Pretty impressive deep dive👍🏼 As for warranty, if the tool is purchased from us on our website there is no fee for shipping. You can warranty up to 5 items on the same Submission for the $9.99 shipping fee. Alternatively the original dealer is responsible for warranties and if the purchaser no longer has access to that dealer, all dealers can and most will warranty an item if you’re purchasing something else from them. As for International Marketing & Sales: (IMS) is our private labeling business (making tools for other companies with their own brands on them). We make tools for multiple profesional companies both in the US and internationally across multiple markets (not just automotive) We are the building that was under construction in the street view. Durston/VIM had been family owned for 3 generations before my family took over in 2020. We are still very close with the previous owners and they were a big part in helping us hit the ground running. The Durston family had been making automotive tools for US companies since the 30’s. The first product was the scraper (reason for the name). Ray changed the name to Durston Manufacturing in the 40’s when they were already making tools for the automotive industry which is the reason they bought the VIM name to have their own line. Will be doing a more in depth explanation on our Tool Tuesday on our YT page if anyone is generally interested. To those who have used and enjoyed our products, Thank you for your support!

You could have just called and asked. I applied at their La Verne, Ca. facility back in 2008. They gave me a quick tour of the tool maker area. 4-5 years later from Ebay I ordered 1/4 square to 1/4 hex sockets. And I noticed it was VIM branded. From those times I would notice their products at Old School hardware stores around the area even at the Pomona classic car swap meet.

I'm from Florida, and they are headquartered here iirc. VIM has been around for longer than I've been in the industry. I started in 2003, and they were already well established back then. The thing with VIM was they were more a specialty tool company from my experience. Like when it came to compact bit drivers, that's what I mostly used them for. I'm a German auto tech, and Torx, triple square, hex bit, etc, are life on those cars. VIM always had things like long reach flex head drivers, stubby bits, and uncommon sizes in 1/4 drive which were a god send on German cars where space is a premium.

I think that $10 on the warranty is just to ward off the freeloaders that buy a tool at a yard sale and go take it back, like they did to Craftsman for years. They'll look at that once and say they aren't a victim. What I would say is test the system. See how easy it is to warranty it through the seller? Then in the event of a problem/warranty claim that the seller can't handle or it was purchased directly online, make the call to them directly and see what happens? As society has changed over the years people no longer have a problem with taking advantage of retailers that actually stand for something. So a good company will protect itself and their financial viability of how they stand behind their product. Which is they do but they're not fools. 💯💯💯

I’ve owned and used VIM tools for several years. They are actually very good tools that stand up well under every day use. I wouldn’t hesitate at all about buying them. As far as the charge for shipping a warranty claim that’s simple to understand. They want you to go through the dealer so you can develop your tool relationship needs with the seller and not directly with the company. When you are a company that sells products wholesale to distributors and retailers the last thing those businesses want is to have to compete with the manufacturer.

Forty years ago I was employed by a company in Australia who were import agents for the Vim Tool line. The invoicing company was Durston Manufacturing Co - LaVerne CA. The Vim line was not very broad, but they were leaders in Torx & Tamper Torx etc bits & sets, specialty distributor wrenches, air hammer sets etc. Their patented #VC1 Carbon Scraper was private labeled for every tool brand, both major & minor back in the day. I believe most of their business was actually private label. They were also a major source for socket rails back in that time, but I'm unsure as to whether they were manufacturing the rails & clips themselves. From my experience they were certainly a legit company all those years ago.

They have been very hot for a few years now and growing before that. They may be small, but they have been on tool trucks for a while now, they are often out of stock on their most popular items, online and through their dealers. Jeff did a deep dive on facts from the past, but little in the way where they stand now with folks interested in tools above the level of most brands on Amazon. I'm not a tool snob, I get lots of stuff from Harbor Freight and Amazon, but I also recognize quality when I see it and have plenty VIM, Mac, Snap-on, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Knipex, etcetera. All I am saying is our friend Jeff should have done some looking into the tools they sell, who sells tools for them, and been able to give us, his audience a better feel for who VIM is. Instead, he presented them as an unknown, possibly a fly by night, some company one should be careful dealing with. Ok, they aren't in the fortune 500, but they have been selling some really nice stuff for a while now. VIM gave a couple of gracious replies, as they should to a guy with 250K subscribers, good for them, shows they are classy. Where did you end up on bringing the bear back? I remember you were having computer problems, and maybe something about licensing on a newer version of the software. If the computer can be booted, have you thought about a "disk2vhd" image and load it into virtual box? I did this on an old XP machine that ran an obsolete broadcast video router, all I had to do was install the Vbox drivers and it was up and running. Alternate assumes the hard drive is still good but computer is dead. Connect the drive on a usb dock, boot Clonezilla and clone the drive. Build Vbox machine, boot from Clonezilla disk image, and restore the clone to the Vbox machine. Running it in Vbox or some other VM might give you a huge boost in performance, more RAM, faster CPU, faster graphics card, etc.
