This was the last song of the encore (after La Villa) at the end of a 3 hour show, in the city that gave them their U.S. start.

The end of a 3 hour set in their mid 50’s? I’d say they gave it pretty much everything they had. Cleveland was always their first fan base in the US & it shows. Killed it. Period.

Man, i love your approach to this channel! Its so obvious when other Reactors pretend to be hearing a song for the first time and they have all this insight and analysis over each tiny detail that is obvious they either ripped off or spent some time thinking about before hand. You however, Dave, are so competent and enthusiastic you dont need to bullshit anyone. Its a rare rare thing to see. Thanks!!

Glad you enjoyed it. Of course, to so many of us Rush fanatics this is a solid 10 on all levels 🤷🏻♂️ but everyone has their favorites and so be it. At this point of time, Rush was the one 70’s band that still had their complete arsenal of secret sauce and why I felt they were the best band on the planet 🌎 They could still create new, interesting and innovative music while being able to perform their incredible, expansive music catalog faithfully and forcefully; and as shown here, in new and interesting ways. Bringing that Reggae music into the last 5 minutes of a 2:40 Rush show was an unexpected and cool vibe to transition into a show closer of the first big song of their career and we all loved it live. Then to have them go ape-crazy ballistic was mega-joy inducing. To me and many others, Rush was the greatest band of our lives and we’re just overjoyed we lived in the era of Rush. Rock On! 🤘🏼🔥🎸😎

Oh yeah loving me some Rush! I especially like the old school 70s Rush. (That would be a Spinal Tap reference I think) Anyways back to Rush. A reggae version of Working Man? Well it's their song why not? The transition was cool I agree. Like the improv on the breakdown. Seems a fair score. Great reaction!

Thank you so much for doing some old school RUSH.... This was the first Rush song I learned to play and it has a special place in my heart. Dave, some bands you go to listen to, some you go to see and some blend both. Rush is a band you go to listen to, just like going to a symphony. You don't expect the first violin to sprint across the stage to interact with the trombones, right? I've always leaned towards the listen side in the bands that I like, but do love me some theatrics too (hello BABYMETAL), Peace.

I can't believe you never heard this song before /s. Lol Sorry I had to say it. Loved your reaction. Loved Rush's performance. Yes they are not the most visual group (there will never be another Freddie Mercury), but they make up for it with pure musicianship (that's another of the factors in the analysis, some groups sound good in the studio but can't play live). You sold me, I'm subscribing.
@mycroft162 жыл бұрын
First time seeing your channel. I like how you react to the performance itself. That's cool and unique. And yeah, your rating is very fair. RUSH hasn't really ever been about a performance. They're a listen to us band. They have some fun, they interact a bit. But with each of them playing like 5 instruments makes it a little harder for them to move around a lot. They have to remain by their keyboards and pedals. I love the transition back to the rock version from reggae on this one. A few words before it happens Geddy gives a little grin because he knows what's about to happen.

I saw them on their Power Windows tour, Worcester, MA. That performance was a 6.9. It was a perfect replaying of their songs I remember. Not much interaction with the audience or each other and thought not much reason to see these guys again. But here? I think there was something very special going on in the breakdown on this one. They were out for blood. At times it felt like a 3-man fight against the naysayers again. They're playing so hard, but so loose. And to add reggae and Cygnus? I love a band that's always creating. Cheers to Rush!

I had the sad experience of living in Hawaii. I was there 3 1/2 years and that was 3 years 5 months too long. The only thing that kept me sane was a nearby nightclub that had live music every Friday and Saturday nights. There was a band that played this song and I requested it every time I went there. So when they came in and saw me they KNEW that was on the docket for that night. I appreciate what they're doing here but I'm not really high on the reggae kickoff.

I cant believe......... I have never heard this song before. Australian radio sucks. They've never played a rush song in their life. I'm sure if some b grade modern alternative rock band from the mid 90's covered a rush song they'd probably play it a thousand times in the first month and talk about this great sounding new band though

Another fair honest reaction. Still a great score! I like what you said about Neil being hands down top 5. He's everyone's favorite drummer's favorite drummer! I saw that tour amongst many others and obviously that song was a staple in the set. Had to be. But like you said, you can only play a song so many times. Not many can do what they do as a 3 pc band at even 4 or 5 members. I do know a great current up and coming trio though(wink wink).

So, DH, I do get your frustration 🙃 I know you didn't grade the song, it is however my favorite version of the song. I liked the reggae twist in the beginning and Alex's crazy solo on the pickups...What!?...and I loved the stage setups and playfulness of their concerts in the last decade and a half of their career. You do realize these guys were in their late 50's, right? 🤣 Thanks for an enjoyable review 🤘👍

@@THEDavidHeretic It's what he does when he goes up the neck and runs out of frets. That's the thing with Rush, there's always so much going on with the playing alone, they don't need a lot more going on up on the stage. It's probably too much to take in on a first listen really. I also thought some of the camera angles were excellent when they captured Geddy and Alex striking poses together.

Working Man is from RUSH's first album, Neil Peart wasn't the Drummer Yet, playing the drums was John Rutsey, who was Fired before their first North American Tour because he had Type 1 Diabetes and he wasn't taking care of himself and the Tour Manager said if John comes on tour we're bringing him home in a coffin, so John wasn't fired because be was a bad drummer he got fired because of Health Reasons.

70's Rush was my favorite era and I never got into Geddy's vocals after the 70's/ Early 80's. I totally understand that as he got older, it was impossible to sing the way he did when he was younger but the way he's compensating here just sounds really odd to my ears.

You've never heard Rush do reggae music? I beg to differ sir. If you've heard "Spirit of Radio" what would you call the breakdown in that tune? Fun fact : When Rush recorded that song The Police were doing what they do and the guys were fans. That's why they threw the reggae into the track. A callout to their favorite band at the time.
