Democracy is great - if the electorate is educated and informed, with strong critical thinking skills. And that’s not elitist. If we do a better job educating *all* of our children, they will grow up to be better citizens. That’s why Kamala’s plan to raise teacher pay is so important.

So I'm driving in the car today going through the radio stations and I hear Pakman and I'm like wow cool. David's talking about a clip of Jeanine Pirro clip where she's talking about some insane biblical prophecy about Trump moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Im out in rural Wisconsin and I thought it was great that they finally had some progressive talk on the radio out here. Then two Evangelical loonies come on and laughably attempt to dunk on David and start spouting off on how ignorant the left is and how it's so exciting to be living through biblical prophecy. Well at least you're triggering these kooks. Keep it up.🥖🌹✌️

The problem with democracy......is that, it can only flourish for greater good if, and that's a huge IF, the vast majority of people are informed, intelligent, compassionate, empathetic, loving, intellectually moral, human beings and voters. But we most certainly DO NOT have that when it comes to half the population. As David's guest says, we've never had a true democracy. We've always had a constitutional republic.

@@wallstreetwoes431 oh I'm sorry, I don't get the claim mainly due to the fact that it doesn't make grammatical sense, genius. "Vote themselves free stuff" doesn't mean anything. I'm sure what you're feeble little brain was going for was something along the lines of "they vote for the candidate that promises them expanded social programs, like universal healthcare, SNAP, WIC, free public college, family leave etc", which, btw, most progressives don't need to take advantage of services such as the aforementioned, because the majority of us have good careers with upper middle/upper class salaries, we vote that way because we are empathetic, pragmatic, intelligent, human beings who care for the less fortunate, systemically marginalized, LESS EDUCATED.....ya know, like people who write grammatically incorrect, and poorly structured sentences such as, "vote themselves free stuff".... does that clear up what part of your grossly erroneous statement I didn't get?? Leave it to someone like you to be invited to explain your position in detail and lack the muster to actually provide supporting facts to your (attempted) argument, and just say some dumb shit like, " what part of my nonsensical statement don't you understand?" You REALLY need to rethink your username because it's fucking hilarious, but not for any reason you might be aware of....oh shit, nvm, that would involve you THINKING, which you clearly illustrated on a public platform, you're not good at.... does that clear up what part I didn't get, there sport? If only I could "vote you some intelligence" but that doesn't make sense, grammatically or otherwise. Im pretty sure I just wasted 4 minutes of my life dunking on a Russian bot, but on the off chance you can comprehend what a moron you are, I guess it's worth it.

@@nTrumpSoShameful a simple version is say that you have a state with a large concentrated population such as California who passes law about property taxes which will shift the burden from urban to rural due to the fact that the urban areas are more densely populated. Democracy only works if everyone is on board or else there will turn into a stratification of groups of people

The discussion about what form of government we really do have versus the types that exist or could exist is precisely the kind of talk that is discouraged by the institutions and people that are in power. Rather than have this discussion, it is better for those in power to rely on the rhetoric that our democracy and constitution are the best so why question them? While we are all watching this amazing form of government unravel before our eyes, we really need to revisit this topic as a nation and come to terms.

Sorry to disagree with you. We are not doomed to history automatically repeating. The reason that studying and learning history is so important is to make it possible to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. And so that may repeat the benefits of the wisdom previously attained. But democracy requires that the voters have a reasonable level of intelligence, common sense and wisdom to synthesize the best from the different points of view, not a hateful smearing of ones opponents and adversaries.

@@chillytoes337 That is true, if people don't or won't learn from history they are condemned to repeat it. For instance Reagan started us down the path of recreated the "Gilded Age," that forced the Average Joe to struggle several decades to wrestle the power back from the Trusts of the rich. But the Trusts of that era would be the Corporations of today. Right now, we have lost the real substance of democracy to a rich oligarchy and it will take several decades to clean this mess back up with a New Deal 2.0, or what the young call Social Democracy. On the other hand the strategy of the rich elites is simple: Divide and conquer.

So I went back and yes you clearly come across with a superiority.. the irony (besides your misuse of the word “Colloquially”) was the main point was the importance of having the masses as informed and educated on democracy as the power class.. Makes sense why she rolled her eyes at you when you told your viewers to save their opinion because we are to ignorant to understand this higher level conversation.. so ironic and she clearly knew it too.. 😂I could watch her reactions to you all day. And I like you.. your just getting very condescending. Since this video not current it’s good to see you haven’t gotten worse but disappointing that you have been collegiately grandiose for so long. @Juanito G Hyperbole is a very American thing. "Patriots" also like to say America is the best country in the world, without offering any solid reasons for why this should be the case. When it comes to gender, there are obviously seperate biological and social dimensions to it... Nominally, we DO have a democracy (or, to be more precise: a democratic republic) but it is NOT representative of the people - both George W. Bush and Trump (the worst Presidents in recent US history) should not have become President, according to the will of the people (popular vote). Instead, our democracy represents corporations and the rich who spend a lot of money to buy politicians - and in that sense it is very reasonable to argue that we DO in fact live in an oligarchy.

When he came to the decision to call for and support impeachment of "his" president, he 1: Used the people's medium to explain well in laymans terms, how and why he came to that conclusion, and 2: He pretty much went straight home to his constituents and called a town hall. To explain and answer their questions in person.

@Dhanushka Jayasinghe "No one person should have a stronger vote then another." Which would create tyranny of the majority. Specifically the majority who live in New York and California. The votes of rural voters would mean *nothing*. They would be left completely powerless. The electoral college serves a purpose. That purpose is ensuring that a wide range of people from a wide range of areas, ways of life, cultures etc, all have votes that matter, if to varying degrees.

Her claim that the Founding Fathers did not anticipate the dangers that parties would pose to America (approx 4 mins in) is contradicted by the following quotes ... from Founding Fathers: George Washington: "I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally. This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy. The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism." John Adams: "There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution." Those quotes contradict her claim

Good to be reminded but she adds nothing any astute political analyst does not see. And everything she points to as problematic (as internet) is also the best possible solution. @@tomsimcox5066 yeah, that could be a problem in the local form, but I'm not sure if their situation could be even worse considering you still would have constitutional and national laws protecting disenfranchised communities. However, as conservatism is associated with low demographic density, direct democracy shouldn't be that problematic when applied at large scales, but it would be harder to implement. City scale could be a first step.
@tomsimcox5066
@tomsimcox5066 5 жыл бұрын
Erick The US, unlike Switzerland, is massive and opinions vary drastically with area and so while direct democracy theoretically gives everyone a voice, it leaves large portions of the populations feeling like they have no voice at all. In direct democracy, the Southern, rural states would get stomped on in every vote, and would eventually leave. This is why the founding fathers formed the government the way they did (eg every state gets 2 senators, regardless of size). They understood that you had to make everyone feel like they were getting what they wanted at least some of the time. If the people in a political entity feel like they don’t have sway over it they’ll leave, If the people in a political entity feel like they don’t have sway over it they’ll leave.
