The green tree at 2:40 is a Myrtlewood. It's a member of the Laurel family, but VERY RARE to be growing in the UK. That has to be VERY WET soil. They grow on the banks of the Rogue River in Oregon USA natively. People try to get them to grow everywhere because the leaves smell of mixed sweet spices. My channel has several videos documenting that tree. It's a VERY expensive tree when it gets to merchantable size. I mean BIG money. Our state even has special rules for harvesting it because it's an amazing watershed tree then helps to clean and purify water.

I would go for three faults with it, no rungs inside so anyone falling in can't climb out, the lid is too lightweight for an area with vehicle traffic and the lid isn't secure enough that casual fiddling can expose a deep pit. Maybe I'm missing a requirement for deep drain markings on the lid or outside the drain as well.

It's interesting how many U.K. sewer systems (drop pipes, soil pipes, gully's) are located outside the house or on the outside of the house. Everything over here in Canada is buried underground with very few access points. All drop/soil pipes are inside the house inside a "wet wall" and connect directly into the mains. If it wasn't like that here all the sewer pipes would freeze in the winter when it regularly hits -10 to -30 celcius.
@jetter1jem9553 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing info 👍👍 very interesting
@margreetanceaux39062 жыл бұрын
Same in the Netherlands; all these outside pipes would be unthinkable, only rainwater drainage goes on the outside.
@realburglazofficial26132 жыл бұрын
It’s usually because our sewer system is older than the houses attached to them. Because of their age, our sewers need more maintenance than most, so it’s easier to have access outside the houses so we aren’t having to remove walls to fix problems. Canadian houses, newer builds, newer sewer systems, less likelihood of problems.
@GGigabiteM2 жыл бұрын
@@realburglazofficial2613 It's as you said, the Georgian/Victorian era houses were built before toilets were common, but the pipes being on the outside of the building is because of cost, not because of ease of access. To properly internally plumb one of those houses, you'd have to tear out large sections of walls, floors and ceilings to get access to the sub floors and wall space. Then there's the additional risk of having to modify the structure of the house if beams block pipe paths, such construction can quickly run into the tens of thousands of dollars. Drilling a hole in the side of the house and running pipe externally is far cheaper and less invasive when retrofitting an existing building.
@realburglazofficial26132 жыл бұрын
@@GGigabiteM also, Victorian era houses had flushing toilets on the outside, usually at the bottom of the yard. So a lot of the manholes are probably the original site of the toilet. Newer built houses have ‘built for purpose’ complete sewer systems, whereas in a lot of cities in the UK there are many different sewer systems from different decades tacked on to each other.

@@issadraco532 Hey, you saying " very very young child or a really old person"' don't matter and are not worthy of protection from hazards like that? Very inadequate cover for a start... a car wheel over it and it cracks. Next someone falls in. Fall down that and you would break 2 legs... and so your escape plan fails.
@jonka12 жыл бұрын
@@issadraco532 Firstly the cover was very close to giving way due to corrosion. Second it was a very lightweight cover which if disturbed by a wheel could have partly collapesd. Thirdly I doubt if you would go to such crazy lengths to be try and be right about something if a child of yours had lifted the lid out of curiosity and fallen in. I also doubt that you would be so clever if you were the owner of such a cover when a child or anyone had slashed their ankle in the dark on your badly maintained cover that had not needed to be replaced because you are NEVER wrong about anything.
