I wish that I had more time with mine. Grandma Beals left us before I became an adult. Grandma Flack lived to a decent old age, but I didn't get to see either of them much, as my parents moved 500 miles away for work when my father started his career after college. I never got to meet Grandpa Beals - he died when I was still in the womb - and my other grandfather died when I was but a young boy, prior to my entering kindergarten.

Yummy. I've never heard them called Floddies. My Nana just called them griddled fritters .The only difference in the recipe was that she used green onions in hers. You are right. The egg yolk makes them extra yummy.

Potato pancakes! That is what my mom called them. She made them just like yours but without the bacon. We ate them with sour cream for dinner. My mom is from Eastern Europe. These are so delicious. I love the idea of adding crisped bacon and serving with an egg. Oh man, now I want to make some. Thanks Dinner Lady

Looks like the rostis I make, but without the bacon. The bacon looks a fab addition especially when cooked first like you did. I'll have to get cooking them againn, yum.

They looked and sounded really tasty, super crunchy, and I agree with you about flabby bacon. Then when you dipped it in the egg yolk, well, that just took it to a different level altogether. Gotta make these Mandy!

Never apologise for sharing your memories of your nanna Amanda. I lost my beloved nanna in 89 and I still miss her. All my cooking skills are down to her and my dad. She brought me up and I have such happy memories. I absolutely was so jealous of you taste testing tonight. We have a similar thing here in Ireland that we make with mashed potato but these look delicious and definitely going to try them. Thank you so much for sharing and keep your childhood memories coming as I love hearing about them ❤

I am not the biggest fan of pancakes at supper time, so for Shrove Tuesday, I always make potato pancakes, or latkes, which are very similar, without the bacon. Watching your videos got me onto white pepper. Hadn't had it since I was a child at my Nanny's and I've really enjoyed using it. Food has so much emotion, comfort and nostalgia attached. Thanks 💜

Mand this brought back a memory for me years ago when my 2 children were only 6 and 8 yrs old my husband had been played off work for the 4 or 5th time and times were hard so like you I also cooked and would make do and mend then one day I looked in the larder and all I had was 1/2 an onion some potatoes some corned beef an egg and obviously flour and I had never heard of hash browns of foodies but I had been speaking earlier to a nieghbour who told me her grandma was Hungarian so when I served them up with chips and beans for tea I was asked what were they called and I said quite casually o these are Hungarian pancakes 😂 and so my family still call them that today I also make them with bacon I have added cheese or what ever I had going spare they are delicious thanks for sharing xxx Elaine

Nana's and Gran's recipes are memorable. Sadly, my grandma died over sixty years ago, but her youngest-my dad-had enough nouse to whip her recipe books before his older brothers grabbed them. The strangest-named recipes are often excellent; most never truly weighed, but all are created with love. I had lunch with my gran on a Wednesday; she always made jam-streamed pudding. A bowl, a pot of water, jam and flour, some greaseproof paper and all on a coal range! She huffed and puffed her way about the kitchen and hardly ever used electrical appliances!... grandma's family came from Huddersfield... Nostalgia... I shall try Bacon Floddy's tonight...
