I rarely comment on any social media due to possible toxic reactions. The Nightwish Army, however, is by far the most mature group of people spanning the globe. They are open and welcoming to differences in opinion without suppression. Your video popped into my feed shortly after the release. I watched it in its entirety 5-6 within the first 3 months of its debut. Your experience, raw honesty, and willingness to be free with your opinions reflect the Nightwish Army so well. I wanted to finally 'speak' on your channel about how much I enjoy your entire catalog. Thank you for starting with a clear purpose and staying true to it. This is a staple of my KZbin viewing time. I wish I could better articulate how you have positively affected my life as I deal with chronic illness. On my good and bad days, your channel gives me a time of pure happiness even if I disagree with or dislike the music. Your wording and effect do not make me feel like I 'should' agree to be a real music fan. Much love and appreciation. P.s. I played piano, violin, clarinet, and bass before the onset of the mobility limitations. I listened to classical through to metal and K-pop. I enjoy music that is well-created or emotionally invoking. Regardless of my overall opinion of the genre. Finding someone who has a similar apprection of the art is moving and strengthening.

Hello David Heretic ! Nightwish fans here, your musical quest summoned us. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory): "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfOiqqFf7-ChLc "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvCaIJ5eLafjtU "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4nMZaFuma-WfJo "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLYZoSgnsl7jck "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmoZH9tnMx_g68 "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbImqeaYqp0bKs "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) kzbin.info/www/bejne/haeydWmumsijnpY "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ_UlnxuZZyNors "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/poezhYh7jJaDe68 "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKCbn5aBlJqesMU "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmopnSGjtKSi8k "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKOtp36Qg6qbbck "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooXZipmClpmKos0 "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXKXZaeglrVopJI "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/inOylZqun8djoa8 "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmOZo5Ksdr6EZrM "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-VZGyGl9aVoNE "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqfWl6p3hceKjsU And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqbaimSaYrB8qdU Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) @@Agus95Britos Dimash surprised me the first time I lesson. After that it was always more of the same. He has an amazing vocal instrument, but doesn't give me even a slightly taste of emotions compared to Floor. Floor has mastered her vocal instrument, but above all, is an amazing story teller. She knows when to be retracted and when to explode in all her majestic glory. It's said that humans can't have proof of the divine in order to have faith and not simply knowing, but when Floor sings I almost feel a touch of the divine. You can't explain it, just feel it.

@@hamohamo8270 so what you are basically saying is that you don't care about Dimash actually having more range and control even when he is a dude.. but since you prefer the metal/folk music context around Floor then she has a better vocal ability? Dimash is way beyond Floor in terms of vocal ability. The thing is, he just does not make metal/folk. On the other hand, I've seen already all the "mainstream songs" of Floor's singing with Nightwish, and she also basically does the same everytime, it's repetitive as well. I understand you might feel enchanted by her personality and act, but in terms of pure vocal skill, Dimash is way more developed and trained.

At about 49 minutes when you started talking about the drummer it made me recall an interview with him from a few years back. When you see him lean forward, he is very intense and precise and really getting into it. But, also, if you look closely at him he seems to be talking. You would think he may be singing along...but in this interview he said he is talking to himself, encouraging himself...he even said he will often say things like "OK Jukka (his name)...dont f*** this up!" I was fortunate to attend a show here in the U.S. when Jukka was still playing with the band. We (my wife and I) were in the front (Stage Right - directly in front of the keyboards) and had a clear view of the drum kit. I swear I can barely remember much else than his performance...my wife fell in love and he was all she could talk about after the show (and even nine years later). Oh and dag nabbit, knowing what was about to come in those final moments I was already tearing up even after hearing this song countless times, and also knowing it would have the same effect on you...and it did! I've been subscribed to your channel for a while now. I mostly watch the Springsteen, U2, and Billie Eilish reactions. But when I saw this reaction had 100,000 views, I thought I should give it a go. I've heard a few Nightwish songs thanks to friends of mine in college, but I'm generally not a regular listener of metal. I can appreciate the technical aspects as a musician myself, but its not something I go out of my way to listen to a lot of the time. At 55 minutes, I was skeptical whether I'd make it through the whole thing. But your genuinely surprised reaction, plus your analysis and breaking down of the technical aspects of the music, made this one of your most entertaining reactions I've seen. Not just from you, but from anyone. I hadn't heard the song, but when the lead singer hit that final note, my jaw DROPPED. I might have to seek out more of their music myself! A+ reaction, my friend! Keep it up :)

I've been around for a long time, been a hard core metal head all my life. Doesn't get much better than Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath,....or so I thought. Seen many great athletes, heard many great musicians/singers. But I've always said that stars shine only in the nightly heavens. Floor Jansen has proven me wrong! Since watching this video for the first time about a year ago I've been on an emotional roller coaster. She makes me feel every word she sings, captivates, hypnotizes, and leaves me dry eyed and in awe. She is a living legend. It's not just her that leaves me amazed though. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and the main song writer is a modern day Mozart and Leonardo Da Vinci put into one. And the rest of the bandmembers are phenomenal as well. Wait until you hear the bass player Marko Hietala harmonize with Floor. Your roller coaster has just begun. I don't think you are prepared for what's coming. Keep a box of tissues nearby....

Iron Maiden, Dio, and Sabbath? If I had to compare them, or I'd say "Next Generation" them, I'd put LoveBites in for Maiden (and half of the big 4: Slayer and Anthrax without the screaming in key from Tom Araya), Marko Hietala (his solo work) for Dio (he models his singing after Dio and sounds damn near close), and Nightwish in for Sabbath. Sabbath was heavy, but all about feel, which is what Nightwish brings.. so you're in good company!

Knowing how critical (in a fair sense) you are, I didn't expect you to be so blown away but it was definitely fun to see. Everyone and their grandma has reacted to this, but my favourite reactions are always the ones who come from people who actually know music. Because they can appreciate how truly spectacular this band is. So yes, Tuomas Holopainen is one of the greatest composers of our time. Not only is he a literal musical genius who, much like Mozart, hears entire symphonies in his head and then executes them just like that, but has an almost mystical power of channeling incredible amounts of emotion into his music. One would have to emotionally dead to not get hit in the feels by Nightwish -- and empath types are sure to be hit *hard* and be extra drawn to it. The loyalty and passion of the "Nightwish Army"? No further explanation needed. He is very inspired by film composers, Hans Zimmer in particular (which is very audible sometimes) -- and Zimmer appreciates him right back. As others have mentioned, he has sometimes said he doesn't want his work to be dictated by anyone else's vision which is why he has opted not to make actual filmscores -- but he recently said he would be very open to the idea of scoring the next Elder Scrolls game. 😁 I can't wait to see your journey of discovery with this band. You've only scratched the surface, there's still plenty out there to move you, make you laugh incredulously and render you speechless and teary-eyed.

Oh dear oh dear....I see a lot of tears and emotions coming in the near future as you react to more NW songs (and I am 100% sure you will do lol!!). What a great and spot on reaction!!! New sub here! Floor Jansen (pron YAn-sen) and the keyboardplayer, and fouder of NW, are both empaths themselves so prepare yourself. And the tears and goosebumps are called "Floorgasmes"! And she doesn't headbang..she does serious windmills (as she is Dutch lol!). This concert was in August 2013. 10 month before NW was in the US and halfway their worldtour when they fired their (2nd) singer and asked Floor (they knew her when she toured with her former band After Forever) if she could fill the gap. She said yes and had 48 hrs to learn the setlist. "Ghost Love Score" wasn't on that list but she knew and loved the song so it became a part of that list. Most people in this audience didn't know Floor so it was a big challenge but they embraced her immideately. In September 2013 she became, together with Troy Donockly, ( who is the 6th bandmember)a full member of the band. Floor is married to Hannes van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish metalband Sabaton. Greetings from the Netherlands

So, it's been an interesting week. It started with me watching the DH family 'unboxing' the gift of Nightwish tickets. Having never heard or seen any of their music, my next stop was this reaction. I was mesmerized, which is apparently a common reaction. In the following days, I'm probably up to 10 hours of video watching, including two times through the 2013 Wacken show. To say the least, I get why there's such a passionate army of you out there and the band deserves the following. Now, I'm not qualified to weigh in on the amazing music and their technical performance, but as 66 year-old concert goer I will say this to anyone who is in a band: Only good things can come from looking out to your audience and smiling. Everyone on the Nightwish stage is doing that and, as a result, tens of thousands a night are completely engaged and feel like they're in the front row. It's an amazing thing to hear and watch.

And I watch practically all of the GLS reactions these days, as even after listening to this particular song and this particular performance many times, I still enjoy the hell out of it. Although you may want to rewatch it with the original tempo which is just a bit faster. Too short? No problem! "The Greatest Show on Earth" is about twice the length. And you will hear Marko, the bass player with the cool beard, sing as well, in tandem with Floor Jansen (who does her usual stuff, from high-pitched operatic to gut-rippling almost growls). Go either with the Wembley version which has a guest star appearance at the end or the Tampere version - both are great. You mention the keyboardist also being active on stage and this reminds me of yet another favourite performance of mine, by Epica - "Consign to Oblivion", live at the Zenith. There, it's just the drummer that sits in one place and vocally and musically you will also get a plentiful package, with a female vocalist of a cool range and a growling guitarist. Plus complex time signatures. Plus cool basswork and intense drums. And maybe, just maybe, you want to combine the best of the two bands and listen to "Sancta Terra" bo Epica featuring Floor Jansen and a whole orchestra and choir at the back behind the band? There are many possibilities to stay in awe after you have watched a video...

I discovered Nightwish in early 2020 just when the pandemic lockdown started and I came across a reaction video to Ghost Love Score. I had never seen any reaction videos before and man.... I think I watched that video and the original like ten times that day and I was DRAINED afterwards, tears, snot emotions. All of it... I never really listened to metal before, sure a few Metallica songs are unavoidable but this was something else... I discovered a small metalhead in myself but with a picky palet. Now Nightwish, Sabaton, Unleash the Archers, Beast in Black, Amaranthe, Battle Beast, Delain, Hammerfall, Evergrey and more bands are on my daily playlists. The key for me is discernable lyrics, if I cant hear what is song or the story of the song then I quickly loose interest. I like your style and that you do what suits you not what is good for the YT algorithm.

Another music professional recently produced a video on "Ghost Love Score" where he tracked the key changes in the way you tracked the time signatures. He had heard the song before so it wasn't a reaction video, rather a technical analysis. He found that Tuomas had used five different keys and had changed keys 16 times in the song. That has to be some sort of record for a contemporary piece of music.

By far the best reaction and breakdown of this I’ve seen in months! One of my absolute favorites! I can not wait for you to fall further into their rabbit hole! There is so much more no one song will sound the same but there is something for everyone!

I'm from Finland and Nightwish has mostly always been listening to the car radio, when it happens to come. A week ago I came across Nightwis reactions on KZbin and I was completely hooked. These analyzes take this ihn to a new level. I haven't cried in over 10 years. I've been crying for a week now. thanks for this analysis and experience

Great reaction, appreciate the tears. That's the very same feeling I got when listening to this song for the first time! Heck, it even brings tears to me after tens, maybe hundreds of times. Just found your reaction video David! I guess you've been told a thousand times but here goes: The soul behind the band is the keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, the composer. He's stated many times over the years that his passion is to create cinematic and scorelike music. You should definately check his solo project, Music inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge. Also the singing goddess is Floor Jansen! I'm telling you, Tuomas Holopainen is a genius!

Great reactionalysis DH! Don't even worry about a letdown, all their tracks on the same quality level. New sub.

Just for your reference, Marko's an exclusive Warwick artist, and the bass he's using is a Warwick Buzzard. On other occasions he uses a Warwick Vampyre, and then there's "The Beast", which is a double-neck Warwick bass + Framus guitar combo.
@fonsecorona3 жыл бұрын
If you wanna see him using that double neck, by the way, you might wanna watch their video on their rendition of Elvenjig & Elvenpath live in Bogotá Colombia...That was an interesting performance of him with Troy Donocley, a later addition to the band...

Glad you loved the song! Totally awesome to hear my name on a KZbin video! Ya not many songs can illicit an emotional response from me that this song does! We were tearing up together!

Thank you Nightwish and thank you David. Everything about your reaction video is spot on! You back the video up after making a comment. You give THE BEST music descriptions including time signatures and comments on each musician. Please never feel that you have to apologise for emotion, great music should always invoke great emotion. I have listened to Ghost Love Score countless times and I am moved to tears every time. Thank you David for your wonderful critique, kind regards Mick.

I’ve watched a lot of vocal coaches react to her voice. It’s awesome hearing your analysis of the composition of instruments and gave great details I never caught before. Cheers bro!

You know your stuff, you earned a sub! Excellent reaction, you know out of this world quality when you hear it ... and you know WHY it's world class. Loved the look on your face when you first heard Floor - we've all had the same look. The thing about Nightwish is that they are not a band, they are a family. Each player sacrifices the "amazing" (of which they are far more than capable) to be a part of the exceptional genius that Tuomas composes. The respect they have for each other is easily visible at the end of The Greatest Show On Earth - Tempere show when they take final bows. Pure love and respect for each other. I've been around long enough to have a head full of white hair and I've never seen anything on the level of Nightwish in consistent quality of composition and execution. Welcome to the new musical world - there's an army of us who've been waiting for you.

Great reaction, loved it. After the interlude that's 82k+ fans that she is directing!! Her stage presence if amazing and after only 9 months with the band though not yet a permanent member. Tuomas, keyboardist, writes and arranges most of the music. He's our Metal Mozart. At the time of this concert the band had no weaknesses; total package and tight as hell. By the way, on top of all her great talents, she is empathize. The band's song catalog is over 120, so your journey with the NW community is just beginning with an amazing variety of musical adventures. New subscribers from high desert of southern Arizona. Stay safe.

David, you did absolutely great work with this. So far I haven't seen any reaction (more an analysis in this case) with such deep knowledge and understanding of musical elements, including time signatures, vocal styles and different instruments. Thoroughly great musicianship from your part as well, sir. It was also nice to see someone get emotional with music because that easily happens to me as well. Thank you!

FEELIN' YOU Lynx!!! One of the main reasons I started this channel. I wanted to do something different, and not just sit there, make faces, and say "That's fire yo". I wanted to give genuine honest reactions, with intelligent and informed reviews and opinions. A lot of people might not like what I might say about their favorite song/band....but I can promise you they'll never be able to call me a liar.

She is one of the most versatile singers I have heard, her singing range goes from Metal to Pop to Jazz to Mainstream music styles. She is able to growl-deep growl/sing down to (A1) C2 and sing high operatic notes up to F6 (G6).

Thank you for this one David. One of my best spent hours. You got Floored immediately and at 36:20 one of the strongest Floorgasms I've seen to date... lol. You clearly know your stuff and recognized immediately what this band is about: Evoking and conveying emotions. Instant subscriber from me. Your life has now changed, and enjoy the ride from now on. David is one of the major discoveries this year, I'm an instant fan. Although the wrong version (5% too slow compared to the original Wacken version which is on youtube as well), this one is commented many times, but rarely as pure and professional as David did here. It was a blast and worth leaving a note, which nobody will ever read since 1300 ppl already left a comment before me. The amount of reactions is a sign of appreciation, keep up the good work David!
