I ring in the new year with some bodywork and primer on the Mustang II project, then we hit the road in Mom's Spaghetti for some amazing 4 wheelin on a friends farm land. Great fun was had with good friends. And some really cool old iron.
special thanks to :
‪@SummitRacing‬ on the paint and body supplies
‪@eastwoodco‬ for making a great air compressor
AJ for the help in the shop.
Brandon and Kindrick for showing us around the amazing farm land and letting us beat up our rigs.

Been doing bodywork for over 30yrs, hate being on the knees, love the fact you've got a lift to save your back. Lol. If you want to save your carpal tunnel from the vibration of your air tools. Get a manual board, put some 36 grit on it, and carv that bondo when it's soft. When it starts to set up, and you can just barely sink your thumb in it, start carving. It'll shave down so fast, you'll be done sanding in less then 5 minutes. Once done let it set up all the way, and all you'll need at that point is a skim coat to cover your 36grit scratches. Been doing it for years, it's what brings home the bacon

18:14 This sounds like a roll axis problem. If the roll axis isn't flat the axle will twist some as the body rolls (roll steer) and this will induce some under or over steer. For the rear axle this is why a negative roll axis (angle tilted down towards the center of the vehicle from the rear) is more stable/predictable (induces understeer). As you turn, the axle twists slightly to counter the turn (crab walking), so the actual amount of steering the truck experiences is less than the steering input - that is understeer. If the angle was positive (sloped up to the right in the side view) then roll reaction to the steering input would cause the vehicles to oversteer, or steer more than the steering wheel input would imply, and it would only happen after the vehicle has rolled so it would be delayed relative to steering input. As it rolls you would need to reduce the steering input slightly if the axle tended to oversteer. For the front, I think the same understeer inducing roll axis angle would again be pointed down towards the center of the vehicle. This would make the angle positive in the side view. The four link calculators mostly show a negative angle value as inducing understeer in both the front and rear axles, but I don't think that is correct. www.pirate4x4.com/threads/roll-axis-angle-question-front-vs-rear-3-link.1997418/post-45038024

Another great episode. Been following you since DED started--I like your casual/real style and really appreciate the fabrication that you do. I dig the Mustang II but it would be GREAT to see you get the Mercury on the road. This one on bodywork reminds me why I have been watching more of the 'just get it running' shows like Roadkill Garage, Vice Grip Garage, and DD Speed Shop---bodywork sucks! Saying that, though, I get why you are doing it on the Mustang--it is not quite cool enough to be cool as a really rough driver, but it will be way cool with a paint job. Anyway--keep up the great work and thanks!

I to get caught up in the videos on Facebook… particularly the one where the dudes are outside in the dirt, rebuilding a diesel engine with homemade tools and less than adequate parts..all while rocking flip flops 😂 also ones that are welding cast iron spindles on big dump truck axles are baffling….it sucks me in every time! Anytime you can get out wheelin with friends is a good time! Nice work bud!

Awesome! Thanks for bringing us a long. Great progress man. I wonder if you asked that friend about the drivers quarter window trim you couldn't get loose? I saw yall work around it. Nice seeing all those fords and fun out there. That reminds me I have or had a Brick nose F150, she was green and gold, 302. At the time I lived way out and couldn't afford the gas and parked it. Dad took it back and parked it at his garage. Hard to tell if it has made it or not. Great truck though.

My jeep was really twitchy and I felt like it was being steered in the rear like you described. I’m not a front end guy but I have played around with caster a bunch and it’s a lot more stable with more caster. You probably are way ahead of me but I’m just throwing it out there. Dave Try different loads in the bed of Spaghetti and see if weight makes it better or worse then put weight on one side and see how it effects turn then opposite side. Just wondering if a traction bar kit would help also along with a sway bar kit. Or can you fix it with adding 100 lb over each wheel?
