Whenever he makes the transition to "...baaj gayo dankaa", it appeals to something very primal within me, like tapping into some deep historical consciousness I didn't realise was there.

Very true. Interesting observation. For me, Danka and Lanka rhymes and Danka is used so creatively to transition to Lanka at the sum of the taal. That's the uniqueness of the artist and also the fellows who continue when he is quiet.

I am so delighted that he chooses to sing this. I don't know why we Pakistanis tend to try and distance ourselves from our rich and glorious culture of the Indian sub-continent. This may well be a Hindu Bhajan but this music isn't Hindus or Muslim. This is our culture and what our ancestors have been contributing to for centuries and centuries. Masterfully done Ustad sb. More of this, please

It's a treat to hear his Soulful singing. Little surprising to find pure shastriya sangeet gayak from Pak. His initial words that "Ram-Sita ki kahani hai, uss jamane me to sb gaa lete the, koi masla nahi tha" hv many deep meanings for those who understand. Thnx a lot for all ur efforts to bring forward all these Pakistani jewels whose performances have found so many fans/subscribers like me here in India too. 🙏💐😊

The way he says "pehle to sab gaaya karte the koi masla nahi tha" makes me think where this fight for religious identities has bring us , just dividing people and culture further. Still i appreciate how he still is trying to bring people together with music. For. Few days. I was so attracted to the voice of Shri Ustad Saami Sahib. that. Just kept doing manana and manana on voice. As to what is so pulling in voice. KEPT ON AND ON AND ON. WAS NOT ABLE TO JUSTIFY IN PROPER WORDS. TODAY MORNING AFTER LISTENING. WORDS HAPPENED. THERE ARE SOME VOICES WHERE ELIMINATION OF TIME HAPPENS. INSTEAD OF TIME SPACE HAPPENS. WHEN SAAMI SAHIB SINGS SADRA. ITS STRAIGHT OUT OF BRAHMAND. SAAMI SAHIB. RIGHT NOW SHRI RAM JI HAS SENT US VERY FAR FROM YOU THERE ARE SEVEN SEAS BETWEEN US. BUT A DESIRE HAS HAPPENED. IN JEEV. TO MEET SHRI RAM. SO LET US SEE WHEN THIS GONA HAPPEN. WE BOW AT YOUR FEET MASTER. LOVE YOU.

@@Harjeetpsbajaj bhai we have been asked the same by several people from India. Sadly it is not easy for a person of Pakistani origin to travel to India. We do not get visas easily. Otherwise I do know quite a few lessor known artists who certainly deserve to be recorded and who would make substantial contributions to the world of HCM and poetry. Many have treasures that should be preserved with love and dedication.

Providing the context for The Dream Journey family here. As per my research and a reply I got from a fine soul (Ms. Wajiha Athar Naqvi), this particular bandish refers to a story from the Ramayan when Ram goes on war to rescue his wife Sita held captive by Ravan in Lanka." Although, I am unable to get the lyrics line by line , I have done a loose translation of a few lines: Lanka Charho Raam Ram march/marched to Lanka Jeet gayo, garh saban He conquered all forts Dhoom machi jag main baaj gayo danka The world became enthralled with his victory, his victory garnered immense praise. I hope the family will correct me If I am wrong and provide the complete meaning for the bandish. How impatiently I was waiting for this treat. I knew it in my heart that The Dream Journey would find him and ask him to perform this. Sami shb is a window to the music genres of past with in their utmost purity. Have been listening to this since the day I discovered this. I feel so glad that his sons are exceptionally versed in their family's art. This is one of the best Adana people will ever get to hear! Eternally grateful towards The Dream Journey, as always.

Very sensitive rendition! However, I wish there was sarangi accompaniment instead. I often find the sound of the harmonium very intrusive and distracting in classical music, but this was especially apparent in this recording. If possible, please arrange it so that there is a sarangiya instead in future recordings. The sound of sarangi just can't be replaced. Thank you for all your hard work!
