Probably impossible to get, but not seeing Giesinger here, breaks my heart a little. And I actually loved the Schneider Helles, maybe more of a love or hate beer?

so great you’re close enough to Germany to get fresh beer (and a wide selection). With only 8 to try, you seemed to be able to keep up. Good times, can’t wait for more videos.

I feel very validated in the love of Tegerz. Every time I find myself in Munich I head straight to the beer fridge and pick-up a 'long neck', as we say in Oz. Thanks for another great video, Johnny!

They are all so close and good. I did the test myself and with friends and the results are very different and close every time. But Augustiner is always the go to beer here in Munich.

Great video, having been to Munich recently the best helles beers I had there were from Paulaner nocherberg their unfiltered, Paulaner Brauhaus unfiltered helles, geisinger urhellung, and tegernseer hell from their brauhaus and Munich brew mafia does a great helles also, but yeah over these more commercially available big six Munich helles be hard to pick over augustiner, but the best of that selection is definitely Tegernseer hell so good choice, cheers for review🍻
@mr.popular11984 сағат бұрын
I've been lucky enough to drink Tegernseer by the lake itself. Absolutely stunning location to have a beer, followed by a ferry ride across the lake and a gondola up to Wallberg.

Fantastic video, Bayreuther Hell and Cheimseer Hell are both worth finding they are right up there with Augustiner and Tegenseer.

Tegensseer helles. Good beer .. it's bavarian. Btw I drin k paulaner only in uk , it's relatively easily accessible for me and not silly priced . In Berlin rothaus from franconia is my beer of choice ... love it ... Spaten and augustiner gives some people gut ache not sure if it's gluten intolerance ..but tegensseer helles from down the road goes down a treat. Augustiner Dunkel in winter months is the db's

@KHomfg19 сағат бұрын
Possibly my least favorite German style (would never go for a Helles over a Pils from the same brewery) but still a really fun episode and great to see that Tegernseer came out on top. Fully agree that this is the best of the southern Bavarian Helles and much better than any of the ones from Munich.
@RoseyBone193215 сағат бұрын
Bummed Hacker-Pschorr isn't producing the helles much anymore. Bought it by the case regularly when I was living in Germany (2017-2024) and wouldn't expect that as it seemed fairly widespread. As fellow bitter loving monster, I grew to deeply love helles in spite of its mild manner. It's all about balance and a delicate balance it is.

I worked in Munich for a year and augustiner ended up being my favourite Munich helles, although not technically from Munich tengerseer was my close second favourite. I ended up drinking ayinger especially because it differed from the traditional 6 Munich helles.

@drsetherz22 сағат бұрын
Paulaner Helles reminds me more of a German Pils or Festbier. Spaten is the quintessential Munich Helles in terms of flavor, IMO. Especially with Schnitzel. Augustiner is such a beautiful beer hall.
@SDDT121 сағат бұрын
I always found Paulaner hells relatively dry and stronger on the lemongrass flavour than other helles which are more malty imo
@TheCraftBeerChannel16 сағат бұрын
Hmmm it does seem to have that festbier malt depth but can't quite back it up with the other flavours
@mymic20817 сағат бұрын
My experience with Bottled Paulaner is if you get it from Tesco it's a bit limp, where as from majestic wine, it's an entirely difference beer, they just must keep it amazingly well. Also I agree with you about ayinger, their hell and their export hell are the two weakest beers in their portfolio, everything else is amazing, the weisse, the dunkle, the dopplebock, all stunning.
@AboutMunich14 сағат бұрын
By the way: Have you ever been to the Forschungsbrauerei in Munich? It serves "Blonder Block" so delicous and strong at the same time. Unfortunately this year will be the last chance to drink it, because they'll close end of the year. #gentrification

Pour them in proper glasses that retain head and protect the beer you "expert"
@TheCraftBeerChannel5 сағат бұрын
Head retention has very little to do with the shape or size of glassware - it's down to the cleanliness. Clearly one of these glasses wasn't as clean as it should have been. The others were fine.

How in the world do you not include Weihenstephan? Odd...
@TheCraftBeerChannel16 сағат бұрын
It's not a PGI Munich helles, nor is it widely available in the UK. when we make these videos we try to ensure roughly similar freshness, which was not possible with that beer.
@jimjewell943817 сағат бұрын
Although it is from Freising and not Munich I'm rather fond of Weihenstephaner Helles. It is regularly available here in Central Arkansas and the price point is great as well. I love the mouth feel and the lemony freshness on the nose and palate. Next to Doppelbock, Helles is my favorite lager style. I would also like to add a note of congratulations on your latest book. I bought a copy and devoured it in one sitting, Along with several glasses of beer from many different brew styles. Cheers!

Pilsen is german not Czech. It wasn't in Czech then .
@TheCraftBeerChannel3 сағат бұрын
This is over simplified. Bohemia was part of the Austrian empire in the 1840s. The people who lived there were predominantly Czech in origin, though there was a large German minority.
@sisi24843 сағат бұрын
@TheCraftBeerChannel your comment was oversimplified , like bratislava etc , Pilsen was largely German . In the Austrian Empire at that time as you've added. Secondly the country side was majority German , due to industrialisation more Czech speakers arrived to the city, The area was German since the medieval times ,Ostsiedlung ... even up until ww2 what's now the Czech rep was about half German , including Slovakia a third German. Pilsen is German invention , especially southern German in nature , Josef Groll was Bavarian .
@TheCraftBeerChannel3 сағат бұрын
@sisi2484 but as we have discussed in other comments, it was Czech funded, using Bohemian and Moravian ingredients, using British technology, most likely learned from an Austrian. Nothing is simple.

Pilsner may be czech, but it was invented by bavarian brewmaster Josef Groll
@TheCraftBeerChannel16 сағат бұрын
Groll may have brewed the first pale lager, but he learned to lightly kiln the malt it from the English. We can all make claims to ownership of these kinds of things
@Mikkogram9 сағат бұрын
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Anton Dreher junior brought the knowledge of lightly kilned malt to Europe. One year after Dreher "invented" the Lager beer, Groll brewed the first bottom fermenting pale lager in Plzen

@Mikkogram true, though in partnership with Gabriel Sedlmyer. But the Austrians played a part here to. International cooperation has always been vital.
