I have an 1881s that is a gorgeous morgan. It’s actually one of my favorite coins. And it’s MS63. Run of the mill grade from PCGS. So I cracked it out of the PCGS holder and sent it to ANACS. Came back 63PL Cameo. Whatever the case, this description was much more accurate as far as describing the coin. It is anything but a run of the mill Morgan

I recently went a local show to get some French and US coins graded by ANACS figuring I'd save one way shipping. The rep was very helpful and answered all of my questions. He goes to shows in the area a lot and said he could have the coins shipped to him and he'd call to set up a pick up at whatever show in the area i wanted. Saved me an additional $70 in shipping too.

Two things that I didn't hear you mention that I like about ANACS is they numerically grade details coins so you get an EF45 - Details Cleaned vs just XF-Details. They will also comment on the grade of the obverse or reverse when appropriate so you can get a grade like MS-63 and then a note under that says OBV-DMPL. These two approaches to grading seem like a much better way of doing it than the other graders.

As an error collector, I like ANACS a lot. But for non-error coins, I don't trust them on MS grades. They do seem to be conservative on mid- to low circulated grades. I also think ANACS is somewhat more likely to give straight grades to cleaned coins. This can be expensive for a buyer.

I have an interesting PCGS /ANACS story.I own two 1881 Honduran Centavos. They came from the same collection and are virtually indistinguishable to the naked eye. I sent one in to PCGS a few years ago at it was returned brown MS 65. I recently had a table at a small show in South Carolina show where a ANACS rep was and decided to give ANACS a try and submitted the other 1881 Centavo. I showed the rep the graded version and he agreed they were very similar. I have not received the coin back yet but I'm dying to find out what ANACS grades it.

Anyone into modern variety hunting should love ANACS. I coin roll hunt and get some of my nicer modern (minor) varieties slabbed through ANACS. Who knows, maybe one day my minor DDOs & DDRs will be in a future Cherrypicker's Guide and all I'll have to do is cross them to PCGS for a high end variety. At least this way,they're already autheicated, verified, and better yet, protected.

To add to Ben's wisdom, my experience with ANACS has very good customer service with real humans, low prices for grading services, the oldest grader still in the business, consistently legit grades, and they even put their services on sale sometimes. When it's on sale it's so much cheaper than the competition, if you like the holders, go for it. They're the only holder that you can ID the coin by looking at the holder from the top. So you never have to rifle through your coins again. That's gotta be a big deal to some collectors. Putting really high end coins in their holders though....the perceived value lost can be substantial even if it's a small percentage, so I don't recommend them for that. But coins worth like $200 or less, if you want your coins pro graded it's the jam bo. My first ANACS order was 15 or 16 coins and every coin got a grade so I was happy about that. They hosed me on an 1892 Morgan and said it was an AU58 when it was obviously MS61. Even if they had a headache, it's MS 60 all day come on dude. It's baloney that ANACS isn't as conservative as the big two. It's largely just a talking point, helpfully parroted around the internet by parrots. I've seen the bigwigs really mess up on some grades and ANACS too. To me, whatever coin I have is worth absolutely the same $$ as if it were in a PCGS/NGC holder. I use NGC for higher end stuff and I wish NGC would do crossover from ANACS like PCGS. Please NGC, you know you can do it. If I was President of ANACS our new corporate motto would be "Buy the coin, not the holder." which is to say it doesn't matter what kind of holder it's in. It's the coin that counts, not the glorified plastic. 😃

Surprised to see lots of positive Anacs comments here and I think here’s why and I’ll use myself as an example. So when I first started buying graded coins I noticed Anacs and ICG coins were far cheaper so I bought tons of them maybe 90%. A couple years into it and it was time for me to sell off a bunch of those coins and man I got hammered on the price. Most people didn’t want them and if they did they didn’t want to pay much. If you would have asked me 5 years ago if I was Pro Anacs I would’ve said hell yeah. So if I had to guess I’d say that a vast majority of the people responding on this video are entry level~novice collectors because if this same question were asked in a room of mid level~high end collectors you would get a completely different response. So in a way that sorta answers it Anacs is a good choice for the entry level collector and I just wouldn’t recommend buying coins over $100 in their holders

As dumb is it sounds, I think if ANACS would just change their label - even just the color... the values would go up. As long as they insist upon looking like the K-Mart of grading companies, that's what the market perception will be. If CAC can brand not only stickers, but different TIERS of stickers, maybe ANACS might want to have a look at marketing 101. 🤷♂

ANACS is frowned upon because coin dealers and collectors are lazy and stupid. CAC essentially blackballed them, and collectors would rather trust a con man like Albanese than do their own research and learn how to grade coins themselves. The trend does seem to be reversing, but there are still dealers that won't touch an ANACS coin with a 10 foot pole.
@fatlostmedia13769 ай бұрын
Albanese really is a business man at the end of the day. And Albanese black balling anacs while simultaneously acting friendly is exactly proof that it's a business move.
