I think it is very bold of him. For these judges to hold that against him -- so what? They cannot hold him back.

It was happening the same thing to Lang Lang : they did'nt like thé pianist show his émotion. A non sense. They want robots 👿

@@rocherpr_piano-classic I know being in some competitions that they do not like any personal involvment. You have to stay perfectly technical and academic. Not only this, as you can't juge as mathematics, so there are preferences, all kinds of other influencies. It is very seldom to get a fair jury in the matter of music. This young is a very interesting candidate. He is naturaly musical and imaginative.

I think he was a little nervous ("le trac" in french) because stranger compétition. mephisto valse that he played in 2018 in japan was better, a must ! I hope he always keep the sensitivity and spontaneity of his young age

Yet he was passed over by the judges. What were they thinking? Were they high? Shunta was cheated. Sad.
