Making Mead | Part 2: Conditioning

In this stage of mead making, we take the mead off of the yeast and raisins and move it over to the second container where it will sit for another few weeks to clarify and condition.

You two are so cute and fun! You have mad skills and such patience! I lived at the base of the Bitterroots and we packed into camp each year. We always took blackberry brandy with us because my father-in-law always said it would break a chill and is also good for shock in the case of an accident. Buddy you are a great Viking! ❤️🙏

I have to thank y'all.....I do my best to learn something new everyday no matter the material. I am told I have a vast wealth of useless knowledge and find myself answering some, off the wall, questions at times because it is filed away in the deep dark recesses of my mind. Making mead is very fascinating! I'm also very into genealogy research. My maiden name is Lynch, so my first surprising ancestry find was Thomas Lynch, one of the patriots who signed the Declaration of Independence. I was completely stunned. I'm mostly English, but also have some Swedish and Scandinavian genetics also. On one side I got back to the 1500's also as my Mother had alot of English Royalty in her lineage.. back to Charlemagne actually. It's just all very fascinating. You two find the most intriguing things to experiment and perfect together. 😊

I love mead, and you make it look so easy to do. Good luck, Buddy, on tripping down the genealogy staircase. It's pretty impressive to go back to 13hundreds. Is your dad still alive to ask questions? How does he feel about what you found? Pretty cool for your kids to know all of this as well.

My sister is addicted to ancestry too. On one side she discovered King James of Scotland was our something 15 times great grandfather! How cool is that ! We also have Scandanavian. My great great grandather on my Dad's side came to Australia from Norway. Hence my surname. But the bulk of our DNA is Irish.

I use to work for a small Meadery. Due to management/owner issues we couldn't get into the building to transfer the mead to the conditioner vats for about 16 months. When we were finally able to get back in the building we had been prepared to dump all 6 fermenters worth, but the head mead master said let's try it first. It was like drinking candy, so sweet and the flavor was amazing. It blew my mind it was fine after all that time.

Stephanie you and Buddy making wine/beer and all the different foods, breads and canning you two do and it you make an amazing couple who do things together and teach as you go. Your kids will be all the better for it and you as people when you two work together and not apart. I know he has friends and you have some girlfriends and that is healthy. Always be who you are on Morrow Hill and caring and loving to those that live on Morrow Hill. I realize a few are living on different properties but they are forever Morrow Hill ... Loved watching your Garden and Bee's not so much only because I had a swarm of bee's attack me as a small child and they darn near killed us. My brother messed with their nest in the ground thinking it was an ant nest they attack and they meant business we had over 150 bee stings each and the doctor told us we'd be allergic to their sting forever. We don't know but watching you go through it just reminded me of it. I fear for you and I know you and Paw Paw are good with the bee hives on the farm but, just be careful and just don't get hurt :( anymore. I know you scared Kim and Buddy was slightly a nervous wreck...but you scared it out of Paw Paw who dearly cares for you. So keep on sweetie, your a wealth of education and fun DIY'er plus, cook, Mother and wife. We care about you "DENMAN'S". (To Long I'm sorry)

Buddy, I'm heavy into genealogy as well (doing it for well over 40 years!). I took the Ancestry DNA test, too. It said I'm 62% Irish, 54% Scottish and 4% Norwegian. Who knows? We may be kin! So far I haven't found any ancestors from Norway yet but continue to research. I had a taste of mead when visiting Bunratty Castle in Ireland many years ago. Nice to see how it's made. Great video!!!
