Alaska resident for 15 years here. I second the thought of keeping heavy blanket, water and food in the car "just in case". Peanut butter is cheap and high in calories. Watch out for the temps we are experiencing this week. The snow will melt, then refreeze overnight leading to AM "black ice" on the roads. Whales have gone south for the season, but bears and moose can be seen at the Alaska Conservation Center just outside of Girdwood/Whittier. Cheers

Just a FYI. If you can hear your tires you are not on ice. When you don’t hear your tires that’s ice. Silence is deadly when driving in winter conditions.

Lifelong Michigan resident here, my best advice is to drive like you have an egg under both petals. Very gingerly and slow. Don’t worry about the people behind you who want to drive fast, just drive at a speed that you’re comfortable with.

except there are stretches in alaska where if you're holding up 5 cars, you must pull over or speed up. It's not a huge problem most of the year but in the summers it's quite common to be stuck behind a caravan of motorhomes with nervous drivers and they all refuse to get out of the way. unfortunately, there isn't enough law enforcement to police all the roads.
@kirlygirl786322 күн бұрын
If you can find a large open parking lot, practice making donuts/tight circles with the car, so you get used to the feel of slipping around and how to get out of it. On ice, slow down by taking your foot off the gas as much as possible since braking like normal is a very bad idea. Leave LOTS of room between cars. Only use brakes very sparingly. If no ABS, very gently tap the brakes if needed. Curves/Turns: Do all the slowing down you can BEFORE you get to a turn or curve, then gently apply a little gas as you're moving through the turn/curve to avoid/minimize slipping. Best wishes Adam!

It’s the Wal-mart outfit, brilliant…too tight, a dickie with a thin light colored sweater, polyester pants and the white shoes! My uncle back in 60’s was snazzy dresser, he wore polyester and had the white dress shoes!!! He would bring clothes he couldn’t use or wear any more to my Papaw who was known store everything, including the white dress shoes in their box stored away. Seen them with my own eyes. Dickie under a tight sweater that you could see makes me laugh every time I see it. Also had plenty of polyester clothes stored. The blue leisure suit - incredible! Just loved cousin Eddie

At the Hotel Captain Cook, at the shopping mall, at the grocery store. We stopped at McDonald's and then left our drinks in the car when we went into the mall. When we returned our drinks were all frozen solid. I remember having to "plug" the car into an electrical outlet everywhere we parked. December.

Really enjoying this series- As an Ontario Canada resident I can relate to winter driving. It's been super warm here for November ( 18-20 degrees ) but I know the snow is coming and I dread it every year! Id take warm Orlando with your hard grass over the slush and ice any day! Oh, in your other video you asked what the little poles in the snow were- they are to mark the curb so the plow doesn't drive on the grass. If you are sliding sideways turn your wheel in the direction the back of your car is going and take your foot off the accelerator. Gently pump the breaks if you can't slow down. Make sure to leave lots of space between you and the car in front and put your 4 ways on in bad visibility. Safe travels Adam can't wait for the next video!
