I live in the area, been on the course many times over the past 6 years. This course is brutal. It's exactly what this sport needs. Other courses have seemed to get easier (or players have gotten better), and seeing players shoot -13 is getting boring. It's given members of our club full-time jobs improving the course. I can't wait to see what Nick has in store over the next couple of years. It has insane potential and could very well host a worlds in the future.

So much gatekeeping on here. PM didn’t just outlaw free public park courses. We all love them for the charm of playing in a janky public space and I’m sure that PM and the pros do as well. There are MORE courses than ever that are free and public. The 9 hole course in my town just got completely overhauled by the city which is awesome. There is also room for a higher end product. There will be a handful of courses that are at this level where the public can come pay to see what it’s like to play at a high end manicured course. Bravo to everyone involved.

I got to say, this is a genius idea by Paul. If there was a country club for disc golf around me in New Jersey I would definitely join. Anyone that is annoyed by having to pay to get on, doesn't mind waiting all day for slow players. I look at this golf as exercise, I would gladly spend a couple dollars to play faster rather than wait behind a guy pushing a baby, with his two children

You know even in public parks, you can always ask someone to play through, I mean if they are slow and don't ask you to play through they are probably new and don't know etiquette.

Excited to see you there, Nick! There is a place for this kind of course which I didn't see at firstwhen noticing the rapid commercialization of disc golf. I am excited to hear what they are doing to the property. I do not want disc golf to go completely commercial with all pay to play courses, but I would like good property to be saved and diveloped for this use. Commercial properties will play a (big?) part in this. I want free to play courses to continue and thrive, so dont get me wrong, and as the sport grows I trust more will be developed. That is where the disc golf base is. Sad thing is, I dont think I will ever be good enough to really appreciate a course like Olympus through play, but am glad there are courses being created to challege this and the next generation of top players (and those somewhat??? near the top...lol) and excited to spectate and even volunteer in the future!

privatizing shouldn't be the norm. I understand some places need it, but I think that should be for rescue purposes, not the norm. one of the biggest allures to this sport is that it is free and conforms to the landscape.
@deanfaircloth39168 ай бұрын
It’s a unique layout. It fits the mold for Paul McBeth, who doesn’t like golf course to disc golf conversions. That being said the DGPT should put their foot down against substandard tee pads. Golfers were slipping around all weekend. They should be glad nobody was injured. I know this was a quick turnaround, but there should be standards and expectations met in regards to tee pads and player safety.

I totally get the advancement of the sport but in a way am also saddened that it has put many courses out of reach for a lot of folks due to the access charges. My local course [which I was a large part of developing and building back in the day] is in a state park. Cost is very reasonable at $8 per day per vehicle or $36 per year for that vehicle and it's occupants. I sincerely hope we can move forward and still include those that might not necessarily have the monetary means but still truly enjoy the sport.

There will always be public park courses for beginners and poor people. That said, the harsh reality is that if you can't afford $25-50 to play a round of disc golf, you can't afford to be playing disc golf at all - you should instead be working a second job or increasing the value of your labor.
@dehavendiscgolf8 ай бұрын
@@Rew123You’re smoking it bro, disc golf is nowhere near $25-50 a round that’s absolutely ridiculous. I played golf the first half of my life and $20-30 was normal but still expensive. @@leafhatonthetrail1038 yeah and maybe I want a little profit for the work I put into my course. So what, you have to pay. You have to pay for a lot of things in life. Those discs weren't free. Where I live most of the courses are pay to play because there is very little public land. It averages $7 to $10 a round and $10 to $12 a day. That isn't a lot to ask for for well-maintained courses. Most courses where I live also have clubhouses on them where you can buy discs, accessories, clothes etc. And most of those are helping out small businesses and families. There's a reason why Lewiston/ Auburn Maine and the surrounding area has been voted the number one disc golf destination by uDisc multiple years. I've been to free courses. Some are absolutely amazing, and some are not. Or you have to pay to get into the park which ended up being more expensive than what I pay for a round anyway... Like borderland in Massachusetts is 20 bucks just for me to park there. I can play Maple Hill cheaper than that.

Private disc golf? Yuck! It’s that kind of elitist mentality that creates entry barriers for new players, just look at golf. It’s one of the biggest issues of US golf. All the best venues are private and most people will never get the opportunity to experience the greatest locations. In Scotland, most of the very best courses are able to be played by anyone. Considering the clientele of disc golf (mostly young, blue collar people) privatized disc golf is simply incompetent. We need to stop trying to make disc golf more like golf, they’re two separate markets with very different consumers.
