My logic was always you don’t throw it until you’re out of timeouts, especially considering it was 2nd and goal from the 1 yard line, and since the Seahawks still had one timeout still, there is no doubt they should have run it on 2nd down. Then if you have 3rd down after calling your final timeout, you obviously have to pass, but can run on 4th down if you want since it’s obviously your last chance to score and the clock stops no matter what since the result of the play is either a touchdown or turnover. I understand Al’s logic here that if you’re going to pass, don’t do it over the middle, but to me, there is no reason to pass at all here. If I’m on the 1 yard line, less than 30 seconds left in a Super Bowl, you need a touchdown to win, and 2014 Marshawn Lynch is my running back, I’m running that ball every time as long as I still have at least one timeout, which the Seahawks still had at the time. It was quite possibly the dumbest play call of all-time.

Second and goal from the one with 25 seconds left and one time out. A quick single read high percentage slant pass makes sense. Executed properly it should work. Execute it properly it’s almost impossible to be intercept. But Wilson did not place the ball properly The receiver did not run the route properly and Butler played it perfectly. If you run it and get stopped you have to rush and you likely only get 2 tries. If you throw and don’t make it you don’t have to rush and you can easily have 3 tries. It’s ridiculous to say Lynch would definitely score. In fact the next time he was in that situation he was stopped.

You have to throw at least once because there wasn’t time on the clock and they only had 1 timeout. 2nd down was as good a time as any. Throwing over the middle was probably unnecessarily dangerous since the ball can get batted up into the air. Obviously odds change situationally, but to give a general idea Wilson throws a pick about 1.8% of pass attempts and Marshawn Lynch fumbled about 1.1% of his carries over his career.

Im a Brady guy so i was happy. But its different if you dont have beast. But you did. Now i agree that i can see a pass but not a inside pass like that. But i still think Butler deserves alot of credit for that play. He gives up the almost impossible catch 2 plays before. Probably felt he cost his team. Doesnt even know he was supposed to be on the play. Until the staff yelled Butler your up. And he remembered practicing that exact play. He jams the route and makes the greatest defensive play in superbowl history imo. But pete imo tried to beat Bill by be risky like Bill is. And thats was the worst thing to do when you have beast.
