I have studied 3 styles, 15 yrs Wing Chun, around the same in WTF TKD reaching 3rd dan and now at 67 I am studying Shotokan. Great Martial artists transcend styles, this guy is a great martial artist. A 9th dan once told me in a personal training session that martial arts are 80% the same, the 20% difference is in the techniques of the style the 80% that remains is all about relaxation and breathing. I did not understand then, I do now!

So much control. There is so much art that those who lack patience will never learn & will never teach. The speed & efficiency is to be envied. It’s beautiful to see that some people would rather teach & learn, rather than to risk injuries or make compromises based on points.

Of course I can also see that Bertel has good physical qualities. However, I cannot follow the enthusiasm of many people who think that they confuse this with actual effectiveness in a real fight. Would Bertel know how to do these things against a well trained fighter in Thaibox or MMA? Or can he only do them with pupils who (between fear and respect) do not really attack?

The constant struggle of people comparing consensual violence and non consensual violence. We don't need to show our skills in a ring. Thats why we (the traditionalists) don't go there. This stuff is supposed to cripple or kill. No one wants that unless it's necessary.
@shotokar42113 жыл бұрын
@@DavidYeomans-d6z Whether or not a violent attack is consensual or not does not touch the question of whether Bertell's techniques really work or whether it is a consensual spectacle. I am 6 Dan of Karate Shotokan (direct student of Shinan Hiroshi Shirai) but also MMA Instructor and I believe what I SEE. in Bertell's video we SEE first of all that all "attackers" are NOT attackers. In fact, the latter are violent, unpredictable, they attack with the utmost energy, they don't want to be hit but hit and hurt, etc. etc. And you tell me that I have to believe that you do not enter the ring because they are too dangerous? In addition to all this, I have not talked about "Ring" or a sporting match. These are HER words from her. I talked about combat and real verification.

Claire Speight Boxing would have a chance with hand speed,ducking etc. But Karate has kicking,throwing and locking as in style and proficiency. Karate can beat boxing but this video is just them practicing and training slowly also a boxer can throw as many punches as he wants but the karate guy can block fast attack and knock out in reality karate is fast when you are past red belt. Boxing is great but it’s not used for street if that makes sense it’s for the ring kind off but karate can be both but mainly for defence so it’s nice to see other people’s opinion but boxing wouldn’t stand karate maybe wing chun but not karate

Karate ist nicht veraltet. Es gibt gute Lehrer und schlechte Lehrer, sowie gute und schlechte Schüler. Das wichtigste ist, Karate ist wie alle Kampfkünste sehr Zeitaufwendig. Man erlernt keine Kampfkunst innerhalb weniger Wochen.
