Very helpful video. Just a couple of things I think are worth mentioning. The 80GB CECHE01 starts out as backward compatible for PS2, but this model apparently does it through software emulation, which means that updating your software can remove the backwards compatibility. Be sure to test before buying this model. The other 2 models apparently use hardware to run PS2 games, so even if they are updated, they should still play PS2 games OK. Despite the backwards compatibility, not all PS2 games will play on PS3 for various reasons. You should also be able to play most PS1 games on any PS3 (and any PS2 for that matter.)

Why do so many people love spreading the myth of updating BC ps3s. The update myth is not true I have a CECHC02 PS3 and its on the newest firmware and it plays PS2 games

@@PatSmashYT I know nothing about the CECHC02 as it appears to be an Australian model and I am in the USA. However, from what I have read online, you have a 60GB model, the equivalent of the US CECHA01. This US version has hardware that makes it PS2 compatible. Only the 80GB CECHE01 model (in the USA) has the possible backwards compatibility issue.

A neighbor gave me a Sony PS3, think it's the slim version. Got a controller & test game. Hooked it all up, and looks like it works great! I used a monitor that is more for a PC, had speakers hooked up either, so not sure what sounds are playing. Is it worth it to delete the previous owners info on the HDD? Thank you and great detailed how-to video! Have you tried upgrading the RAM? I didn't try this, but can you use the USB ports on the system to connect ones cell phone to tether for Internet service?

I enjoyed your video but my PS3 has the sliding top to load the game. My dogs chewed the cords and I moved it to a different room. I'm trying to figure out the placement of the cords because I had 3 cords coming out of the back. There's the power cord,HDMI out,and AV multi out. I originally had someone else hook everything up. If it's the 3 cables it the AV multi out. This is interchangeable with the hdmi cord as both are used for audio and display. The difference being av is max 480p and hdmi is 1080p. It will have a noticeable affect on picture quality. You don't need both plugged in, it's one or the other. Power is self explanatory.

Can you post a video of how the controller works? I have a PS3, never gamed, and know zilch. Finding info is impossible it seems. Even the game I tried (assasins creed) said use the "pause" button to see an instruction manual which I couldn't figure out. Just getting started is tough.

Hey buddy, need your help.. My mate just gave me his old PS3 as he does not use it any more, and im dying to play it. Hes given me 10 games with it also, however, when ive hooked it all up through HDMI the TV is recognising the PS3 and the playstation sign comes up on the TV, and all the options, but theres no option anywhere on the screen to actually start the game! HELP! the only thing i can think that it could is that when i turned it on it did tell me that i shut it down incorrectly the last time and something might need to be re-configured or something which could take a few hours. could it be this? could you give me some advice?
