I'm glad you were linked to the version of these *two* songs that includes the sheet music -- it's more fun that way! I wouldn't disagree with your score of 9.3, but I would with you saying it's just one song. Melodically the notes are simply reversed, but the lyrics are entirely different -- they tell two parts of a linked story. Plus the drumming is different, not simply reversed, and there is background orchestration and choral elements in Revadac that are different from or simply not present in Cadaver. But, good reaction, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! That's the main thing.

Fun reaction! Was a little surprised none of the requestor's spoiled the secret ahead of time when making the request but it worked out really well - it was really fun watching the lightbulb go off above your head as you were like, "wtf??!? we seem to have reached the end of the song but we are only half way through the video... wait... cadaver... redavac... NO..." Highly entertaining.

The whole thing is based on an idea that Shiren got from reading a newspaper article about a Swiss company that turns the ashes of people into diamonds. So he thought of someone sending the ashes of one that they loved, then after a while the person wanted the loved one back, so reversed the process and bought them back to life. So yes the song was written to work both ways, the only the drums and vocals are different. There is one vocal line that is reversed and that is the last of the 1st and the 1st line of the 2nd which is in German. I don't have a problem with a 9.3, I may have if it was lower than 9.1.

Great reaction! It's a song written by their main songwriter, guitarist, screamer: "shiren", and I think this is beyond a masterpiece🤘🏻👍🏻

Great reaction and great score, David. I believe on patreon I was telling you that this song was like 2 in 1, "CADAVER" and "REVADAC". But in a sea of requests you might have forgotten(next time I could ask you to say a little note before the song(s) like some requesters ask you, just to make sure you're not "lost" at the start). Yes you're right on the money, the song was done with this intent of having it both going forward and backwards. I know you couldn't care less about the video but it also shows that, a lot of movements are reversed in both parts of the song, looking really weird but cool as an effect. For a context about what the song is about and why was it like this, here's what Fuki (vocalist) had to say: "Fuki: When I first heard about this idea, I had to make sure that the structure of the song was reflected in the lyrics, I wrote it with reverse playback in mind. In "Cadaver" it's about extracting the ashes from the remains of the deceased, there is actually a technology called diamond burial that creates diamonds from them, the song is about a person dying and being reborn as a diamond. "Revadac" is about bringing someone back to life from the diamond of their remains, It's also reversed. The idea came from an enemy character in a manga that Shiren and I both love, "Usogui" (Lie Eater) (serialized in "Weekly Young Jump" from 2006 to 2018), there was a scene where he left a will after he died, saying that he wanted to become a diamond. When I heard the idea for this song, I decided to use this as a motif."

Actually, Unlucky Morpheus officially lists "Cadaver" and "Revadac" as two separate songs not one. You should update the title of the video to "Unlucky Morpheus - Cadaver & Revadac". The songs are an outstanding work of songwriting and musicianship. If for nothing else, "Cadaver" and "Revadac" are enough to place Unlucky Morpheus up there with all of the Metal greats.🤘

9.3 is no reason to break out the pitchforks; it's still in the 'Awesome, Amazing' tier right below the UNOBTAINABLE realm of perfection. It is in VERY good company. Glad you really enjoyed the inclusion of the sheet music as much as I did. I'd also like to see more bands do this too. Thanks for another fun reaction.

As a big Unlucky Morpheus fan, I have to mostly agree with you. The impressive thing is the composition, that it can sound right played in reverse. But playing it in reverse is just that... playing the sheet music in reverse. As you said, any musician would know this. What I do have to disagree on is about them being the same song. They are not. They are two different songs using the same sheet music with one reversed. As a musician, I'm sure you know that there's more to a song than just the sheet music. That's where these become two different songs... in the lyrics and meaning. Cadaver is about the death of a loved one and their ashes being pressed into a diamond. Revadac is about using that diamond to bring back the deceased. So there are two different... and opposite... meanings. Also, another neat little aspect is in the video. Some scenes are reversed in the first song so they're playing correctly in the second. You can tell when the lyrics don't line up with her mouth and when their hair moves before their heads move. It was all done so some would line up with each song.

The only 2 things not played in reverse were vocals and drums, even thought vocal melodies were in reverse. You didn't look at the video at all, but they did a cut mix shooting about half of it forward and another half in backwards, and mixing things up :D

This is why musicians shouldn't ignore theory. Theory and composition is the difference between Japanese musicians and the rest of the world. It's often scored, even in rock bands. I've seen clips of Dir en grey handing each other full transcripts of their music to each other. Totally different level of commitment. I love the sheet music version too. Just following the notes. It's intelligent song writing, you have to think in advance how to maintain interest in both songs. So you have leads bookending it, if you followed a verse verse yadda yadda method, in reverse it'd have a big gap at the end with no interest points. So they've considered that, and avoided it being completely symmetrical. Feel changes in the drums, orchestration. So it's got symmetry, and asymmetry. It's got interest points in intro and coda. It's phenomenonal. And they did have intent, pretty sure it's in the description. 9.3 is a very good score. That's high. (just heard you mention these points as I wrote them. Lol. Musicians.)

I'm a huge fan of Unlucky Morpheus, your rating is absolutely correct (great score), the songwriting is the key element for me, the song itself isn't UM's best (I can always hear it, don't get me wrong) but the concept is outstanding (Shiren isn't just anyone). I prefer REVADAC. the two songs in a row "Live" much better, simply more dynamically raw. The video can be very confusing because it is cut from several variants, the lack of picture and sound synchronization can be very confusing, definitely preferable with sheet, the video is just a work of art as always with their videos

They deserved the 9.9, incredible composition, excellent melodies, perfect execution, incredible voice, harmonized solos between guitars and guitars with violin... I respect your opinion but I ask... what is missing from this song to make it perfect?

It can't be 9.3. It must be 9.6. Or 6.9. maybe. Wait, 1.1. and 0.0. are also available lol Anyway, these are two different songs and indeed they often play Cadaver only in live performance, so each song should be scored individually IMO
