I was subbed to both of his channels for a while, saw one of his early videos and liked the format. Eventually the essays got stale and his livestreams were funny, but his chat would kind of influence him to act a certain way, and he'd just start having bad takes and playing off the chat. Chats get toxic, and it rubbed off on him so he started getting a bit more negative than he would be without the chat. It also became apparent that he was a bit more conservative in his views than I thought, so that also kind of pushed me away. I'm too woke, I guess. I thought that KZbin had just stopped recommending me his videos after being unsubscribed for a while, I didn't know he actually stopped uploading. I'm sure I heard him say that when he talks about anything other than old metal bands, his viewers tune out, but like, make the content you want to make. Some of your fanbase will drop off, certain people like myself were bound to drop off anyways, just talk about/ do the things you like and people with the same passions will come along for the ride. And on the topic of playing a character, I love pro wrestling too, but never assume. Never assume that people are in on the joke, you'll have to tell people outright, and even then some people still won't get it, but that's their problem at that point. It looks like you've figured this out, we all do eventually. 😅

He has had very particular interests growing up and was of a generation where the cultural overlap was not as typical for social and cultural reasons. He can talk about the history of punk and metal, but he doesn't seem to have a great ear to judge modern bands. He was much more into the emo rap trend for whatever reason that many wouldn't understand. It is just giving unk energy

Finn McKenty is really a strange character, came over his channel to yours, maybe the only good thing that happened. Your outfit today reminds me of the belgian band Gnome.

Danny boy, you just unironically said that Finn needs to be current, and a good example of being current is discussion LINKIN FUCKING PARK the band that was formed in1996 before you were seemingly born and its original singer is gone? WTF lol that is hilarious whether or not intentional. Thank you for that.

Apparently he just never quit his regular day job, so he doesn’t necessarily need to keep doing youtube. Also one of his gripes was that he tried on many occasions to talk about current/new bands, and/or other genres he likes, but his own audience either game him so much shit for, and/or those videos just never did well with views (ie didn’t make good money) so he decided that the only way for him to make a living off of KZbin was to just crank out generic videos essays about Butt Rock and Metal bands. But I agree that he should talk about what he wants, if he actually enjoys it, and if his audience just doesn’t like it then oh well that’s just how it goes. But he is very capitalistic, so if the videos aren’t going to do well, then it’s pointless to spend the time and energy making them.
@bdr113080Күн бұрын
He and another KZbinr actually did talk about what you said about “hey there is a today happening” and you’re right, but he also made a very good point. Nobody really cares about modern bands. How many bands that have come out in the last five years can you make a KZbin video about? That’s going to get you 100,000 views? Not many. Which goes onto something else that he’s made videos about which is rock music whether it’s metal or pour hard rock or whatever, it’s dying it really is. Yes, there are new bands coming out, but you have to have bigger bands to get people into bands that aren’t as big. Without bands like Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Megadeth, Rob Zombie, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Guns N Roses etc. then you’re not going to get people into less mainstream bands. When all of the legends that are left today like Metallica and Slipknot retire, bands aren’t really going to be able to play in front of big crowds unless they do these big festivals that don’t tour. You know the big three day festivals that have three times as many bands that you can actually watch? That’s gonna be the only way most of them play anything bigger than a club show. And yes, I know it’s very cool in the world of rock music to not have money but if you don’t have money, you can tour. We probably in our lifetime going to see rock music become regional. How are you supposed to tour the country if everyone in the band works 89 to 5 job? So at some point after you’ve covered all of the bands, that will actually get people to click on the videos yes, I know the technical brutal death metal band that moved all of three units with their last release might be somebody’s favorite band, but if it only gets you 900 views, you just did a lot of work for nothing .
@Chaz4543Күн бұрын
There's too many modern bands and not enough fans. You try to turn someone on to a modern band and they say "oh I dont like that style or subgenre". Theres too many subgenres out there to gets millions of people to like it all. Its niche and underground for a reason just because you cant get everyone to agree that they like it.

His videos were always a paycheck to him first and foremost, so he might have found a bigger/more reliable source of income. He'll probably be back in a year or 2 (looking 10 years older but none the wiser) with a video titled "I made a mistake", where he talks about his bankruptcy and begs for patreon money. Then he'll be back to regularly scheduled wikipedia articles within a week. Wild speculation, sure, but "Business Finn" does feel like the logical next step.

Here’s the thing! He’s a cool dude. Very dry and I don’t think people get that. His main issue is he was out of touch with new shit and kept himself confined to his small fam fan base making nu metal videos ad nauseam just to keep his few hundred a day viewers and got so scared when they didn’t watch his videos about some band or something not nu metal. I hope he’s okay

Finn is an entrepreneur bro. He milked his channel dry and now he’s on to the next business venture. All these guys on KZbin love to act like they do it for a passion, yet as soon as they stop getting 250k views a video they start crying about the algorithm. Keep in mind, Finn thought Lil Peep, Trippie Red and MGK were the “new face of rock”. The guy’s a clown.
