Top 10 Best Normal Monsters in YuGiOh

Now since normal monsters on their own are kind of bad, and none of their stats really matter very much for them to see play based on their own merits, the way I'll be determining the cards for this list, is simply if they've seen play in competitive meta-decks that have top events, which is a really good unit of measurement for deciding which of these are actually good or not.

His reasoning for why Exodia cards are limited is just flat out wrong. They are limited for lore reasons, since Exodia is supposed to be this legendary monster and there's only one of him so Konami didn't want people to include 3 copies of him in their decks. MAYBE having 3 copies would've been problematic balance wise in the early days of the game (though I don't think so), but definitely not today. In fact even if he was unlimited including 3 copies of each card would be a terrible idea since the individual pieces are dead cards and including 15 dead cards instead of actual useful cards that allow you to draw your combo pieces makes the deck inconsistent to the point of uselessness. Drawing 3+ pieces in your opening hand would not be terrible unlikely and would likely instantly cost you the game. Exodia is absolutely not limited for balance reasons, Exodia decks aren't meta, let alone broken, nor would they be if he was unlimited

@@Nobody-su9km If my card game I invent tends towards turtling and building strong defenses in a negative way, the game isn't broken and pointless to play just because of that. There are ways to tweak it and try to make other styles of play viable in the meta. If a specific set of cards make it super easy to turtle and build defenses in a truly bad way that by design is unfun to play against, that's broken and shouldn't be played. There's an important difference.

Giga Gagagigo was a pretty popular normal for a while as it was a 5 star water monster with 2450 attack, and when "A Legendary Ocean" was on the field, he became a 4 star 2650. A pretty damn strong card for no summon requirement.

I like your idea. But because it a trap it can be use in your hand. So like in the pepe format it was a main deck/side deck. Also for like pendulum deck it does help stop anti-spell. But there are cards that were made because of banlist. Like lightning vortex.

A little more information: Galaxy Serpent is also used because it can be discarded with Cards of Consonance. Hunter Dragon was used a lot with Cyberdark years ago, for being the strongest level 3 or lower dragon-type monsters. Megalomasher X is actually used a lot in a rogue deck with Phantasm Spirals, even more than in pure Dinosaur decks.

I checked out that is no longer possible to cheat out smasher X with the effect of rescue rabbit, to xyz summon into bahamut shark and use its effect to cheat out water type xyz monster directly from the extradeck (but without any xyz material when it's summoned with this method, problem solved with no°75 for example)

I'm 30, and collected Yugioh cards back when they first came out, and I love watching these videos! I haven't played in 15 years, so most of these cards are new to me, and so are a lot of these rules. Funny things over noticed, it seems like most of the cards have a more anime art style, where as the first few series of cards had a much more Magic the gathering art style.

I'd like to extend an honorable mention to Gunkan Suship Shari, a 2000ATK Normal Monster that is the lynchpin for an entire archetype that's extremely fun to play. Konami had to release a card whose primary effect is to change its own name to "Gunkan Suship Shari" specifically to give you six-of capability!

Even Rush Duels has effect monsters as the boss monsters. The normal monsters are just there to be tribute fodder for you to finish your opponent of with Sevens Road Magician or some other effect monster. The Rush version of Blue-Eyes White Dragon is limited to one per deck so you can't even rely on that for a boss much.

@@ianr.navahuber2195 The Gemini stuff in SR Warrior's Strike was pretty good, but not enough to be competitive and it's already been dropped in favor of the Flame Noble Knight theme to better support the FIRE Warrior cards. Gemini decks have a lot of pretty decent support, like Catalyst Field, but it's just not enough to even make them a slightly decent rouge deck from what I have seen. There was a pretty decent Normal Pendulum deck that used Rescue Rabbit to get a bunch of Xyz plays, but it died with the current Master Rules.

Even then Shock master stopped 1 type of cards monster, spell or traps you can still play through it in a decent deck evenly matched or any card that tributes it, is a counter measure.However number 86 has no counter play except 1 card that is inherently a brick. When you said it is unlikely to get 5 materials to abuse it that is also not true right now because of new link monsters like union carrier you can with ease get 6 materials using ANY 4 monsters in mr5 and 4 designated extra deck spaces. Which makes the card even more broken than ever before.

Your channel got me interested in yugioh again, i'm 26 in 4 days but haven't played yugioh since i was 11, so 15 years. About 15 mins ago i opened a structure deck, the spirit charmer one (i remember the 4 original ones, water, fire, earth and my favourite - wind from when i played as a kid) and a few other cards i bought loose, 2 of the link charmers, Lyna the light charmer, mirror force, monster reborn and still waiting for a few more to come in the post. I was very happy that i got the alternate art of Wynn the Wind charmer as my ultra rare, i would of been happy with any, and the water charmer is my 2nd favourite, but very happy i got the one i wanted. Now i just have to learn what Tuner, Synchro, Link, Pendulum, XYZ and some of the other new types of monsters do as back in my day of playing games and even competing in official tournaments (best i ever did was semifinals, would regularly make it to quaterfinals) there was only Fusion and Ritual monsters, banishing cards was called 'remove from play' i even remember when magic cards were changed to spell cards. Elemental Heroes were the latest hot shit and i remember getting the first 2 structure decks that ever came out. Hell my intro to yugioh was the Starter Deck: Kaiba and some Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon boosters. Got the Yugi, Joey and Pegasus decks too, and remember watching the first few episodes of the anime on British TV (I would catch a lot of the anime, but remember it was on when i was at school i think or there was some other reason i couldn't see it all the time) i was a pokemon fan too, but i never got into the pokemon anime that much as a kid, but i loved the yugioh one. I've never felt old (and i'm not at 25/26) but saying 'damn i haven't played this in 15 years! and remembering when the enitre card game was first released in Europe (2001?) Sure makes you feel old. I remember loving the Metal Raiders (i think that was the name?) set which was one of the first ever released, and the Legacy of Darkness and Pharonic Guardian (had to double check the name of Pharonic Guardian, for some reason i thought the set was called Pharoh's Judgement) sets, so damn cool saving up my pocket money and buying booster packs at £3 & £4 (I don't even know how much they are now, but the shop i buy manga and pokemon cards from sells them, when lockdown ends i'll be sure to pop in and pick up the latest packs and whatever else is the dog's bollocks. Shame i don't see any of the people i used to play against back then anymore, but i have some friends who said they would be game to start with me too, and one of them is a reliable guy and his word means something to me, so i'll certainly have at least 1 opponent :) I'm real happy that youtube reccomended your channel to me, especially considering it reccomended a video about the early days of yugioh, i wouldn't of watched a video on the modern game then, but i will now as i've rediscovered a old hobby i used to love so damn much, and i was actually really good at. Another additional thing about Galaxy Serpent. It's LIGHT Attribute was relevant back when Brilliant Fusion was around, since you could add it to hand off of Gem-Knight Lazuli, and use your Extra Normal Summon via Seraphinite to go into various Extra Deck plays. Chosen by the World Chalice is also an E-Tele target, which is relevant.

Shiny Black C lets you go plus 3 too with Giant Ballpark and can be a disruption thanks to Gokipole and all the generical insect support. Also Gem-Knight Garnet which was so used that it forged a slang term in Yugi by itself

Absolutely. My favorite use of ballpark is it's play with tenyi decks since they love having 1 or more non-effect monsters on the field.

Draconnet and galaxy serpent were both used in yang zing decks to quick pump out a 1 card denglong for the immediate +1, chiwen dump, and float. So with your normal summon you got a monster that searches a solemn judgment and sets up your graveyard with chiwen, the solemn then pops denglong summoning both chiwen from gy and a zing from your deck, which can immediately be synchroed, such as ssing the level 3 and making herald for a macro and another omni negate. So for just your normal summon you got 2 solemn judgments and a macro cosmos off of a single card. Basically, whenever a super powerful level 5 synchro comes out, serpent sees play. It also comboed with brilliant fusion well, because it could be dumped and immediately be brought to your hand by summoning seraphnite, allowing for an instant level 7 synchro like ancient fairy dragon if you used your extra normal summon for it.

I get why because it and Dark Magician have legacy status, but it's still a bit odd to go into ranked duels and see so many variants of the same deck even after all of the archetypes they've added. Especially with DSOD Kaiba having some really awesome skills for the different playstyles Blue-Eyes has.

Skull servant is also a great card in servant decks. He isn't normally summoned but it's very important for combos. Also, there is a magic card that gives him 900 atk for each monster with same name in graveyard, reaching 14k+, and there is other card that allows him to direct attack bc he is lvl 1

I think it was worth mentioning how venus can essentially be a 1 card saryuja. This basically lets you restart with 5 cards in hand except you get to fix your hand, as well as saryuja providing a special summon from hand which makes up for the fact you had to use your normal summon on venus, not to mention now you get to start your plays with saryuja providing 3 extra monster zones.

Yay Mystical Shine Ball is #1! 🙌🏻 I have three copies of this card in my deck along with Agent of Creation-Venus. When I have all three Shine Balls on the field, I like to use Photon Booster to give them all 2000 ATK; and if I happen to have Solar Ray set face down on the field then my opponent is in for a world of hurt. 😁

I think harpie lady needs an honourable mention! She was the OG! At the time she was a huge moment in the anime when she first debuted in Mai Valentine’s deck because she had an endless supply of support spells and traps ! Till this day harpie lady gets support cards for it. Might not be meta or as popular as it was but the OG harpie lady started it all!

Galaxy serpent is a beauty for my hieratic decks. Easily jump into lvl7/8 synchros. Flamvell guard and labradorite dragon also allows for some flexibility

There’s only one card in the game with scale 13, I believe. There are many with scales below that, there are even a few scale 0s, but for 13 I believe only goes to a single monster, who also happens to not be very good.

@@M3G4T3RR4 yes, gate infinity's restriction is very bad, a pendulum deck can't afford not being able to pendulum summon, and that restriction is stupid since it's deck can't even abuse the fact that he's a scale 13 because Z-ARC can't be special summoned except by fusion. So why bother making him a scale 13 when you could make him a scale 9 with a less restrictive restriction like "you can only pendulum summon dark pendulum monsters" and keep the other effects that allow you to search materials for Z-ARC

You can also summon Dragun of Red-Eyes with Master of Illusions and Dark Magician. It negates Masters' "destroy at the End Phase" effect so.. Pretty easy.

I would have put Blue-eyes as number one simply for it's longevity. Like it will constantly be at peast tier 2. It won a worlds. Idk Blue-eyes always feels like a good card to own 3 of where a lot of the other cards might fade totally from one card being limited

I want to give a special mention to Skull Servant because on YGOPro I love my Skull Servant deck, one purpose, send all your monsters to the GY and Normal/Special Summon a Level 1 monster with 10 000+ ATK, not meta but fun. Question: If you bring out Dragun of Red-Eyes with Eye of Timaeus, does it lose its destruction effect?

I'll say it's specific to Duel Links, but I play Megalosmasher next to a bunch of other level 4 2k/0 monsters (and chainsaw insect) because I also play Masked Chameleon, and it enables a lot of quick extra deck plays, surrounding levels 7/8 (if you run some level 3 monsters with no defense, otherwise it's just level 8 or rank 4 extra deck plays)

I haven't played Yugioh since GX and even then it was just the GBA game. I think I may have had a deck way way back in the day though. So I barely understood fusion cards, but then you show synchros and I'm confused. Then you show these blue monster cards with arrows on them and I'm completely lost. Next you show a monster that's also a spell card and I'm even more lost. Still an enjoyable video. Normal monsters I understand completely.
