2023 won't miss. Lies of P is another GoTY contender, and my favorite game in the Soulslike genre since Elden Ring itself. They've added a lot of minor tweaks to the formula that are refreshing with enough reverance for their inspiration. If you love Dark Souls, Bloodborne, or Elden Ring, you owe it to yourself to try Lies of P.
Today, we'll be ranking the Lies of P bosses from Worst to Best, including Laxasia the Complete, The Black Rabbit Brotherhood, King's Flame Fuoco, Scrapped Watchman, Champion Victor, Puppet-Devouring Green Monster, Nameless Puppet, The Puppet King, Parade Master, and many more!

@@danielfonville1840 Real af. I consider Scrapped Watchman to be the "git gud" boss of this game. He was the first real challenge for me that had me stuck for probably a couple hours. Calling Scrapped Watchmen bottom three hurts, is definitely one of the best fights in the game. All of his attacks have a very consistent cadence to them that make parrying them very easy after you've seen them once or twice. And while on the surface, his three slam combo with lightning is still an opening, just at the end of the combo. Just gotta parry followed by a dodge to the side for each hit and after the last dodge of lightning I was able to get a charge heavy in every time, not to mention this allows you to quickly build up that stagger

The King of Puppets Fight was my personal favorite The story, the cutscene, the design, the music, the elegant animations, and the duality of fighting a powerful brute vs. a ruthless assassin is all so perfect. It meets all the expectations of a mechanical fairy tale. Not to mention, Romeo was a character in the original telling of Pinocchio. His role was to warn Pinocchio of the dangers trusting strangers. In lies of P he warns P about Geppetto’s intentions. A good callback to the original story.

honestly i thought the brotherhood fight fixed a lot of problems with gank fights, you have a lot more control over the fight than usual gank bosses as ad spawns are hp based and elder brother becomes very passive when another one joins the fight unless you go near him. even on the 2nd fight, only one of them will be aggressive to you while others sit around throwing out projectiles and you can even kill last 2 at the same time so you can fight elder 1 vs 1 at spawn.
@gbtygfvyg

@GeoGyf

They other enemies become very passive. No, it doesnt work the way the way they wanted to be (it almost looks like they are letting you win) & i fully agree with DeModcracy's claims. Maybe if they taunted you while they were passive & when the Eldest steps it would throw insults- that might be better- ie the passive enemies is not just a gameplay mechanic. While Lies of P is really good, it somewhat falls into the trap of busywork. And it not that good thing that a lot of the bosses fall into that category. Now that the market is starting to get really saturated, this made me really thing of which Soulslike i would recommend to other players (new or experienced). Lies of P greatest strength is the setting, but to tell the truth i would always recommend the Fromsoft games (they are the most polished) & most likely the Surge series/Code Vein. Because in the end its also about the fun as well.

Plus for all of these fights you can use the grindstone to give your weapon an elemental effect, making you deal a ton more damage. Humans are weak to acid, puppets weak to shock and carcasses weak to fire. I don't know why DeMod wasn't using them since you can use it every time you rest. Plenty of tanky first phases absolutely melt with elemental damage.

My go to is this. She uses that volley of like 6 lightning attacks followed by a fury attack about twice. Equip the perfect grindstone. It allows you to perfect block anything. Make sure it’s upgraded to have two of those, one for each of those lightning attacks. Throw 2 throwables at the beginning. Wait a second for her to get in the air. Throw like three more then pop the grindstone and block. By the time she’s on the ground on top of you, half her health is gone

First black rabbit brother hood fight was one of my favorites in the whole game. The very solid eldest brother moveset along with how he is very passive when a sibling is on the field, giving you time to 1v1 and with the fact that you can just block normally since their damage output is so low more being an annoyance at times, but that options puts you under durability threat. Then the choice on the final sibling to either continue trying to 1v1 or just all in the eldest brother to end the fight. Idk I think it’s a “gank” fight done extremely well

Romeo is not only the best boss in the gameplay and mechanics, but through a lore perspective too. It reminds me of Gherman's fight - a sad battle not through intruding on territory or a blockade in the mc's progress, but one through the inability for a friend to communicate through a puppet's mind. You, the manifestation of Carlo as a puppet, were once Romeo's friend. You grew up together. So Romeo's final words hit so much harder "Maybe this is what real freedom feels like. thanks, carlo... " - this is such a romantic, but desperate battle.

There's also a Grindstone that you can get that will block any oncoming attack for a short time and be counted as a perfect parry/guard. Apply this at the very start of the second phase, and you can reflect about 3K damage to her on the spot without risking getting hit. The only issue I have with this Grindstone is that it barely lasts. You keep it for maybe ten seconds, which would be fine if that is the case for the other elemental buffs, but it's not. I understand it's likely for balancing reasons, as these fights tend to only last for two or three minutes on average (if even that as some builds can just nuke enemy health bars.) But if that's the case... why even add the Grindstone? Especially if it's going to last less time than the others? Regardless, she was a fun fight; I didn't even mind that she was a two-phase fight. However, I feel the devs relied too much on the latter half of the game's main bosses having two phases. But that's another debate altogether.

Not only the get reflected back to her and deal substantial damage, the moment the last bolt hits her is when she would launch her fury attack at you. And here I was rapidly dodging all those bolts then straining my eyes on my screen to notice a flicker in her animation and then deflect

The thing is going for mostly dodging is just the wrong and harder way of playing the game. I started to learn the attacks of the boss early on and always tried to perfect block as often as possible. Whats also important is the use of Heavy attacks. Reflect and slap in that charged heavy afterwards breaks the bosses stance multiple times during a boss fight and it really shows that breaking a bosses posture is the way to play the game. Other than the Rabbit Brotherhood I never felt like a boss was too hard, just a lot of attack learning.

Specifically, he calls the nameless puppet his son. The lore mentions that the nameless puppet was the first puppet to have a p-organ (but its destructive properties made him an unfit vessel for carlos, as well he refers to the p-organ as carlos heart, so its possible the nameless kings heart was also meant to be the same), not to mention his organic skin. His overhead unblockable has the same thing but at least you can dodge through his legs though it feels weird with the lockon. His second phase is what I truly hate though, all that flailing about with weird timings, but mainly it's his charge moves, if you are against a wall you can't see what the hell is going on, it's like dying in a combine harvester, then there's his overly length combos that give the player little chance to react. As someone who spent 60+ hours to complete the game on a full Technique build I can say perfect parrying is insanely hard, but infinitely rewarding when you get the timing. It literally feels like Sekiro when you get the timing as you can just dismantle bosses. I personally loved this way of playing as it constantly employed a high risk, high reward playstyle. I think Victor was easily my least favorite boss. I just did not find his wind ups and aggression that fun to fight. Laxasia on the other hand was absolutely phenomenal. That second phase introduction was some of the cooling shit Lies of P had to offer, even overshadowing the final boss. Id definitely put her at number 2 as she demands all of your skill and knowledge up to that point in the game. That being said, King of Puppets is definitely a good number 1 and fight that taught me the importance of perfect parrying AND dodging in the right moments.

Most of these delays offer some kind of tell the split second before an attack lands - your cue to guard. A genuinely great early game boss that teaches the player well, absolutely baffling ranking.

I think the problem is that sometimes with the camera of the game, it's hard to read the animation cause the boss's limb is out of view. This can be the case with the scrapped watchman if you are too close and locked on.
@tehCostHD
@tehCostHD 8 ай бұрын
Well the problem with delayed attacks is that sometimes after the delay they come out too fast to reasonably react to, meaning you just have to KNOW when they are coming out. With the watchmen this isn’t a problem because his animations aren’t really like this, the swinging arms in the air attack before slamming down is very easy to read and deflect and same with his other attacks. There are bosses that genuinely do have this issue, but you are right when you say watchman isn’t one of them lol

it seems like you went into the game with the approach of dodging everything and then Watchman tought you that parries can be worth it sometime - I guess that the boss may work in this role. However, Demod (and me) started the game with the opposite approach, trying to parry every single attack like in Sekiro. If you'll try it here, you're gonna have a very, very bad time. It feels like the game did well in communicating to the players "you should try parrying in addition to dodging", but they never really communicated "you should also try dodging sometimes" to sekiro-style players - from all the tutorials, I got the impression that parrying is a superior defensive option in every situation, which is just not true

My problem with the Watchman is his second phase. I can even forgive the big guy for having his overheads out of frame and having to guess when it lands lol. But the deflect into ground electric puddles having you dodge ontop of that really made it hard to capitalize on small windows of opportunity he gives between combos. Really made the fight drag on and made me not want to bother even deflecting him at all.

for the black rabbits, i found them to be really manageable once i had a strategy. at the start, i would parry like crazy to break big mans sword. for spear guy, he was SUPER easy to circle around and backstab after he lands a big swing. for rapier guy, i used the gun arm for really consistent interruption because he always approached linearly. the dual sword one was the one i struggled the most with but that boiled down to predicting their dash in to interrupt them. all while making sure to keep big man in sight and be ready do sprint away when he started a charge, which is basically all he ever did in the gank parts as long as you keep your distance. he would only walk super slowly so you have a good amount of time to focus on the partner on the other side of the room until he charges, then rinse and repeat

I actually did complete opposite in the brotherhood fight. Since eldest kinda becomes passive when his siblings are around, I focused only him instead. I feel the need to defend the Brotherhood because, up to where I'm at (just after Romeo), the rabbits are my favourite boss. I like how the rabbits have that passivity that makes them less of a BS gank fight like certain bosses in other souls and soulslike games can be. I also don't quite agree with the Eldest being too fast. His spin, for example, is probably one of the easiest attacks to perfect guard in the game for instance. You're also rewarded for doing it here because it's one of the few bosses that you can weapon break in the game, which considerably brings his damage down. Also that introduction is beautiful. The fact they bring a coffin to the battlefield just shows a sense of suave cockiness that immediately made me love them. On the flip side, I'm not Romeo's biggest fan. I think it's the fact that it's just two entirely different bosses one after another. The King is designed to be a complete and utter tit just to drain all your healing with it's heavy hitting, really wide range attacks that just hit you twice sometimes. Romeo, on the other side, has that desperation move which takes what Demod says about dodging being the best method of defence, a point I agree with, and throws it out of the window by just sticking the boss to you to hit you fifteen times and set you on fire unless your stupidly lucky. I actually really like Romeo as a character, especially when you see the puppets mourning him after his defeat, and his design in both phases is incredible (especially love the jet turbine attacks he pulls out in the King's phase 2) but the fight itself is just irritating to me.

Its all about timing with the animation. Lies of P actually has superb animation and very few attacks lack any frames of that animation. That means, if you watch closely enough, you can see the moment the boss is able to slam down which is the moment you press block. Lies of P is much more precise in its timing unlike Sekiro. Sekiro has a little bit of fuzziness in its timing allowing you to get away with a lot by simple mashing guard before the attack lands. In Lies of P, that is not the case. You have to watch and know exactly when that attack will land to parry it. And as someone who can perfect parry damn near every furious attack in the game consistently I can tell you watch that frame the moment the animation starts to descend. The swamp monster is the perfect boss to practice this.

the game is hard, bo the red attacks are not a problem from my perspective. They tend to be rather slow and well telegraphed, plus you get bonus stagger from parrying them - in most fights, I actually look forward to the boss using them

@jakubpuawski3875 makes sense. I never got the parry down so I was annoyed by them.

Despite the big bro having deceptively quick attacks, which was annoying, I actually really liked the Brotherhood fight! It really taught me to perfect guard and keep track of attack combos to find my openings. His tracking is initially annoying, but I think is intended to incentivize gaurding, and teaching you that dodging may not always be the right answer. I also found the big bro had a hefty weakness to thermite. The gankiness I thought was handled fine, even without physical objects for aggro breaks, and in the end I found the big bro to be a fun challenge when faced head on

I don't know, I beat the first battle with the Rabbit after couple of tries, and the second one in exactly second attempt. If you got enough Quartz, got more pulse cell, all the bosses become manageable. The only Boss that took me many tries is the final puppet boss.

I feel like this game has a few problems that prevent it from being even better. 1)it's hard for the sake of being hard. 2) it doesn't fully commit to the bloodborne agressiveness since "health back" only works when blocking
@callummcgilvray4946
@callummcgilvray4946 8 ай бұрын
You dont just get health back from blocking though? A regular guard against an attack will take away some of your health, which you can regain either through a perfect guard or attacking, you have a window of about 10 seconds to do either or.

Why should it fully commit to being bloodborne when you have parry from sekiro

The rally system in Bloodborne rewarded blind aggression, not smart play. The guard regain mechanic here is a much smarter variation.

My issue with the black rabbits first fight is that the better you do, the more you are punished for it. I had the big guy mastered where I could burst him down, but if you do that you get ganked like crazy since they jump in based on hp. Felt like I was being punished for doing well

Finding it hard to agree with this list, especially when I felt both Brotherhood fights were simple but kind of refreshing to get something different in terms of bosses other than "big slow man hit hard". The add's felt intimidating at first, but it quickly became apparent that they did barely any damage and if you just kited the big brother he just afked for most of it. And I mean, you can backstab them so it's pretty much impossible for the fight to be all that hard at that point. On the second encounter you face all of them but only the one that buffs their weapon actually has any aggression, so again all you do is kite the others, and with the last two you just bring both of them down to low health so you can instantly kill both before big bro wakes up.

There are a lot of ways in which lies of p is what elden ring should’ve been. As much as I love elden ring. The way it combines deflections and posture of sekiro, the attack based healing from bloodborne with the classic level designs of souls. On top of that an insanely unique and fun spin on weapon customization with a beautiful aesthetic, and amazing boss fights. this game is truly amazing. I sincerely wish that we had gotten at least one or two of these systems in elden ring. Not to say I don’t love elden ring, but it really seems that the Lies of P devs learned more from the souls games than fromsoft themselves did.

Oh been waiting for this one, as I've been reporting as it's very VERY unbalanced when it comes to the bosses. Dodges, blocks and parry don't always work, on the master of puppets on the 1st phase I was hit 8 times in a row (not in a combo) whilst blocking and having full stamina and not trying to "perfect parry", the bosses and cross the entire screen in a heartbeat, no tells it's hope for the best which his bad design instead of rewarding learning and studying your opponent. You are expected to shovel a massive shower of sh!t to get some skills that would be expected straight away IE get off the floor quickly if knocked down. The lore, graphics, art direction all perfect, just that corner stone of combat is extremely unbalanced and bad at this moment in time. I'm at the puppet master boss and the only boss so far that have been balanced is the Iron giant as it's clean and plays fair. The devs are aware of the faults and issues and are looking into fixing them so it's actually balanced instead of a broken mess.

If I wasn’t able to complete all the other souls games I would say it’s a skill issue but I’m not the only one to say there are issues, the “GitGud” elitist are trying to “skill shame” others. So not accepting the block that’s an issue with the game, the dodge being pointless in places since the bosses are stupidly fast, you have no poise and able to close the distance and perfect tracking. Even this video is admitting there are issues right in the first entry which repeats time after time.

parrying in Lies of P is hard because it is extremely OP, you can stagger enemies, brake their weapons, heal part of lost HP and it all can be done including boss fights, it is actually very satisfying once you get it down

So, you can parry Laxasia's lighting bolts really easily, and they turn red and fly back at her, dealing pretty good damage. I think that's pretty cool and should bump her fight up a bit. It's almost like a Ganondorf fight from OOT!

Fun fact: the subtitles in the puppet bosses are just glitchy English (or whatever language you chose) characters that can be deciphered if you stare at them long enough. For instance, I’ve noticed half of the scrapped watchman’s dialogue is him screaming “GUILTY!” At you, while the other half is him lamenting getting kicked off the force. Probably the anger issues, pal.

Ain't no way that he placed MANUS over the nameless puppet. Manus felt so lame and beating him didn't feel good, more like finishing your household chores. Nameless puppet made me wish there was a boss rememberance mechanic like Sekiro bc that one was super fun. I only beat him when i figured out how to use a weapon skill to parry that one phase 2 fury attack and shit got real mf anime in the end

Something HILARIOUS about Laxasia I found out today in NG+, you can parry the lightning she throws from the sky, and it deflects back like some Sekiro Lightning Reversal. Does pretty solid damage too

final black rabbit brotherhood fight: 2 will attack, 1 will have elemental affinity applied to weapons at a time, 3rd will walk backwards while occasionally throwing items at you and attack or backstep if you get too close. Fallen Archbishop Andreus: if you get behind him in second phase, you can force him to fight in his "starter" form. This way is much easier as you should know "this side"s moveset. Laxasia 2nd form: perfect guard the lightning bolts at the beginning to reflect them back at her. doesn't do much damage, but I found it easier than to dodge every one with a chance of being hit by the potential small aoe as they land.
