"These are our children. These are not the government's children." In Germany there is a different approach. Children are not owned by their parents. Children belong to society. And society is represented by the government elected by society. Parents must not isolate their children from society. Children have the right to grow up with other children in society. Therefore, isolated home schools are also not allowed. Children must attend state-recognized schools to provide them with a minimum standard of education and participation in society.

This is a subject we will have to agree to disagree on, family. I didn't birth children for the goverment nor do I consider children "owned" by anyone - they are a part of a family lineage. I value the right to choose which type of school my children attends. Private schools and charter schools are able to receive accreditation in the U.S. Home-schooled children (which doesn't always mean schooling at home) score higher than children in our public school system and it does not prevent them from participating in social settings/society.

There are people with ill intentions, but no sensible person would do that to children. Children deserve to be exposed to different cultures and people. It just do not have to be in a goverment school system. Again, agree to disagree.

@TheDemouchetsREACT many European countries allow homeschooling. I know one couple who moved from Germany to the UK specifically to homeschool. Kids can certainly thrive and become very socially intelligent being homeschooled. Public school won't work for every kid, regarless og school system, but homeschooling will be even more valuable in a place with bad schools, the American puplic school system isn't doing great. I think there do need to be checkups tho to catch the few families where homeschooling is just a pretence to hide abuse.

I definitely agree with that. We do have other things in place such as wellness checks, but I wasn’t just speaking about homeschooling. I was more concerned with the right to determine which type of school is best for your child.

Jamaica has banned plastic bags and straws for about a year now, there was a little uproar and conversation but people have adapted. We will be banning more single use plastic items later this year and early next year too. So bring your reusable straws fam. 😅😅

We did too in germany, the best solution for a biodegradable straw I found is made of uncooked pasta. Sounds weird but is actually pretty good. Each time we used rusable straws (glas, metal) the coustomers tended to pocket/steal them. Also to clean 10.000 or more of these reliable is a nightmare on its own. The paper ones either didn´t last very long or were shit for the enviroment because the paper is basiclly infused with water resistant plastic. So it is uncooked pasta, thanks to italy.

Hey there, about that School system i get what Alexis is saying but she missed some Points. Me as a German and also Parent must say, i allways find the system perfekt working and it´s not true when i read in the comments "Goverment´s Children". You are allways allowed to switch the school for a better if your Child is feeling beeing bored because it has special needs. Means, Kids are NOT stocked in the once by choosed School from Parents AND Teachers. That´s also what she didn´t mentioned. The Teachers are the one who obviously spends the most time with the Kids at school so they do a Report on the Parents what they think would might be the best school in their opinion but that DOESN´T mean if the Kids (when they have reached the needed Point´s as a goal for a special school that you have to have) the Parents can than say but we wil choose the school that my Child want´s to attemend. If the Child struggles after round about a half year, normaly the Teacher will have a conversation with you to find a way how to help the Child before you maybe wanna choose another school. So it´s much easier and so much more in and around the School System that it´s almost impossible to put it in that short Video as Alexis did. 😉

I havent used a plastic bag in years tbh. I still own one of these plastic cooling bags from my local Aldi but I rarely use it. All my groceries and shopping can be done perfectly well with paper bags or reusable fabric bags. If I go shopping wiht my bike, a backpack is usually enough as well. Same goes for plastic cups or straws. Straws are not really needed for anything anyways and getting around using plastic cups is so easy too. Either everyone has paper cups, their own bottle, metal cups or camping cups. You'll have less trash that way too.

It´s not only that you´re required to carry that vest and triangle in your car. You´re required by law to carry a first aid kit, too. And you won´t get a drivers license, if you can´t prove, that you´ve taken a recent first aid course. If you help in an emergency, btw, you´re automatically insured, in case you make a mistake. Oh, and no car goes uninsured. Law enforces insurance for cars, and a 3-yearly evaluation of safety and functionality for new cars, respective 2-yearly for older cars. If your car doesn´t pass that investigation, that includes all technical stuff and exhaust gas values, it CAN be prohibited to be taken on the road.

"When you're in a city you should know the speed limits of the major roads." That's the point she is trying to make (I guess, honestly that part is a little confusing even for us germans...) In Germany you don't have to know the speed limit of a certain road. You're in a town, city or "enclosed setlement", the speed limit is 50. By default. No extra sign needed. On some major roads it may be higher, in that case speed limit signs will be there at very frequent intervalls. In a small street residential neighbourhood it may be 30, which again would be posted. But that's basically it. So you're in a city, there is no sign --> 50 is what you do. And I think it's that consistency that's the real difference to the US. You get so used to this set of speed limits that at some point you don't really need a sign any more. Just look at your surroundings, where you are, what kind of street you're on and for god's sake don't just copy the speed of some random other driver!

Ich finde es immer witzig wie die Amerikaner denken das es bei uns vorgegebene Schulweg gibt. Da wird leider etwas zu wenig drüber erzählt, aber meistens deswegen weil die was es erzählen nicht besser wissen oder denken es lohnt sich nicht. Auch jemand der in die Mittelschule geht, kann über seinen Beruf studieren gehen, zumindest hier in Bayern, es gibt Bundesländer da geht das tatsächlich etwas schwieriger, aber gerade weil wir hier in Bayern so viele Möglichkeiten haben ist es nicht schlecht. Ich denke auch das die 4. Klasse zu früh ist, man sollte das erst ab der 9. Klasse wirklich trennen, so wie es die skandinavischen Länder haben, aber ich denke da bin ich nicht alleine und trotzdem kann man sehe viel über die Ausbildung regeln. Angeschlossene Ausbildung mit Note 2.5 oder besser und man hat hier automatisch die mittlere Reife nachgeholt, danach kann man auf die BOS gehen, dort sogar sein Abitur nachholen und studieren oder einen Berufsbezogenes Studium machen, was sich anbietet, besonders dann wenn man seinen Beruf liebt. Es gibt aber ja nicht nur das Studium in Deutschland, gerade auch im Handwerk kann man dann den Meister machen nach der Ausbildung und von da weiter zur IHK um Inspektor auf seinem Fachgebiet werden etc... Du hast viel Möglichkeiten und vor allem kann man auch mit einem kleinen Abschluss viel erreichen und gutes Geld verdienen, was in Amerika absolut nicht möglich ist und deswegen sind die technisch und gerade auf Ingenieursebene Europa nicht gewachsen. Deswegen fahren die dort drüben alte Autos, weil die Mechaniker dort nicht einmal wissen wie die elektronik funktioniert, hier in Deutschland und in Europa ist das ein Ausbildungsberuf, wo man 3, 5 Jahre spezifisch lernt und auch davon kann die USA nur träumen. Wenn die da drüber nicht langsam umdenken, werden die irgendwann in ihren Alten Mechaniken sterben. Man kann über Deutschland natürlich meckern, muss man auch, weil sich sonst nix verändert, aber in der Hinsicht sind wir der USA Lichtjahre voraus

In Germany there a a few private schools, most if you want to have a special kind o education like Waldorf, but there are overall less than 5% on private schools. Only homeschooling is forbiden, as the children have a right on social interaction with peers. So you have to send them to a school. May be it would be the best only with public school like in Finland, so everybody cares about the school in the neighbourhood. If there are too much private schools, those who can afford private schools, will send their kinds to the "better" schools and are not mor interested in the school around the corner.

In Germany, a fire extinguisher is not required. In driving school I was recommended not to buy one, for three reasons: 1. It's very rarely needed but has to be checked/refilled regularly. (I guess this is different for Teslas.) 2. Most people can't use it correctly anyway and it's unlikely they can be taught given how rarely it's needed. 3. In the event you actually have an accident in which a fire extinguisher is needed, the ones people usually buy are normally way too small anyway. I don't know if any of this is correct. Just reporting what one German driving instructor said on the topic.

I don't think you really know what the difference in the school system is. The option you have is not "real" it depends mostly on economical factors and where you live. Many people can't afford further education in the US. That is not the case in Germany. Also public schools are really good, private schools are oftentimes worse even or offer kind of special programs for "alternative people" who don't believe in traditional schooling methods. Teachers have a good salary in public schools and often earn less in private schools. Home schooling is heavily restricted because it's difficult for most parents to properly teach children so that they really reach the level of education that a school with good teachers demands. It's also restricted because it can be abused by the parents, they might isolate their children and indoctrinate them with religious ideas and theories. That's dangerous and therefore home schooling has a very bad reputation or is forbidden altogether. The parents need to prove that they are capable of educating their kid in all the relevant fields. They cannot skip certain subjects which makes it difficult for most people because they don't know enough about certain subjects themselves (like foreign languages, maths, biology) etc.

There is something about homeschooling that many of you don’t know. In America there are homeschooling programs that are set up with teachers and academic curriculum. The parent doesn’t have to be a teacher to their child/children. You have to be responsible for making sure your child is up every morning and in front of the laptop in time for the first class that can start at 8a/9. And the school day can end at 3/4 or 2 on some days.These programs provide laptop,books and all the tools that the children need for science projects etc. They provide physical field trips. The parents can create gym classes by doing outside activities. You record attendance and the school checks the progress of the students. It’s state monitored and it’s payed for by the state. Whatever it cost for that child to attend a public school that funding is given for homeschooling. Homeschooling is not just a lone parent teaching what they want to their children. Many of you are not properly informed on homeschooling and you make sweeping generalizations that are just incorrect.

Reusable "for life" bags are standard in the UK. But if you forget, you can buy them at the counter and they are lined with something so that if liquid, blood from meat etc. can't seep out. One store called the Co-op, bags are compostible.

24:45 i think she meant by "no understanding of how much they consume" the consumption of plastic bags, plastic bottles, etc. and not the amount of groceries they buy or the amount of money they spend. it's more about the "no-limits-mentality" just for their convenience (wrapping items in 4-5 bags, using one bag per item [bcs some customer complained], etc.), instead of worrying about how bad this garbage will effect the environment (with amost no recycle system it's even worse).

A few years ago a player of our local hockey team got killed in an accident similar to the mentioned scenario. They had a crash on the Autobahn and likely in shock he ran onto the street where he hit by a truck. The team worked so long for the title and back then in 2019 it finally happened. Since then the local hockey team of our small town is recognized as a professional team again. And sadly one player of the team never had the chance to get that experience.

Only reason i miss plastic bags in stores is that i used them as trash bags for the stuff i bought..now i got to buy a roll of plastic trash bags extra which kinda defeats the purpose on my side. This is the standard speed limits for the EU: 50 on urban places, 90 on other lanes, 100 on fast lanes and 120 on the highway, so if you know the type of road you're in, you will know the speed limit, which makes it more intuitive and easier

Reusable bags are standard in germany, ImO they are also an expression of our frugal nature. Before plastic was completly banned we had a long phase of bags cost 20-50Cent in grocery stores. That alone was an incentiv for people to get their own bag. Today your shoping bag is a statement. High Tech aluminum and fabric foldable basket = Mother and women in their 40s. Jute Bag with tiny holes and some patched holes = enviromentalist or very frugal (I will use that until it becomes damaged beyond repair) Citybackpag or Messenger Bag = Students or Office workers Jute Bag = Berliner or the typical young adult Paper bag = forgot your own bag and is praying every step that the damm paper won´t tear up and spread your food over the world And so on^^

In many city in Germany there is now often a major speedlimit of 30km/h (mostly made by the cities themself). But the normal rule is still 50km/h.

you absolutly don't need lastic bags, at all. especially not these days! everybody is running around with a backpack, or a shoulderbelt-bag oder somthing like that you gonna by groceries? take a backpack with you! bookstore? same thing, backpack! clothes? backpack! what ever you wanna shop, take a backpack with you. you never gonna need a plastcic bag ever in your life. and if you really need to buy a bag at the store, backpack is full or something, buy a paperbag! i'm doing that everytime i go to the supermarket or somewhere else. for years and years now. if the supermarket ran out of paperbags, i will buy a reuseable shopping bag, i guess the women in the video showed you. they may also be made from plastic but thats different kind of. and you don't throw them away, because they are reuseable the only plastic bags i still buy, are those for the frashcans, in lack of an good alternative i don't care for rain making me and my hair wet, if it got wet, so what? it is water, not acid or poison. it will dry out. but those god damn bags and that damn palstic will find a way into the ocean and there it will do it's damage to the ocean the ocean living animals, and so on! greetings from Vienna / austria / europe

@@TheDemouchetsREACT well, let me tell you this. for shopping it's just one reason we all were running around with a backpack. it is convenient! in geeneral speaking you leave in the morning for the job and having you personal belongings in the backpack, like port money, handy or like you in the US calling it smartphones, MP3 player, maybee a bottle of water or something. after work some of us will often jump into a grocery store or a supermarket and gathering a few items for the evning or dinner, you know, everyday scenario for a single guy, or maybee for a guy living together with a girlfriend. if you know have a familie with kids that would make that a bit more difficult because you more stuff. so first home clearing the backpack or switching with a bigger one and leaving for the stores. but still, .. backpack is the way to go, or if you driving to the supermarket in the country side especially. i would use hard plastic boxes for my grocery haul. no idea if you have them but we here in austria and i guess in germay too ... we have fold able hard plastic boxes. if i life with a family on the country side and went to the store for a bigger haul i would take one or maybee two of those boxes with me fill them with the haul and drive home with it. i would never use plastic bags for. but you get the idea or you may have to put the working clothes in the washing mashine, means you have to takes them with you. so ... we put them in the backpacks. you see where this is going, right? those plastic bags - at least in my opinion - are a pain in the a@@. it is a huge waste of ressources and folks don't use them a second or a third time, instead of that that bags got thrown into trash. not worthit!

Hello from Germany, I just wanted to leave a brief overview for the general speedlimits in germany everybody learns about in driving school. So generally when you enter a town or city you have to slow down to 50km/h except there is a sign that says otherwise (for example in areas where there is a school or kindergarden with potentially kids running around you drive 30 as a general rule) There are of course exceptions, but to explain all that would go too much into detail. Outside of the city you have to follow the signs but there will be no sudden drops like you said happend to you. Generally you can go up to 100km/h and when there is a crossing you slow down to about 70km/h. Everything else is just signs. I guess I would be totally lost from what you told about american speedlimits. Take care, I love your videos ❤

In Ontario Canada we have a Move Over Law under the Highway Traffics Act that requires drivers to slow down and if safe move over one lane when passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck with its lights flashing. For not obeying this law, the fine is $400 - $2000 and you lose 3 demerit points.

Every car sold in the EU will have the maximum towing limit in the cars hand book There are 2 limits , one for a trailer with breaks and one without You match the trailer/ caravan to your car , I think for you guys the trailer can not weigh more than 3/4 of the weight of the towing vehicle Each car has special mounts already installed when manufactured to receive a purpose build tow bar and hitch Iv towed thousands of miles in the UK and Europe , the caravans are surprising light for their dimensions, a law was brought in a few years ago to make sure you take an extra test to tow any vehicle regardless of size and use Don’t forget a lot of us don’t have the space for multiple vehicles and we may have to park our caravan in a secure place away from our home , so as she said one car may have to do lots of jobs

School is free in Germany , those who may push their children more than teachers are rather the parents who complain about this Teacher or that Teacher because of C or D notes for their child . A smart child can study on a University , no problem in Germany , its free , they will have no Debts for the next 2 Decades like in the USA . She said the split happens at a jung age , true, its after the 4 th Year on Elementary School = 10 to 11 , but its not that the kid has no chance to chance to a higher School later , but that will only happen if their grades are good - not on demand of their parents . Dont get me wrong , most parents will only the best for their kids ... but a kid is happier wit B or C grades on a lower School than with D or E grades on a higher school , they only will be dissapointed . Its not that those who graduate on a lower School do not get a Job , Craftsman , manual workers and´repairman usually recruit from there as well as companys recruit their workers there . Besides , an graduation from a Highschool or University in no guarantee for a high paid Job , there is much competition. Even more than in the USA , because its free to study .

Actually sending children to where you want is ... difficult. Because it will lead to certain schools being neglected as "bad" so teachers send there will be less motivated because of the reputation. This way you start a downward spiral. Think of it like the creation of an educational ghetto. And as another person already pointed out: there is a difference between government and society. And children are part of society and its future. So the say of parents should have limits.

About the school system: there is actually little bit of a better improvement to it in recent years in Germany: Basically after the 4th grade you used to go to one of three different schools, depending on how good your previous grades were, or you could also go to something called "Gesamt Schule" Which combines all three together in one, and depending on your performance you have the option to be put in lesser or higher levels of classes, thus increasing your chance of getting the higher education, which there are a total of three, a low one, a middle one, and a high one. Now days these three different school system is slowly getting abolished and replaced with only this "Gesamt" school system, so even if a student was not performing well in elementary/primary school ( dunno how its called in English) for the first 4 years of school, that student can still shoot for the higher education, and it also better for the social aspect since friends are not forcefully broke up, due to the system. Afterwards of course that is a different question, since after 10 years of school you are done and you get your diploma ( or 11 years if you didn't et the desired diploma and you wanna go for another year to get something better). Then depending on the job you want to learn you either continue school with university as example, or you undergo something that is called "Apprenticeship" i believe, which is basically 3-4 years or theoretical and practical training ind the field of work you want to learn, basically getting specialized in this job. After those years, just like university, you have a final Exam, and if you pass, not only you get a diploma, you also get your license so that you can back it up that you are a "Specialist", aka you were trained in this job for 3-4 years and you got the license to back that up. This is in a lot of work places valued more than just a university degree, thus a better time investment, university you only really go if you want to be a Teacher or Doctor as example. That is how it is at the least here in Germany. Also the place were i live in Germany: If you flaunt around your education, people don't take too kind to that. Germans are the masters of passive aggressiveness, they don't usually tell your directly in your face when they dislike you, but you will notice that people do not like you because you acted high and mighty.

This system seems to make sure every child have a sense of what they want to be, which we appreciate. Our public system is split between 3-4 "levels" and it depends on location. In our area, we have elementary, intermediate,junior high, and then senior high. Intermediate starts to implement the career track, but it doesn't truly begin until senior high, which prepares them for college (university) and a trade. Education isn't free here, so it is definitely flaunt (but more in a way of being proud instead of being prideful).

​@@TheDemouchetsREACT well, i want to abloish this "Myth" of education being free, university is not, but you are not ending with 20k-30k dollars in debt. My cousin became a teacher and she went to University of course, and her husband aswell since he works for an insurance company and Uni is a minimum entry requirement. Both worked part time in a super market and both their income was more than enough to have a roof above their heads, food on the table, and they payed for university expenses easily. On top of that they also got some support money from the state that they don't have to pay back (but only under certain circumstances they don't have to. Usually you have to but not the 100% sum so even that is lesser, and it does not take decades to pay of either). One semester costs around 200-300 euros from what they told me, per person... so if you go for 6 semesters total, not including expenses for some school mats etc., it is around (lets be generous) 2000 euros.

@@RamothElggurin Germany you don’t pay a tuition fee for public university, but an administrative fee and for public transport. The education itself does not cost you anything directly. In the USA you pay the administrative fee and tuition fees.
