When Trudeau, who could not run a popsicle stand, gets in the way of our economic creativity, destroys the incentives to build wealth here instead of fostering growth (or just getting the F out of the way, it is going to start to hurt harder and harder. It is mind-numbing to me that Trudeau feels impoverishing Canadians in the name of climate change when China and India pollute with impunity is a good thing. He is knee-capping one of the richest countries in the world when our footprint is a mere rounding error for China.

I can feel the sense of unease growing here in Australia. It all has to do with housing and how our currency has been devalued. My dad worked as an unskilled labourer and raised me and my siblings on a single income. Mom stayed at home and took care of the homestead. My dad only ever bought one house on his single income. Fast forward to today, I am a medical doctor, I earn a "very good" income, yet combined with my wife I would struggle to afford that same home my dad bought. That doesn't make sense, unless you accept our currency was debased and together my wife and I are getting paid less in real terms than my dad did working in a factory.

The only reason the USA is not visually in recession as compared to the debt based Western European countries is that 7% of GDP deficit (2 trillion dollars) replacing the low savings rate of households and the lack of corporate investment !! The real recession is being masked by a massive deficit that has been maintaining consumption levels at the expense for higher inflation !!! ... but for how long with these massive debt burdens in all sectors of the economy keep destroying the American middle class? The economy is slowly nearing this financial cliff and a reset is now an essential requirement for the survival of Western Democracies !!

Now, we're priced out due to price and mortgage rates. Wonder why Millenials and Gen Z are doom spending? Not getting married? Not starting families? Why is civil unrest growing while the wealth gap is larger than it ever has been in history? It's because this economy is not for us, it never has been since we've been around. It priced us out and left us behind before we got here. This doesn't end well for society at every socioeconomic level..

There's a great solution to get rid of all interest-related problems: Dont let central banks fumble around with leading interest rates! Always leave them low at 0% or 1% No hugher interest rates is need, unless for a few low earning safers on their emergency savings. Else it only causes troubles, like: - pointless discussions about costs of public debts, - imploding private debts, - firing inflation rather than fighting it, - preventing big capital from being productively invested (with some risk) vs. risk-free non-productive investments

As a Canadian, I agree that a key issue was that governments in the last 30 years haven't put prosperity and housing (more recently) first, instead of their political parties' divisive, polarising, and interest groups targeted agendas (equally on both sides). However, the solution isn't to tax large businesses less or to lower capital gains tax. We have social programs in Canada and these are part of our identity. The last thing we want is to become like the US socially and politically. If we can't tax more those with high capital gains (the recent change won't impact main street selling their residence or those making a small capital gains), the solution isn't to tax workers more, or cut our social net. Then what? We waste billions every year in public money, subsidies, that are misued by businesses who get them, that don't hold their part of the deal. How about more accountability on companies that get public money? How about closing tax loopholes for businesses? How about taxing excessive profit growth on the back of consumers (hello loblaws, sobeys,...)? When food inflation is 15%, but their profits grow more than that, then it means they are profiteering somewhere on the back of consumers or their suppliers. Corporate greed is everywhere. Most businesses in almost every sector have increased their prices for more than inflation or real inflation, and on top of that, many large businesses then send profits abroad to avoid taxes, not reinvesting in Canada. That's also a reason we don't have a good economy now.
@michaelhannan46684 ай бұрын
Wonderful idea. Tax business more and regulate profitability. That will surely lead to more investment and prosperity. Just wondering if we take care of companies that lose money the same way you want to steal money from profitable ones. I mean usually if there are excess profits we get new companies and entrepreneurs entering the industry. Your solution to steal profits solves this problem. Even better it will lead to supply issues and prices can go even higher. Genius!

If theres a collapse real estate will likely retain the most value vs everything else, tied with gold. Bonds will be worth 25 cents on the dollar. Stock market about the same decline. I have no idea what bitcoin will do. It could go to zero it could go to a million. That all depends how many people either lose faith in it, or have faith in it. Its only value is the belief it has value. It could be the winner, but not guarenteed.
@dre44r564 ай бұрын
Bitcoin has been the best performing asset since its inception. Every asset lives by the belief you attached to Bitcoin. It seems that belief is a lot stronger in Bitcoin than Gold if you look at the charts over the last 15 years, and now the etf flows are very strong for Bitcoin. So I doubt it's going to zero. I really can't see real estate performing the best either. Again, Bitcoin will outperform all other assets as it has for the last 15 years. I doubt that pattern will change. Real estate will likely be the worst performing asset, in my opinion. I suppose time will tell.
