Another great video. It's so important to see all the viewpoints without interference and interruption. The captured candour of the people tells you all you need to know. This day divides so many and for good reason, there is nothing to celebrate, not when there's so much disconnection between communities and history. The inability for people to acknowledge these issues and spend the day getting blasted while others mourn is disheartening. The indigenous people and cultures deserve better. Thanks for work!

Both sides are arguing about 2 different things. - The date is irrelevant because Australia wasn't "founded/invaded" (whatever you want to call it) on that date. So why would it matter you change the date? - Then you could make the argument that it's in "rememberance" of it being founded/invaded, which it isn't it's a day off to celebrate Australia as a country. So you don't have an argument there either. - Why not have another holiday in rememberance of the stolen generation? I'm sure nobody would object to that? Like an ANZAC day where we take a day off to remember those who've passed. If anything to people who don't care it'd just be another day off work. It's funny how easily Australia is manipulated. The protestors had photos of George Floyd, a black man from America who was killed. Something that has nothing to do with Australia except the fact he wasn't white. These protestors are looking for reasons to be mad, they're disenfranchised too.. Do you want to change the date or abolish it? Agree on 1 fucking intention and then present the argument. And then refer to my arguments above and re-asses. But it's so strange how easily Aussies are influenced by other countries. People who celebrate Australia day don't do it out of some racist dominance over Aboriginals, most people are sad about that dark history. The fact that these protestors try so hard to paint it that way is going to cause people to do that out of spite like we've seen with literally every other movement that got too out of hand.

Easy settlement. Porque la nos dos? Why not do both? 1: Set Federation Day as a day of celebration on July 1 2: Keep Jan 26 and consider it a national day of Celebration for indigenous people and their survival despite all they went through 3: make Sorry day a national public holiday.

I agree we should change the date to Jan 1st for Australia day because that was the day we become one nation when all the states were unified, I also think we should celebrate Cook on his birthday because he was one of the greatest mariners of all time and not an "invader" There are many wrongs that need to be righted but being racist towards white people does nothing but grow even MORE resentment and the whole idea about reconciliation is that BOTH sides forgive each other...
@smartcakes303 Жыл бұрын
@Fcuk Gogle you're uneducated if you think aboriginal people need to apologise. Cook invaded Australia and with the British empire deemed the land inhabitable even though my ancestors were there. They chose to not declare my people as human to claim the land for themselves. Aboriginal culture is the oldest surviving culture that we know of, hundreds and thousands of years my people lived peacefully in sync with the land. We were then invaded, killed off in the thousands. Detained, segregated, turned into slaves, an entire generation of children stolen. Our life expectancy is 20 years less than a white Australian, we're way more likely to develop terminal illnesses, we're more likely to be killed by cops, we're more likely to be targeted by racism. This was less than 250 years ago. 56 years ago our constitution changed to say aboriginal people ARE human. No where near equal opportunities yet This is not an equal blame situation, the birtish committed disgusting acts against my people. Not only have they tried to bury what they did, they've built the entire system around benefiting themselves and to push us back under the rug. We aren't asking for much, we're asking for recognition of the last pain and the pain still felt today. We want respect, an end to racism and equal opportunities and chances for our people. Of course racists can't rationalise this argument

Changing the date does nothing for the aboriginal people in rural areas. Most of them don't give a fuck, they have far bigger issues on their plate than changing a date of a holiday. If these protestors actually wanted to help, they would be donating or offering help to areas such as domestic violence/drug and alcohol abuse/youth crime.. Yet they don't do a thing because they don't really give two shits. I live near Cairns, kids as young as 10 steal cars and go on joy rides, with no punishment. The best thing you can do is give these kids guidence before they turn into life long criminals. These kids don't give a fuck about a holiday when they're not even going to school.

Australia Day was implemented officially in 1994, under the ALP under Keating. On purpose, for this very reason. For division. Prior to the Whitlam years, everyone celebrated Empire Day, and knew they were all British Subjects, including singing God save the Queen. That's the generation that finished school in the 80's and prior. It took most of the 80's & 90's for the sell off of public assets, hiring or government workers (not public servants) changing names, corporatizing things and all manner of frauds to hijack Australia our from under the Common Law. Stop bitching about what happens and start questioning why these things happen.

another fantastically informative and really well put together piece of journalism..thank you for this coverage and views of a cross section of Australia..thankyou especially for contacting indigenous elders for their views and story...as with Waitangi Day in nz its hard to celebrate the invasion and destruction of these incredible indigenous cultures..
