My Grandfather, Patrick Shanley, from Raheny in Dublin, taught Barney McKenna how to play this tune. My Grandfather played the accordion and Barney would visit the house to learn the tune. God Bless you Granda Father ❤️ Never forgotten..

I was the weird kid at school in the 80s for listening to this type of music. The Dubliners were my Dad's favourite group and we watched 'the boys' dozens of times. Fantastic memories, awesome musicians

Two wonderful musicians, often looked down upon by the trad music purists but they and the rest of the Dubliners brought the old music to the people, they reinvigorated the old tunes and ballads and paved the way for the fantastic following that trad music has today. We will forever be indebted to them!

Sheahan is pretty handy, Barney, is too. Sheahan tells a story about his first week with the band as a pro, having quit a 9-5 job. Barney and Ronnie got into a first fight. He was worried about what he had gotten into. But Bobby Lynch told John not to worry. "They do that every other week ". ;)

The guitar solo on Black Rose is fantastic, but it really doesn't feature The Mason's Apron, despite the credits on the album. Pat McManus - who can play Black Rose on guitar and this version of The Mason's Apron on guitar - will tell you this also.
