I second that. "Animosity" is also for me the way better song with a lot of catchiness and surprises in. Unfortunately there is no good footage of a LIVE performance out on YT at the moment, which can prove our (subjective) statement. The official video is an Anime "only", but of highest artistic creativity (highly recommended to watch!) and the copy from their Daytona Festival performance is of poor sound quality - not only from the recording. The latter is not fun to "listen" but only to "watch" Dany, Pau and Little Geenie acting on a bigger stage. So probably, David, you should wait until we see better LIVE footage of "Animosity" here on YT from their upcoming US Tour starting in January. Probably you will attend to one of their shows, but if so, you cannot state with good conscience any longer, not to know or to remember this song. YOU WILL, because it is soo outstanding......... And as "Disciple" is a 9.3, how will you give justice to "Animosity" then?

24:29 - I absolutely agree with you on that!! I suffered through 13 years of a drummer that couldn't keep time.😡 Only because we're in a small town and there was *NOBODY* else we could call on to do it.🙄 Pau's drumming is like clockwork and she always keeps it fresh with new fills and techniques! That said, this is also currently my favorite from them! This is sort of a natural progression from XXI Century Blood, and the whole production is just off the charts! They once again had a perfect location for shooting this (the Blast Furnace Museum in Monterrey), and included a bunch of people from The Warning Army for 'the masses'. Gotta love 'em for that!!😁 Great review David, and definitely worthy of that 9.3 rating!😍 🤘😎🤘

Nice review, with the traditional DH attention to detail (I'm an engineer, so "attention to detail" is a good thing). A few things: * Interesting that this is now your second favorite to XXICB, as the themes are very similar. I don't have the exact words Pau used in front of me, but she described it as being about the hate spreading in social media and how it so easily lets people stay in their bubbles. It's almost a follow-on to XXICB in that regard. * The split vocal lead is such a staple of their sound, isn't it? A big strength of theirs relative to most other bands. * Dany's vocal range and power really jumped out at me the first time I heard Choke, and the difference is night and day compared to QoTMS and before. Not that her vocals were weak, just that her work on Mayday jumps her way up into real rock diva status. And Pau showed some pretty interesting vocal chops herself, particularly in the breakdown. * I cannot believe that you missed Ale's "2, 3, GO!" lead line. You watch your ass! * Since you're Ale Battalion, I'll tell you that you are going to like Animosity and Z.

You've been waiting hehehe, but it's never too late to listen to your analysis ;) thank you very much ;) I agree with what you said about doing the three choruses with variations, as for the way the song ends... I think it's very brave of them, but after listening to it a few times and looking at the lyrics I realised that it makes all the sense in the world. The phrase he says the previous times is "You shall remain Inside your space" but on this last occasion the phrase is "You shall remain Inside your space of ignorance" and it's just when he says "Ignorance" where it cuts out all at once. For me it's like giving us a slap in the face so that we come out of our ostracism and start to think and reason for ourselves instead of believing everything we read on social networks. The three of them keep proving that they haven't got to where they are for free, they have done it through hard work as you have said, even if many people find it hard to recognise ;) By the way, the one who sings the second verse really is Pau ;) Greetings from Spain ;) (Translated automatically by software)

Great Reaction David! I am also torn between this and Evolve as my favorite from the Mayday EP. But, all the rest are a very close second. LOL.. As for the vocals in the second verse. It is indeed Pau singing the second verse. As a matter of fact, you can watch her do it live at the Welcome to Rockville Festival that they just played at Daytona Speedway. Also, Ale's bass playing and bass parts on this new EP are just amazing. She is a bigger part of the song structure now and is more forward in the mix. This allows Dany to do more lead riffs instead of rhythm guitar to make the songs more interesting. Just great songwriting all the way around. Future Legends!

"You shall remain inside your space of (ignorance)" And they leave you with the "obeying" crowd of (ignorant) Disciples. They are the "Swimming Fishes that will drown" And if you become a Disciple, you will too. Genius.... By the way, that was ABSOLUTELY Pau singing the second verse. They're masters at writing a two or three second part that grabs your attention. In this song the music stops and Pau sings "disciple in the making" in "when I'm alone," at the end of the first chorus Dany sings "When I'm Alone," without instrumentation but after the end of the second chorus she doesn't sing the words and it leaves the listener wanting it. Then near the end of the song Dany sings it and the listener eats it like candy

I agree with you almost 100% David. This is by far my favorite song on the Mayday EP and right there with 21st Century Blood in my top 5 only because of my introduction to The Warning being Servive, Escape The Mind, and Free Falling. Those 3 songs mean more to me because of what I was going through at the time, with the amputation of my leg. Those 5 songs are great and on any given day the order flip flops around with my mood like the Oklahoma weather. I was surprised that you didn't say anything on Ale's 2, 3, GO!! line. Oh Ale just turned 17 on the 13th of December, Dany will be 22 on the 30th of January and, Pau will be 20 on the 5th of February. So 16, 19, and 21 when this was recorded.

One thing the warnign is is extremely honest. If you see them singing in a music video, then they were singing in the song at that point. Pau does sing the second verse lead. She can sound kind of like Dany at times if she chooses to... it's bizarre. And if you ever get to hear Ale sing lead with a microphone that is actually loud enough (live engineers often used to keep her vocal mic too quiet in live concerts I guess because of some rule about backup vocalists, or because she simply sings less loudly than her sisters).... but Ale sounds kind of like Dany but with a richer tone and less edge.

👏 Thanks David Good info and great analysis as usual. Few reactors come even close to what you can discern with your experienced ear. I'm sure you will have a fun evening meeting DPA and many of us at the Constellation room in Santa Ana or the Troubadour in LA.

The ending in the 80's was known as the DJ killer as they had no warning that the song was about to end. They would then get caught with dead air, as they were away from the mic queeing up something or talking to a producer etc. I love it and TW.

Great reaction DH!!! It's really too bad these record companies make it hard for you reactors to do your thing...I mean really!...they are so short-sighted about these videos...can't they remember in the '50s? When they were all involved in the "payola" scandal? They all got in trouble because they were willing to travel the country, paying radio stations so they would pay their artists' music to get them on the air...now 60yrs later they're complaining when literally hundreds of people are doing these reactions, singing their praises, and getting their music out to the public for free??!! Instead of sitting back and just saying "Thank you", they cry foul and throw up a block!!! Makes no sense! (ok...rant over)

Couldn't possibly agree more. By the way, that practice is still happening with record companies paying radio stations....they just do it covertly now.

That abrupt ending I used to find annoying, now I realize, it's purposeful to make you want to play the song over again lol. Sneaky!

The ending of this reminds me of the ending of Savoy Brown's 'Hellbound Train'.

Great to see you again David Heretic! Superb breakdown/analysis. You are spot on in every detail except; it is actually Pau's voice on the 2nd verse that begins at the 10:35 mark in your uploaded video. This sounds like this is a calling to break free from our addictive reliance on information presented on screens that feed us whatever the algorithms decide for us to consume. (update) From The Warning's drummer Paulina's 10-9-21 Instagram LIVE Pau Day stream- "Disciple is a song about social media... right?... and how opinions are bought in social media and are fed to us in a way that we don't even know... and how by like feeding ignorance and cultivating hate... like people gain a lot of power and money... so, that's what Disciple is about." Thank you so much for all your support. 🗣 See you at The Troubadour! 👋🤠
