I know a lot of folks will disagree--but I thought Tina really was at her best with Ike. I know Ike was a total scumbag--but MAN, the Ike and Tina Revue just KILLED it!! In 1969 The Rolling Stones signed them on to open for them during a major US tour. After 7 performances they let them go because the Ike and Tina Revue blew the Stones AWAY--blew em' off the stage!! Their egos couldn't handle it--so they got the boot. (And this is when the Stones were in their PRIME--THAT shows you how dynamic the Ike and Tina Revue was--AMAZING!!)

This version is next level unbelievably awesome. It is so touching to me that when Tina left that monster Ike, one of her backup dancers (I can't remember her name, but I know she had a TV show about her restaurant) would always make sure Tina had enough money to eat, etc. when Tina was at a really low point. It made Tina cry, remembering what her friend did for her, when Tina had nothing to offer her back. That is female friendship at it's best. Be a girl's girl, it will always pay off spiritually and materially.

Back in the late 60s when I was going to the University of Arkansas (67 or 68) the University had this spring fling and one night Ike & Tina performed. The stage was TINY! But Tina and the Ikettes were up there doing their bit. During a break one of the Ikettes asked a male student to zip up her dress in back. I'm not sure exactly what happened, suddenly she whirled around and said "HEY!" and laughed. I assume that he copped a feel. I've never told anyone this story. I bet he remembers this though. Next time I saw them was at the Newport Jazz Festival where they sang Proud Mary.

+ Meeka 81 You can tell they were athletic. But they were young too and they kept rehearsing quite often. Plus Ike used to say things like: " you miss a step today, you'll be frying fish tomorrow ! "

These ladies were the BEST and originals at raising our heartbeats and moving our feet!! I remember watching them in person in 1967 and wanting thighs like Tina Turner, so I danced my heart out in the 60s and 70s and grew my own. What a show she and her girls put on. Riveting. Great times.
