The theme about success in the second half of today's episode is so interesting and relatable, worth doing the topic on an entire episode I think! Can tell everyone was very "into it" and authentic when sharing their thoughts about it. Refreshing!

Nice episode whereby you guys went very deep. In my opinon, i find goals to be like stepping stones, whereby after achieving each goal, you will created another one of a higher level to attain, hence the phrase "moving the goal posts". Whereas for purpose, it is more of establishing a wholesome meaning to your existence. We, human beings, are meaning-making creatures, and we cannot fathom the idea that we were actually born to just procreate and sustain the human race, and then die. It is total nonsense, so we come up with stuff like "born with a purpose", "meaning in life", "love of my life", etc. So when someone asks the question, "what is your purpose in life?", I think it is ok to not have one, and just say "I am just here to have my time on this blue piece of rock, that is my purpose." With that being said, it is also good to have goals as well, if you want to lead a fulfilling and well-experienced life.

Well all I can say is, when I found out squid games was loosely based on something that actually happened in Korean history, I was shooketh 😱😱. So yeap I'm eager to know how season 2 pans out.

“Oscar Wilde said that if you know what you want to be, then you inevitably become it - that is your punishment, but if you never know, then you can be anything. There is a truth to that. We are not nouns, we are verbs. I am not a thing - an actor, a writer - I am a person who does things - I write, I act - and I never know what I am going to do next. I think you can be imprisoned if you think of yourself as a noun.” ― Stephen Fry There's another local podcast (go off the record) that did an episode on purpose and the idea of it surfacing as seasons - like what you mentioned (:

Apparently everyone don't know what's happening to netflix. Basically netflix wants to make another plan that is cheaper but includes ads. So premium users are not effected.

for me the purpose of my existence is to live a life of submission, worshiping God and preparing for the Hereafter, which is the ultimate and final destination and also the real life and enjoyment for the believers. i am just a traveller in this passing world and hence if i do well in this world which is "my test for the hereafter" then the reward wld be paradise ..

Squid game was boring to me. The whole concept is fine but did not like the part where they allow participants to kill each other. The final game was just a stab fest and the squid game had absolutely no point. It became a physical survival fight. Also, it didnt make sense for people to team up if they all know only one can survive at the end.

27:30 - 27:50 This part ties in with the FIRE movement by The Woke Salaryman. FIRE is a guide (FI) and a potential trap (RE). Many sacrifice way too much for RE while attaining FI, and their younger self idealize FIRE as being a rich man in the 40s sipping tea in Ritz Carlton Hotel? and enjoying life without really working. However, by pushing themselves so hard in their 20s they are accustomed to working and stopping to relax, take long breaks now (in their 40s) feels so awkward.
@faizsabudin8520
@faizsabudin8520 2 жыл бұрын
and that's why Wei Choon replaced RE with MI (Make Impact) which dives deeper into meaning and purpose after one achieves financial independence. if you dig deeper into the FIRE community, most that achieved FI are exploring a thousand and one ways to live their remaining years purposefully be it voluntary work, educating the masses, backpacking around the world (to discover true purpose), growing their own farms overseas (a simple life), living with the nomads etc.. and they can all do these without worrying about money to survive. I think they should make an episode about IKIGAI next :D
@ksy6177
@ksy6177 2 жыл бұрын
@@faizsabudin8520 actually curious, if everyone reached FI, will the standard of living rise equally to remove all the benefits of FI? Everyone can now afford more expensive goods so price of goods rise till not everyone can afford as much due to demand. And since there is limited high paying jobs, the other way to reach FI is through investments. And is investing in the market a zero sum game?
@faizsabudin8520
@faizsabudin8520 2 жыл бұрын
@@ksy6177 i think it depends on individual's variation of FI. there's lean/barista/coast/fat FIRE where each caters to different individual's goals/purpose so i think it's important to question their whys. can afford does not mean need to spend though, feels that your point is targeting the consumerism part, sounds like lifestyle inflation to me. and yes I agree investing is a zero sum game but there are winners and losers everywhere in life too, but u can choose to be the winner that gives a part of their winnings back to society (doesn't have to be monetary, it can be free knowledge through youtube videos for eg, or even inspire others to do the same). I believe most that reached FI early are more than capable to do extraordinary things
