Thanks for supporting the youth, im 16 myself, from the Netherlands living in Rotterdam south, kind of like Tottenham. I've seen multiple of my freinds going into crime. Once came and heard a guy in my, house turned out te be my bro, told him he should talk to someone and get out of that life cuz they made him go to my place, having to go for his bro. He walked away from my place. Two days later i got a call from his mum in tears. He still got stabbed when he went to get a Chinese.he survived but it was one of the scariest experiences i've ever had.

anecdotal evidence doesn't say shit. it it true, that there are other options and many will pursue those, but there is enough social studies about the mechanisms pressuring (young) people into joining a gang. if we really want to break it down to the deepest level, we can start arguing whether there is free will or everything is predetermined, since quantum mechanics and probability give you only a small window to operate on and make "choices" in. try explaining a blind person who has never seen what colour is. if you only ever experienced bad shit and most people you know do crime in one or another way, your perception of the world will be different. the internet and social media, while one would think could help breaking out of this cycle, have only enforced this due to echo chambers and social media platforms overall pushing negativity (cause that's what keeps people engaged the most). the best way to go about this imho is the way kid nerd did in this video. talk about it without glorifying it and address the people that might be stuck in that way showing them there is another way. i have two friends with nearly the same back story, but one of them had a little luck and he is doing okay and never got into crime, the other one had some bad luck, got addicted, lost everything and is now trying to stay alive by any means. he to paranoid and haunted to rely on any help so sadly there is not much i can do, except from still being a friendly person not looking down on him when we meet from time to time. everything further i would potentially risk my own life with no certainty of actually helping him in the end
