Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.
His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.
Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

Not entirely true, he was serious about social issues no doubt but very early on in his career he was known as a prankster. He loved joking and kidding around. You should definitely watch more of Marlon's interviews particularly when he was younger. He was really warm, personable, and kept a smile on his face!! Very flirty with women interviewers, he is a very smooth talker and charismatic! I' m definitely fascinated by him and his life.

The problem with talk show hosts then (and now) are that they listen to so many people that they begin to become reactionary in conversational nature, they essentially lose the ability to critically listen while being able to master comprehensive listening. Its one thing to comprehend what someone is saying (2+2=4), its another thing entirely to critically examine what they are implying (2+x=4). This is exactly why these shows seemed slower paced back then. People in general now are losing their ability to effectively reach conclusions about what other people are saying. They base their assumptions off of more knowledge (content) when the real answer lies in the first hand delivery.

They are nervous. Marlon is attractive , very articulate, calm , smart and happy in his own skin. He is in control of himself, it seems he is a good person so wants to help others explaining things - rather than abusing his powerful position by controlling others , which he could do - but he’s too calm and about a controlled stress free existence for that - and he seems to be very independent. they are nervous laughs from people who are the opposite - not confident and very co dependant in a crowd - they mag realise they have been living a lie too I believe and very scared about that nervously laughing at something they don’t underhand - trying to cope with the reality of Marlon’s intelligence in one way or another they are laughing at it to try to ridicule it because they are in denial and not being true to themselves and others. Some sheep just laugh because they think they are meant to on a show like this - they are incapable of thinking independently and people on high position tend to try to manipulate others and want cheap laughs - marlon seems he wasn’t like that he was just keeping it real I believe

This seems to be the 2nd half of the interview I just saw about him boycotting & declining his Academy Award on another channel & Sacheen Littlefeather being jeered & cheered at the same awards ceremony...the date is the same! But Dick’s suit is totally different. Man...is Brando right on! It’s called “Bread & Circus” (since the days of Rome)=“keep the people entertained & fed & they won’t know what the government is doing”...so they’d hoped! But Marlon Brando wasn’t going to let that happen...he boycotted & declined his award to make a statement that there’s too much false propaganda concerning not only the Native Americans, but all not whites on TV!-his words, from the other interview!
