The reality that most wild animals don’t live as long as those in captivity because of natural predators and possibly not catching enough food is just a reality that animal rescuers are aware of. Regardless of whether you’re a regular person rescuing a baby squirrel or raccoon, or you’re a full fledged rehabber that works with a group like this. Doesn’t mean they’re less enthusiastic about helping animals.

A lot of people keep saying that she was most likely killed after being released because of being in captivity. Here are reasons why I think she had just as good as a chance as any other seal in the wild. 1. She was only in captivity for 3 months. That’s not really enough time to remove all of her survival instincts. I’m sure it would be slightly difficult to adjust to the new living conditions but would probably revert back to her wild behavior in maybe a week. 2. The care takers did not hand feed her. She had to catch her meal. She probably developed enough skill to catch fish in an more open environment. 3. She lived with other seals for 2 months. She most likely picked up on social skills and swimming techniques. Not to mention she pretty much took it over only being in their for hours. 4. It’s Cloudberry! You can’t mess with her. The only criticism I have is that they didn’t released her in the Neatherlands. Probably not the best spot to drop her off.

Honestly, thats wishful thinking on your part. It's highly unlikely that she survived the journey to the Atlantic after being in captivity for that period of time. Most seals don't survive in the open once they have been in captivity for a prolonged amount of time.

Ok for you folks getting upset in the comment section, these are some facts to keep your heart at ease. 1) Seals are NOT taught by their mother’s to fish. Young seals must learn on their own, and their instincts guide them. 2) Ringed seals are solitary seals, they only gather in groups to molt. 3) Weaned pups are very independent, and she is plenty old enough to be on her own. 4) Ringed seals are some of the most abundant seals in the world. They are tough little seals and are not in any more danger than any of the other seals in the ocean, including the other seals at the rehab. 5) The seal would’ve suffered more from being kept in that hot climate than being released into the wild. 6) Don’t underestimate animal’s internal compasses. They don’t need a map to get where they need to go like humans do. They have survived for millions of years on their own intuition
