I like what he said about electronic music not containing any emotion or purpose. It is sad to see people bag on the electronic music scene when they really don't understand what it's all about. They say it's just random noises and sound, lacks emotion, humanism, that it's garbage. The true meaning of electronic music is to find the rhythm inside the machine, to lose yourself in the sound and express emotion through both chaos and order. Mr. Nicolai expresses this through light patterns as well.

Anybody that says electronic music doesn't have emotion has never been to a rave :D

Judging from what I know about sound; he first started to record sounds that the human ear can't pick up and created a visual representation of sounds never heard that are all around us. He then (I think) scanned a building's architecture and converted it to sound (think sonar). He then took digital errors in sound (google it) and matched the frequencies w/ a piano in the same key only transposed to a lower more pleasant pitch w/ the lowest being made the bass and so forth...

Electronic media as mystical experience. Never before so closer to the axioms from the fabric of the Universe (math) yet so free and creative with it.

Very similar to Ryoji Ikeda. I think they already collaborated, and his nickname is "Alva Noto"...

Represents certain sound waves with lasers or screens. In the end it's a great light show and trippy music :)

Sound actually travels in longitudinal waves not transverse waves. They are only depicted as transverse because it is easier for the masses to understand.

this comment makes me feel so heartbroken. I moved to Berlin around 4 years and a half ago. And it's incredibly true. Sadly I can't be there at the moment, but it's nice to see someone thinking what I was thinking at the time I was thinking it.

This guy chucks constarch into a pan, adds a contact-mic. and then watches the starch dry to a sine-wave... see what "interesting" patterns appear. Whoosh. High-brow installation. So up his own arse. Art colleges, you have so much to answer for.

You're the one "up his own arse" here, and probably incapable to do anything as close to compelling as noto's work.
