Europe is really amazing at interacting and reacting, especially in Italy and Spain where this was. Very passionate fan base.

Another phenomenal review! What makes this performance mind blowing in particular, is that the album this song was recorded on… had only been out for a couple of months and this crowd knew the words and they were hanging onto everything Bruce did! This Barcelona crowd is regarded as one of the greatest crowd’s Springsteen has ever played in front of and I stand by that opinion. Can’t wait for the next one! Keep up the great work David!

JFK if you see this bro, you gotta get him to react to Lost in the Flood from the NYC concert lol.

These guys were at the top of their games in the late 90s/early 00s. Band was fantastic and Bruce’s voice was in tip top shape.

You can well understand why Bruce loves coming over to Europe. The fans get so much more involved.

Great review! 'Dancing in the dark' was what he was telling Stevie. The first half of the show was televised, and this was the second to last song, followed by Dancing in the dark which wrapped up the TV broadcast.

If you like this song, I highly recommend the song "Sherry Darling," specifically the performance from the No Nukes Concert in 1979. The whole song, even the album version, sounds like a massive house or frat party and it's so much fun!

I think this is nice, entertaining song, good for the live performances as it is easy for the audience to sing along "Meet me at Mary's place, we're going to have a party !!!" But aside from that, I think the lyrics of this song are very deep. My perspection is the "Mary's Place" is actually a metaphor for 'heaven' or 'afterlife'. "My heart's dark but it's rising, I'm pulling all the faith I can see. From that black hole on the horizon, I hear your voice calling me." Obviously, Mary could be a reference to Mother Mary if Christian perspection is considered, but it could also be that any "Mary" has passed away, and the song is about meeting her and all other loved ones after our time over. (After all Bruce has used "Mary" as female character in many of his songs) "Familiar faces around me, laughter fills the air. Your loving grace surrounds me, everybody's here." Where? At afterlife party? Also how the song begins, "I got seven pictures of Buddha, the prophet's on my tongue. Eleven angels of mercy sighing over that black hole in the sun", I don't think Bruce wrote this to be a specific song for one religion, like the Christian faith, but more like universal song of any potential afterlife and meeting our loved ones again no matter what you choose to believe. Written for the Rising album in 2002 after 9/11 terrorist attacks, it fits to the themes of album well.

Off The Rising (his “9-11 album”). IMO it’s about Mary’s wake after dying in the WTC on 9-11. He’s telling friends & family to “meet me at Mary’s Place”. A gathering/ a celebration of life at her home.

At the end he told Stevie "Dancing in the Dark". This show's first half was broadcast ed live on MTV and he decided to say goodbye with Dark since It was faster than what they had planned originally

I’ve been watching your channel for a while now, and I’m glad to see your appreciation for Springsteen and the E-Street Band grow. I remember in the beginning, being this isn’t your type of music, you were suspect of Bruce. JFK just kept hitting you up over and over. 😂 Now you’re going to see the band, you know all their names, you acknowledge Bruce isn’t faking it…🤣 It’s been a fun journey to watch. Your scores are always honest and fair tho. I guessed 8.6 on this, and as usual, was pretty darn close. Love the channel David 👍

That was an audible at the end of the song. After Steve tells Pattie what Bruce said, she looks backstage to someone mouthing the word guitar while making a strumming motion.

I heard Steve say Bruce writes out the Playlist before the concert, and then almost immediately changes it once the concert starts.

You’re right, he called an audible at the end. Some of the show was televised live so he added Dancing In The Dark for the televised portion.

It's a good song with a good live performance I can't go into the great range simply because I've heard better but very good and I would definitely listen to this again
