A few years back Gem and I (may have been Joe) were discussing this situation (first clean up). A friend of mine who is a plumber down south came up with the theory that they are seeing more blockages on these older homes due to people taking more showers and less baths. He thinks that the drains are not being cleared with the volume of water a bath gives.

Was thinking that a combination of poor gradient and water saving flushes could be a problem, since the sewers aren't built to cope with sometimes ½ the water for a Big flush and then it would collect in a manhole just like this 🤮 Big THANKS for sharing your daily work 😃 Simply love this channel
@missym00757 ай бұрын
That first one, the flushes looked minimal, how much trouble do you think those "low flow eco flush" type toilets cause?

I live in the States. I need educated on the workings of sewer systems in England. Are there really above ground sewage pathways? Over here all of our municiple areas carry sewage through underground pathways/pipes, etc. Not accessible to the public. Obviously plumbers, cleaners, etc can but that's their job. As I watch these videos I can't help but think it must smell pretty horrible every day with all that sewage being so close to the top of the earth where ppl live. Please educate me a bit, so a layman can understand, how your waste sytem works. Thanks. Oh, and hats off to you gentlemen who have the constitution to tolerate all that ick! Seriously, why do you choose that as a career? 3IM honestly asking because I can't imagine as a child you thought pushing everyones shit through the city was your first choice for a job!! Lol.
