Dennis, the LATE great Thom Bell composed and produced this...this was his FIRST Big hit. Thom would go off and have a LONG and GREAT career/ONE of the most successful composers, music arrangers and music producers of ALL TIME... he passed in LATE 2022.

No different than the Motown sound, Memphis / Muscle Shoals sound, or the New Orleans R&B sound. The records these places produced were loved by all of America, but they were created by small teams of geniuses in "flyover" cities. I wish we still had regional soul scenes producing timeless music.
