@@danielfonville1840 Real af. I consider Scrapped Watchman to be the "git gud" boss of this game. He was the first real challenge for me that had me stuck for probably a couple hours. He practically forced me to master the parry timings in this game and I'm glad for that. Scrapped Watchman was such a fun fight and does a great job teaching you how to play the game. Calling Scrapped Watchmen bottom three hurts, is definitely one of the best fights in the game. All of his attacks have a very consistent cadence to them that make parrying them very easy after you've seen them once or twice. And while on the surface, his three slam combo with lightning is still an opening, just at the end of the combo. Just gotta parry followed by a dodge to the side for each hit and after the last dodge of lightning I was able to get a charge heavy in every time, not to mention this allows you to quickly build up that stagger

Plus for all of these fights you can use the grindstone to give your weapon an elemental effect, making you deal a ton more damage. Humans are weak to acid, puppets weak to shock and carcasses weak to fire. I don't know why DeMod wasn't using them since you can use it every time you rest. Plenty of tanky first phases absolutely melt with elemental damage.

My go to is this. She uses that volley of like 6 lightning attacks followed by a fury attack about twice. Equip the perfect grindstone. It allows you to perfect block anything. Make sure it’s upgraded to have two of those, one for each of those lightning attacks. Throw 2 throwables at the beginning. Wait a second for her to get in the air. Throw like three more then pop the grindstone and block. By the time she’s on the ground on top of you, half her health is gone

honestly i thought the brotherhood fight fixed a lot of problems with gank fights, you have a lot more control over the fight than usual gank bosses as ad spawns are hp based and elder brother becomes very passive when another one joins the fight unless you go near him. even on the 2nd fight, only one of them will be aggressive to you while others sit around throwing out projectiles and you can even kill last 2 at the same time so you can fight elder 1 vs 1 at spawn.

@GeoGyf

They other enemies become very passive. No, it doesnt work the way the way they wanted to be (it almost looks like they are letting you win) & i fully agree with DeModcracy's claims. Maybe if they taunted you while they were passive & when the Eldest steps it would throw insults- that might be better- ie the passive enemies is not just a gameplay mechanic. While Lies of P is really good, it somewhat falls into the trap of busywork. And it not that good thing that a lot of the bosses fall into that category. Now that the market is starting to get really saturated, this made me really thing of which Soulslike i would recommend to other players (new or experienced). Lies of P greatest strength is the setting, but to tell the truth i would always recommend the Fromsoft games (they are the most polished) & most likely the Surge series/Code Vein. Because in the end its also about the fun as well.

There's also a Grindstone that you can get that will block any oncoming attack for a short time and be counted as a perfect parry/guard. Apply this at the very start of the second phase, and you can reflect about 3K damage to her on the spot without risking getting hit. The only issue I have with this Grindstone is that it barely lasts. You keep it for maybe ten seconds, which would be fine if that is the case for the other elemental buffs, but it's not. I understand it's likely for balancing reasons, as these fights tend to only last for two or three minutes on average (if even that as some builds can just nuke enemy health bars.) But if that's the case... why even add the Grindstone? Especially if it's going to last less time than the others? Regardless, she was a fun fight; I didn't even mind that she was a two-phase fight. However, I feel the devs relied too much on the latter half of the game's main bosses having two phases. But that's another debate altogether.

Very confused by your thoughts on Scrapped Watchman - not only are his deflects probably the easiest to read out of most bosses in the game, it was the boss that taught me how important perfect guards are. As for the delayed attacks, is it that hard to just read an animation? I didn’t understand this complaint about Elden Ring either honestly. Most of these delays offer some kind of tell the split second before an attack lands - your cue to guard. A genuinely great early game boss that teaches the player well, absolutely baffling ranking.

I think the problem is that sometimes with the camera of the game, it's hard to read the animation cause the boss's limb is out of view. This can be the case with the scrapped watchman if you are too close and locked on.
@tehCostHD
@tehCostHD Жыл бұрын
Well the problem with delayed attacks is that sometimes after the delay they come out too fast to reasonably react to, meaning you just have to KNOW when they are coming out. With the watchmen this isn’t a problem because his animations aren’t really like this, the swinging arms in the air attack before slamming down is very easy to read and deflect and same with his other attacks. There are bosses that genuinely do have this issue, but you are right when you say watchman isn’t one of them lol

it seems like you went into the game with the approach of dodging everything and then Watchman tought you that parries can be worth it sometime - I guess that the boss may work in this role. However, Demod (and me) started the game with the opposite approach, trying to parry every single attack like in Sekiro. If you'll try it here, you're gonna have a very, very bad time. It feels like the game did well in communicating to the players "you should try parrying in addition to dodging", but they never really communicated "you should also try dodging sometimes" to sekiro-style players - from all the tutorials, I got the impression that parrying is a superior defensive option in every situation, which is just not true

My problem with the Watchman is his second phase. I can even forgive the big guy for having his overheads out of frame and having to guess when it lands lol. Really made the fight drag on and made me not want to bother even deflecting him at all.

The thing is going for mostly dodging is just the wrong and harder way of playing the game. I started to learn the attacks of the boss early on and always tried to perfect block as often as possible. Whats also important is the use of Heavy attacks. Reflect and slap in that charged heavy afterwards breaks the bosses stance multiple times during a boss fight and it really shows that breaking a bosses posture is the way to play the game. Other than the Rabbit Brotherhood I never felt like a boss was too hard, just a lot of attack learning.

I always thought that the Nameless Puppet was implied to be the remains of Gepettos son Carlos or his first attempt to reincarnate his deceased son. Specifically, he calls the nameless puppet his son. The lore mentions that the nameless puppet was the first puppet to have a p-organ (but its destructive properties made him an unfit vessel for carlos, as well he refers to the p-organ as carlos heart, so its possible the nameless kings heart was also meant to be the same), not to mention his organic skin. Its like you have to kill yourself to become human and i love that.

Romeo is not only the best boss in the gameplay and mechanics, but through a lore perspective too. It reminds me of Gherman's fight - a sad battle not through intruding on territory or a blockade in the mc's progress, but one through the inability for a friend to communicate through a puppet's mind. You, the manifestation of Carlo as a puppet, were once Romeo's friend. You grew up together. So Romeo's final words hit so much harder "Maybe this is what real freedom feels like. thanks, carlo... As someone who spent 60+ hours to complete the game on a full Technique build I can say perfect parrying is insanely hard, but infinitely rewarding when you get the timing. It literally feels like Sekiro when you get the timing as you can just dismantle bosses. I personally loved this way of playing as it constantly employed a high risk, high reward playstyle. I think Victor was easily my least favorite boss. I just did not find his wind ups and aggression that fun to fight. Laxasia on the other hand was absolutely phenomenal. That second phase introduction was some of the cooling shit Lies of P had to offer, even overshadowing the final boss. Id definitely put her at number 2 as she demands all of your skill and knowledge up to that point in the game. That being said, King of Puppets is definitely a good number 1 and fight that taught me the importance of perfect parrying AND dodging in the right moments.

For me because of watching Ongbal videos, I developed my playstyle around mainly parrying. I parry looking at their hands and this game's parry timing jelled so well along with my method of parrying. I rarely used dodging as I love to fight head on with relentless agression. I did die a lotttttt but it just felt so good parrying and reacting without having to think twice but for nameless puppet I also had to use imperfect deflecting, that guy was a monster for my playstyle.

I did a full motivity build focusing on blocking and charged attacks, and I'm surprised at how different we found some of the fights. I found Victor fairly forgettable and Door Guardian just frustrating, but I found Fuoco hard and engaging and Laxasia pretty frail. I like the tier list and appreciate the rep of this game! I think its getting way undersold by a lot of people and hope to see more people picking it up.

I swear I spent like 10 minutes once, needing one stagger to beat him, and he just refused to go down, despite all the perfect blocks and charged attacks I landed on his exposed leg. That and the runback is just obnoxious. Door guardian was my least favorite boss by far.

Finding it hard to agree with this list, especially when I felt both Brotherhood fights were simple but kind of refreshing to get something different in terms of bosses other than "big slow man hit hard". The add's felt intimidating at first, but it quickly became apparent that they did barely any damage and if you just kited the big brother he just afked for most of it. And I mean, you can backstab them so it's pretty much impossible for the fight to be all that hard at that point. On the second encounter you face all of them but only the one that buffs their weapon actually has any aggression, so again all you do is kite the others, and with the last two you just bring both of them down to low health so you can instantly kill both before big bro wakes up.

a word of block tactics. depending on whether you use a light or heavy weapon, regular guards are entirely viable. if you quickly tap the guard while holding it you can attempt a perfect guard while blocking, making it so that even if you miss the perfect guard you still take reduced damage. if you have a light weapon you mix in regular attacks, which gets you both good guard regain and decent groggy buildup... while heavy weapons can straight up tank a full combo and then regain huge amount by smashing them afterwards (the amount of groggy applied on perfects guards is much higher than daggers for heavy weapons) there are certain fights that dodging makes absolutely trivial, but reguard guarding while fishing for perfect guards can be equally effective (especially on enemies with multi hit combos... the mad clown puppet being one of the easier enemies to grind this skill on)

I'm sorry but the brotherhood first fight is by far one of the best fights in my opinion. The elder brother being the main boss means that you only really have to get his pattern, which doesn't really change after the brother have entered the fight. This allows you to break his weapon fairly early(usually before spear brother for me, but by your description of the fight It sounds like you didn't knew) and the problem of him being fast and aggressive suddendly pummel to the ground since he doesn't deal that much anymore, nor has the same reach. Overall to me It seemed like one of the best fights the game had to offer

Looking forward to the community rankings on this because this is the first time in a while that we've diverged so much on our reasoning. Examples: 1. I like the first Black Rabbit fight. Before that fight I was struggling to read enemy tells for perfect guards. Afterwards, the game clicked and enemies became largely readable instead of being a memorization game. My complaint is that you get a substantial advantage by breaking his weapon early in the fight and there's no real way to figure this out unless you just happen to do it. It puts players with lighter weapons at a disadvantage. His move-set is actually *easier* to get the parry timings for on slower weapons, but the animations don't do a good job of indicating that. Still, the fight is supposed to test everything you've learned up to that point and help you integrate it, and I think they did a better job than you are giving them credit for. 2. Archbishop is the first boss I didn't beat first try on my NG+ run. I learned a lot in my original fight with him, but on NG+, the weakness of the camera is really apparent and it really makes you notice how much timing memorization the fight relies on as a result. (Whereas a lot of other bosses have a rhythm that's just hard to learn and tells that aren't natural to read until you have more experience with the game.) 3. Romeo is a great fight that is too big of a difficulty spike for that point in the game. His flame combo is the one move in the entire game that I had to look up and couldn't learn to avoid / counter on my own. It's so late in such a hard fight that you don't get enough reps to figure it out, especially since it's often an "I win" button. So you only rarely get multiple opportunities to practice in the same attempt. 4. Lax is better than Victor. It should be more obvious that you can reflect the lightning back at her and the timing on that should be better telegraphed. But the fight is a true test of your skill and it makes Manus a disappointing follow-up by comparison. Especially since the camera works really well for Lax despite her mobility and then feels a bit jank for some of Manus' bigger attacks in phase 2. (As best I can tell, for those attacks you just have to learn a rough timing on when he might do them an manually pan the camera around to look for them.) 5. Nameless Puppet should be higher in the rankings. It's a very clean fight. Swamp Monster should probably drop a bit, a few of the attacks really highlight the camera's limitations. 6. I strongly agree with you on Scrapped Watchman, but I suspect the community is going to disagree. I get what they were going for -- they limited a few of your movement options via the P-organ and wanted to have you master a couple of specific mechanics and rules of the combat system. But I don't think it works all that well. FWIW, I loved the game and think every souls fan should play it, but I wish they had done a better job directly teaching you the game's combat system instead of leaning on the fact that they had designed it to specifically challenge souls vet and could rely on their existing skills and knowledge. But, because it assumes you are a series vet, it leans to heavily on negative teaching. Most of the first half of the game was me doing a thing that felt natural based on my souls experience and the boss saying ""nah-uh, not in this game!" or "ha ha! I knew you'd try that I have a trap for you!". It still works because the game is made for souls vets. But it's a flaw I hope they free themselves from in future titles. The game deserves to stand on its own. It's such a shame that people can't truly enjoy it if they haven't seriously played a series of games made by a different company. As a result, the subtle changes they made to the formula and the unique integration of a bunch of ideas from all the different From games is going under-appreciated. You really do need to master your full kit in a way that is uniquely satisfying once the game clicks.
@jaden_ja
@jaden_ja Жыл бұрын
I think the game does a fine job at teaching you the mechanics imo... I'm thoroughly enjoying the game halfway through my NG+ run, and the extent of my souls-like experience is having played Jedi Fallen Order, which is probably one of the lighter emulations of the FS formula. I think the early game areas, specifically the bosses, are tailored towards teaching you how to approach certain encounters, when to parry vs dodge, etc. Once you get used to the feel of the game in these areas I think the system becomes somewhat intuitive. Above all, the learning curve of the game always felt fair: there wasn't a lot of jank in the game you could chalk up deaths to. It quite literally always felt like a skill issue, which was the biggest part in keeping me playing.

usually i agree with you, but genuinely i just think your not good at the game, perfect blocking is smooth as butter, also some things to clarify, p-blocking also prevents weapon damage and acts as hitting the opponent for the sake of guard hp regain, fable charge, and pulse cell charge, also it breaks an opponents weapon, massively reducing their damage output, and the higher the dizzy status is the easier it is to stun an opponent for free hits

If you use the perfect counter grindstone at the start of Laxasia phase 2 you'll auto-counter all the projectiles + the slam & get a free follow-up punish. Does a huge chunk of HP to start the fight. Its all about timing with the animation. Lies of P actually has superb animation and very few attacks lack any frames of that animation. That means, if you watch closely enough, you can see the moment the boss is able to slam down which is the moment you press block. Lies of P is much more precise in its timing unlike Sekiro. Sekiro has a little bit of fuzziness in its timing allowing you to get away with a lot by simple mashing guard before the attack lands. In Lies of P, that is not the case. You have to watch and know exactly when that attack will land to parry it. And as someone who can perfect parry damn near every furious attack in the game consistently I can tell you watch that frame the moment the animation starts to descend. The swamp monster is the perfect boss to practice this.

I never felt that the deflect was too tight in this game. You can make it a lot harder on yourself if you tap the block button to deflect, which would probably be instictual for a player coming from sekiro. One key difference in the deflect system here, is that the deflect only lands if you are still holding the block button when the attack lands (contrary to sekiro). If you tap the block button, you are cutting the deflect window short. That could have been the reason you felt like the perfect guard is more difficult than it should be.

I love Sekiro, but the fact that perfect guards are so much harder to pull off consistently in this game makes them that much more satisfying. Breaking the elder's weapon because you perfect guarded his 5+ hit combo flurry is the stuff of legend. Since I was technique all the way with 20-25 vit for most of my playthrough, perfect guard was necessary for me to master which made pretty much every boss a puzzle lol.

Lies of P isn't just a soulslike game, it's a game with its own identity that takes great combat, and builds from the blueprint of previous spiritual successors. I'm not going to spoil the ending, but I can't wait to see what they cook up next after seeing the ending 😂

I find this game really challenging, I beat most souls-likes from Nioh 2 to Sekiro but this game's bosses really push me my limits like Malenia, not sure if it is because it is the first playthrough and second will go smother, buty game time for the first playthrough for sure add 10 hours to yours

I think some people suffer playing this game by discounting blocking as a viable defensive option. They either try to play it like Bloodborne or Sekiro and switch between those two modes, but forget that they can just hold block when needed. There's always the opportunity to Rally that health back too with a version of the mechanic that doesn't suck ass.

The Buckethead lancer is the hardest? I found him to be the easiest part of the Rabithood boss :D Incredibly easy to avoid his attacks and backstab.

Great video :). It's interesting to see the differences people had dealing with these bosses. It's what makes these games great, the difficulty between bosses varies from person to person. Personally I thought the Door Guardian was the worst boss in the game by a large margin, while I enjoyed the Brotherhood fights. Breaking that big guys weapon is so satisfying and I found the quicker attacks easier to parry than those delayed ones

I feel the need to defend the Brotherhood because, up to where I'm at (just after Romeo), the rabbits are my favourite boss. I like how the rabbits have that passivity that makes them less of a BS gank fight like certain bosses in other souls and soulslike games can be. I also don't quite agree with the Eldest being too fast. His spin, for example, is probably one of the easiest attacks to perfect guard in the game for instance. You're also rewarded for doing it here because it's one of the few bosses that you can weapon break in the game, which considerably brings his damage down. Also that introduction is beautiful. The fact they bring a coffin to the battlefield just shows a sense of suave cockiness that immediately made me love them. On the flip side, I'm not Romeo's biggest fan. I think it's the fact that it's just two entirely different bosses one after another. The King is designed to be a complete and utter tit just to drain all your healing with it's heavy hitting, really wide range attacks that just hit you twice sometimes. Romeo, on the other side, has that desperation move which takes what Demod says about dodging being the best method of defence, a point I agree with, and throws it out of the window by just sticking the boss to you to hit you fifteen times and set you on fire unless your stupidly lucky. I actually really like Romeo as a character, especially when you see the puppets mourning him after his defeat, and his design in both phases is incredible (especially love the jet turbine attacks he pulls out in the King's phase 2) but the fight itself is just irritating to me.

You can actually easily time the desperation move dodges. There are many other methods but plain dodge backwards works. It doesn't even require a special movement routine like malenia.

Despite the big bro having deceptively quick attacks, which was annoying, I actually really liked the Brotherhood fight! It really taught me to perfect guard and keep track of attack combos to find my openings. His tracking is initially annoying, but I think is intended to incentivize gaurding, and teaching you that dodging may not always be the right answer. I also found the big bro had a hefty weakness to thermite. The gankiness I thought was handled fine, even without physical objects for aggro breaks, and in the end I found the big bro to be a fun challenge when faced head on

for the black rabbits, i found them to be really manageable once i had a strategy. at the start, i would parry like crazy to break big mans sword. for spear guy, he was SUPER easy to circle around and backstab after he lands a big swing. for rapier guy, i used the gun arm for really consistent interruption because he always approached linearly. the dual sword one was the one i struggled the most with but that boiled down to predicting their dash in to interrupt them. all while making sure to keep big man in sight and be ready do sprint away when he started a charge, which is basically all he ever did in the gank parts as long as you keep your distance. he would only walk super slowly so you have a good amount of time to focus on the partner on the other side of the room until he charges, then rinse and repeat

For me the major problem with this game is the huge health pool of elite and bosses. It takes too much time to defeat them while hitting, deflecting and managing stamina that the fights get boring soon.

I think a better way to say, paraphrasing what you said on the black rabbits, that the risk reward is too high to make perfect guard your primary form of defense, is that it's too high a risk *when* the boss does a 5+ hit wombo combo.

My issue with the black rabbits first fight is that the better you do, the more you are punished for it. I had the big guy mastered where I could burst him down, but if you do that you get ganked like crazy since they jump in based on hp. Felt like I was being punished for doing well

I feel like this game has a few problems that prevent it from being even better. 1)it's hard for the sake of being hard. 2) it doesn't fully commit to the bloodborne agressiveness since "health back" only works when blocking
@callummcgilvray4946
@callummcgilvray4946 Жыл бұрын
You dont just get health back from blocking though? A regular guard against an attack will take away some of your health, which you can regain either through a perfect guard or attacking, you have a window of about 10 seconds to do either or.

The thing I love about the Mad Clown Puppet dude, is if you wait for him to come down the street, and then run away from him, he will pursue you around the level. Most enemies will stop the pursuit pretty quickly once you get out of their main location, but the clown can follow you all through those streets, and even past where he starts up in that courtyard. I love the idea of a puppet stalking you through the streets. His area of pursuit is fucking huge, and that makes for such a cool encounter. Edit: during the Archbishop fight, you never actually HAVE TO fight the One Winged Angel. You can just run to his back and it will stay focused using its backside. It makes the fight ridiculously easy, since his fatty side is so slow.

I played until NG+3 and enjoy the game, but I have a very different opinion on these bosses. Putting Door Guardian above Watchman and Swamp Monster is wild. I also really liked Champion Viktor but putting him second is also wild. Archbishop was also one of the weaker bosses and would be down with the Black Rabbet Brotherhood for me.

One thing I caught, even though it’s at the beginning of the video, I’d that you didn’t mention weapon destruction, probably the biggest reward for learning the parry windows for weapon wielding enemies. Parry an enemy for long enough and their weapon will snap, or shatter, reducing their damage and range significantly. In the Black Rabbit Brotherhood fight, parrying the Eldest brother for long enough will chip his Greatsword and slice his damage in half, which is a massive help in that boss fight. This can normally be pulled off by the beginning of the second sibling’s arrival, or straight after the first if you’re good enough and get the spinning attack a few times.
