What an absolute legend. He was a genuine Renaissance Man. Talentedin everything! Oh the dancing & singing. And the mimicry was tremendous! No one like that today.

Miss the late great multi talented, funny and witty Danny Kaye so much who also had his own TV show! He was brilliant, a genius with accents, comedic timing, singing along with doing dramas as well as comedy. And a great humanitarian. Unbelievable and unfortunate that so many younger people and kids today don't even know who he was! Another super star from the Golden Age of Hollywood that we should never forget! May they both rest in peace~

I'm very young (17) and in no way able to say I was alive anywhere near his time or era but God I wish I was, I love watching his works and pictures and I adore listening to his interviews and best bits while I work. Him, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Donald O. Connor - or even going further back to the original legend, Buster Keaton! I love listening to his bits, they never fail to lift my day. even now, as Im cramming for finals and end of the year projects, listening to some interviews of his are really helping in keeping me going. I love his mayhem and chaos.

@@raoularmagnac2037 thank you so much for your kind words!! I can't help but find it sad that my peers seldom find the appeal in these sorts of film. Man, I really truly wish I wasn't the only one of my age group that knows and loves these classics. everyone nowadays finds humor and entertainment in grotesque vulgarities and fail to see just how golden classic comedy can truly be. I hope to help keep these old golds as remembered as possible as time goes on. God bless you friend, have a good day/night!

Me too! I just re-watched "The Court Jester" a few days ago, love it now more than ever. My ex hated him, so I wasn't allowed to have DVDs or watch any of his movies for those 15 years. I memorized all the songs from "Hans Christian Anderson" as a child from listening to the album so many times. The ex got so angry when he found out those songs I was singing (that his grandkids loved) were from Danny Kaye! What kind of person could hate Danny?? I miss those grandkids, but I haven't missed my ex for even one moment. Guess I need to find some kids who would appreciate a surrogate grandma who sings and acts out "The Ugly Duckling" song with all the sound effects, lol.

Very few entertainers deserve the title of legend. Danny Kaye was a legend.

I recognize the word legend as something like John Henry or Johnny Appleseed. I do not even see a legend as possibly true. "Legend has it..." I think that's as far as respectful stretch as you can get if something is legendary. We have all this footage online regarding Danny Kaye and all these other brilliant people. I'll say this about Mr. Danny Kaye. He was imo a rare kind of performer out of a select few that could accomplish or be as talented as he was. His actual shows people bought tickets for, included an _orchestra._ How much of a treat is that regarding a comedian of all people? I think his life should inspire many others.

Wonderman was the first Danny Kaye movie I saw. Rented it at the video store back in the 80s because I mistakenly thought it was a superhero movie due to the title. 10 minutes into the movie, I was literally rolling in laughter and drumming my heels on the floor, became a fan ever since.

After Danny Kaye's movie career died he turned to TV in the 1960s. His TV show ran from 63-67 but he got a horrible reputation as a man who was difficult to work with. The Carol Burnett Show ran from 1967-1978 but he was about the only major performer she never had on because his reputation preceded him. One of his last appearances was on The Twilight Zone in 1985 where he was so difficult that the people on the show shuddered at the memory as he acted like he was supposed to be treated like the super star he was 30 years before.

There was a shocking rumor going round Hollywood at the time that Danny Kaye was having or had a secret love affair with Laurence Olivier Did you see his face when Dick said about Danny and Laurence being able to do the same hight voice? Danny seemed to freeze at the mention of Laurence's name. Out of all the people to bring up..... Makes you wonder if that was dicks plan to try and get a reaction or to see where it goes
@WaterShowsProd4 жыл бұрын
Their affair was kept very quiet until after both actors died. I'm sure there were people who must have known, but as Kaye was one of the most revered performers in Hollywood and Olivier was the most revered actor in the world, it was kept out of public knowledge. When Cavett compared his and Olivier's voices I thought it was very interesting. Olivier of course was still alive at that time.

I briefly met Danny Kaye in Melbourne at a charity function I was invited to. Before he spoke, someone made an announcement that Kaye would not be signing any autographs. At one stage he was sitting on a chair & no-one was talking to him, so I approached him, but rather stupidly instead of asking for an autograph I said to him ' Is it correct you are not signing autographs? '. He said ' That's correct . so I walked away. As a youngster I guess I wasn't very aggressive.
