The singer for this band is Britney Hayes aka Britney Slays (given this name because she slays). This song barely scratches the surface of her range. The song Tonight We Ride showcases more of her higher (yes I said higher) octaves. Hopefully one of your Patreon Peeps can push it to the top of the list. Really glad you enjoyed this 🤘😁🤘

Thank you Insulin Umbrella for getting UTA up. David, you could rewind this song 10 times and I would be fine with that. Britney Slays (Hayes) is a powerhouse. She can sing full opera, pop, rock, and power metal. There is a phone video of her at a Karaoki bar in Scotland, well lubricated, singing a Queensrhych song and killing it. Like Floor Jansen, Britney is a sweetheart.

Dave, I know I'm late to the game on this one but you wanted to know about the bass player. Here is his bio: Nikko Whitworth is a professional bassist residing in Vancouver, BC. Freshly equipped with a Diploma in Jazz Studies and Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz from Capilano University, Nikko is earning a reputation for being a solid player on both electric bass and upright bass. Believing firmly in exploring all musical territories, Nikko performs regularly in a variety of styles ranging from and not limited to jazz, metal, free-improvisation, film, funk, theatre, experimental, pop, vaudeville, electronic, classical… Nikko is also the co-founder of Vancouver based collective/label Postmodern records. As a side note, as a drummer, I am still amazed how this drummer (Scott Buchanan) is using a heal/toe method to play his kick drums which means he is playing LLRRLLRRLLRR (twice as fast) instead of the traditional LRLRLRL.....Insane drumming.....insane virtuosos form them all.
@MooreCEJr3 жыл бұрын
THe bass is playing a style called Clawhammer, sometimes called frailing, is a distinctive banjo playing style and a common component of American old-time music. The principal difference between clawhammer style and other styles is the picking direction. Traditional picking styles (classic banjo), including those for folk, bluegrass, and classical guitar, consist of an up-picking motion by the fingers and a down-picking motion by the thumb; this is also the technique used in the Scruggs style for the banjo. Clawhammer picking, by contrast, is primarily a down-picking style. The hand assumes a claw-like shape and the strumming finger is kept fairly stiff, striking the strings by the motion of the hand at the wrist and/or elbow, rather than a flicking motion by the finger. In its most common form on the banjo, only the thumb and middle or index finger are used and the finger always downpicks, hitting the string with the back of the fingernail. By contrast, the thumb rests on the fifth string with the downpick motion, and is often released in a lighter up-pick to create the distinctive clawhammer sound. In this instance the bass player clawhammer playing is producing the galloping sound or hoof beats as we ride into battle thoughout the song.. giving you a sense of ready for battle. :)

I just went back and watched Chase Carneson's reaction, and I see that you posted the same comment there. It's really interesting that he plays the bass that way. One of my friends from college is a virtuoso banjo and guitar player, and he'd use that technique on the banjo.

When reacting to certain other recommendations of UTA David, you'll notice this bass player's absence. The album Apex (Awakening is part off) was Nikko Whitworth last album with them. So albums Explorers and Abyss has Nick Miller. Still great, less casual.
@bobmiller68703 жыл бұрын
Another nice reaction David, \m/, and Unleash the Archers always puts a smile on my face. You reacting to UTA... pure gold. \m/ The vocalist you're ear holes are enjoying is Brittney Hayes aka Slayes, which others below me have already pointed out. Both she and her partner Scott Buchanan, drummer, and former guitarist Brayden founded Unleash the Archers back in 2007. I've been a fan of Unleash the Archers since seeing them at ProgPower USA 2015 in Atlanta, GA, and like you, I was kicking myself for not knowing about them sooner. Of all the bands on the ticket for that event, UTA blew me away... and that was against successful veteran acts like Anathema, Angra, Armored Saint, Dragonland, Riverside, and Saxon. And yes. They are just as good live as what you hear here in the video and on the albums. UTA's musicianship along with Brittney Slaye's vocals and energy just reached out, pulled us in, and took us on a ride for the whole setlist. I was set to go see them again at the ProgPower USA event over the summer along with the other awesome bands in the ATL, but alas, due to the coronavirus, that show was canceled and it looks like UTA won't be able to rejoin the lineup in 2022. There is an awesome video recorded on a phone of Brittney covering Queensryche's "Queen of the Reich" after a show in Edinburg at a bar on a karaoke system. Even though the quality isn't great... cell phone video and karaoke mic and speakers... Brittney makes it sound good, which just gives you an idea of how good she is. This "Awakening" track you reacted to is off of UTA's 4th full-length LP titled Apex from 2017. As far as other UTA tunes to react to, you will get requests for "Tonight We Ride," which is another popular tune from the band off of their 'Time Stands Still' album, that a number of reaction channels do, due to Brittney hitting some insanely high notes. You will also get a lot of requests from their latest album, titled Abyss, which they went ahead and decided to release last year despite the pandemic cancelling their tour that was going to go along with it. Abyss is an excellent album with great songs, but I would suggest more songs off the Apex album to start with because both Apex and Abyss are concept or story albums with Abyss continuing the storyline that begun on Apex. Off of Apex and since you like epic, emotional choruses, "Cleanse the Bloodlines" is my personal favorite for the music, the chorus is so powerful, as well as the artistry behind the video, but the title track "Apex" along with "Ten Thousand Against One" are way up there as well. You really cannot go wrong with any of the songs off of Apex though or Abyss for that matter.

It's fun to watch a good musician watching this band. That 3+thumb rolling bass technique looks so damn easy... and I've tried it for about 3 weeks off/on and I've gotten no where.. but I'm not a bass player... and my Ovation Magnum III weighs a metric tonne. Mostly self taught believe it or not. The ominous sound at the beginning comes from the fact that this song is off one of their epic, cosmic(literally) concept albums, you know good vs evil etc. They're master songwriters and storytellers. She absolutely can sing like that anytime she wants to, live included, I've heard her! Like Rush they can do it on stage just as well. My god before I even watch this to the end, I so hope you check out their songs "Soulbound" and "Abyss"! Edit: I know you are a bass player and the songs i recommended are done without a stable bass player, but imo they still kick ass and I hope you check em out!

Use all your fingers playing bass. He's awesome. Awesome band, each member. Well balanced. No weak spot.

they give lots of life to the three metal genres power metal melodic death metal and traditional heavy metal beautiful transitions and that voice of hers sounds like a female version of Geoff Tate and he is part of the three tremors not to be confused with the three tenors which are placido domingo luciano pavoratti and juan carrera but this band has some absolutely awesome rhythm sections that have such an powerful and quite uplifting elements this music its very anthemic and cathartic its like having metallica iron maiden and queensryche and since in podcast that brittany hayes did with elizabeth zharhoff when she said that she and they are big fans of queensryche and dragonforce this is just one song from the album phantoma such a musical masterpiece

Anthemic song of all time must be Manowar´s - Kingdom Come or maybe Army Of The Imortals or Bridge of Death but this is also a very very good song...! ;)

many people will suggest you listen to tonight we ride (and you should) to hear the vocalist (brittney slayes) really go for it. but i'm going to suggest a hidden gem that most reactors miss where she gives it 150% as well. that song is called time stands still. enjoy! :)

The style remindes me a bit of a fusion between 80s Powermetal and Love bites and Babymetals Japanese Guitar playing techniques.
