Julius Erving is the COAT, Classiest Of All Time and is on my all-time starting five. If you watched him play back in the day you know how his intangibles affected and elevated the game well beyond the great stat lines. If MJ was The Beatles, Dr J was Elvis---he invented rock and roll in the first place.

It's sooo cool to see the Doc alive and doing well, I had the pleasure to meet him once in 1995, he signed a basketball for me, standing outside of a hotel in Palm Springs, CA.

Doc doesn't get the credit he deserves. He revolutionized the game. When he retired, it was widely acknowledged that he was #3 on the all-time scoring list, under only Kareem and Wilt. There was a time, after the merger, when the NBA combined ABA and NBA stats. They stopped doing that and as a result have disrespected the legacy of so many great players. The ABA was a more dynamic and exciting league. They revolutionized basketball culture. The contributions the ABA made to basketball were adopted by the NBA and are still impactful today. In the 70's NBA players were jumping ship to go to the ABA, while top college recruits were choosing the ABA over the NBA. From 1971 to 1976, both leagues were in major financial trouble. As they negotiated the terms of a possible merger (which didn't happen until 1976), they held inter-league scrimmages from 1971-76. The stars of the ABA played the stars of the NBA every year. Out of 155 games played, the ABA won 79 games and the NBA won 76. That tells you how good the ABA was. It wasn't an amateur league. ABA players not only contributed to the NBA, but in many ways dominated the NBA after the merger.

Went to my first professional game in 1973 at the Norfolk Scope when a young Dr.J was paired with a younger Iceman. Julius was always my and pretty much every young kid from that time period favorite player. As great a player as he was,he was an even greater person. Wow,where has the time gone? Thanks Doc!

Met Dr. J at a Salvation Army event here in Memphis 5-6 years ago. He took a picture with me and said he'd be back after he finished talking to the people he came to see and then he came back and took pictures with me and my friends. He was so nice!

Top class guy. Honest, modest, articulate and a diplomat. Careful not to aggravate or insult anyone and yet truthfull. The DOCTOR. Fantastic in his prime and a stabilizing influence in the latter part of his career. I was in awe with his moves during the 70's amd I respect him today...

I grew up in Conn and followed Julius Erving when he played for UMass. Later in life relocated to Philly (1982) and immediately bought Sixers season tickets. Had the wonderful good fortune of watching Dr J many, many times- matchups with Bird were basketball nirvana. The Spectrum exploding "Julius Errrvinng" A class act for Sixers and City. My all time sports hero! When I was about 30 he came to a sporting goods store in Vancouver to sign. I waited in line for hours with his rookie card to get signed. When I was 4 back in line, they shut it down & he left. Broke my heart.

It was his last season in pro basketball, I live in Tucson. I went to the Mad House on McDowell and watched the most innovative player ever. They gave Julius gold golf clubs at halftime. Long live the doctor of basketball and a wonderful human being!

Dr.J is so funny, myself growing up in the bayarea,California born In 1985 I'm not sure how I came to know who Dr.J is I admired the #Converse show endorsement attached to his name and it reminded me of MichealJordan and the Chicago bulls and SpaceJam jprdan tennis shoes in the 90's which were really popular and also a clothing store at my local mall called Dr.Js like the online clothing store😊😊😊 but it's awesome to watch sports and economy work together nicknames and brands🏀🏀🏀🏀

@DanPatrick I think the pentacle of understanding Julius from a communicative point of view was his style that's showed vicariously and his investments into apparel which is awesome in my opinion and calling him ConnieHawkins I think thats awesome it makes me emotional because it's like meeting his eternal self mentally but the professor and TheDoctor having the ability to write with both of his hands is really awesome with how he handles "ball" lol cool guy! ❤💋🥂 I personally grew up with astair concerning Dr.Jnba as MichealJordan that reminded me however different obviously but JesusChrist as TheLord and so when the film HeGotGame came out and DenzelWashington played Dr.Jnba from a cap point of view and his astair silver fox and Rick Fox showing up as DennisHaysbert for SpainNBA and Love&Basketball and EvesBayou and it was difficult because I was born this stone in 1985 respectively. People were talking to me about Charles Barkley calling him Sir and I was interested obviously and then there were troops who had built a coalition around me in EastPaloAlto,California cornering Dr.J and DennisHaysbert bayarea,California MichealJordan and my camp style because I'm cool like that and Nike sports etc. Tennis swim modeling and they were calling themselves "Aunt Connie" young women's club and it bothered Me actually because I didn't understand at the time I was about 9 years old and into my present adult years honestly. It's odd it fell under TheSavageBrothers WomderYears and BoyMeetsWorld from BigGirlsDontCry a family film based on astrology and house placements and also tty/ttd forresting and children and how that looks actually and how the adlib somewhat like not acknowledging Dr.J as ConnieHawkins his 3rd person speech his memory is spot on he's cool hair and hand Luke and it's funny in determining things from a hermit point of view how something like Obama happened so fast and DenzelWashington for the narration the voices of men that are accomplished a man actually humble that's alot but yes good show!
