Sixth Sense was unbanned for one format to sell the pack it came it; it wasn't for testing or anything, it's not like Snatch Steal where it might be okay, "draw 5 or 6 cards 1/3 of the time" is not an effect that needs testing to see if it's too strong anymore. Mirage of Nightmare is cool because the main character of the GX anime used a combo with it and Emergency Provisions to draw a bunch of cards every single time he used it, it was obviously broken even in that environment. A similar thing happened with a main character in the original anime, Joey Wheeler of all people, who bounced Premature Burial back to his hand with Giant Trunade so he could reuse it.

There's is a difference between the ocg and tcg decks builds. The ocg cares more about being versatile and flexible in their decks builds. So these suppose staple cards aren't used much in their decks.
@qty13155 жыл бұрын
I've read that the main difference is that in TCG tournaments the decks and strategies are predictable, people simply use the most popular decks and archetypes at the time (Dragon Rulers, Blue Eyes, Spyral) so in the TCG people have a good idea of what their opponents will try to do, and they'll have cards in their deck to counter their strategies. So, draw power and searching becomes important because you need to get to those counter cards or your combo cards as soon as possible to win the game. In the OCG, as far as I know, draw power cards aren't much help. They don't want a 37-card deck so that they can get to their specific cards quickly to begin their combos or counter their opponent's combos. They would rather have their 3 Upstart Goblins replaced with cards that actually affect the game state. It's about using a variety of different play styles rogue deck strategies to fake out your opponent so that they don't know how to counter your cards, or might not have any counter options at all. It isn't about playing the "Who can get to their win condition on their third turn," game.
@theonethathungers55525 жыл бұрын
Gerald Weir Really? They still want their win conditions ASAP, they just put a lot of rouge elements and tech into their deck, which doesn’t leave much space for draw power

Ages ago, when I played in tournaments. Friend of a friend was talking big and setting up a tournament in their town. Inviting us and talking smack. Daring him, his brother and myself to enter a traditional tournament. I was a collector of the ban list(all rarities) so it was easy to build my friend a cookie cutter chaos-yata deck. I put each of the draw cards banned at the time(COSR, PoG, GC and MoN) along with generic revival. This was into my gemini deck that still managed to average 4-1 when I entered with it. It was fun to watch these players realize their mistake as my friend slammed everyone in his path. I heard cheers during the only time I took damage from one of them, Ookasi was the only way they pulled it off...once. I was able to get my graveyard set up by turn two and only once couldn't make a full board. Needless to say, getting the old draw cards made my deck from rogue but good enough to broken as hell at the time. I've always been a Graceful Charity player, enjoying the extra card while thriving under tough choices at the time. Oh, my friend Yata-Locked me on turn one in the finals. WotBF, Sangan, Breaker, Magician of Faith and DMOC. Gave him DMOC and saw Monster Reborn with a smirk as I uttered "No fcking way". Monster Reborn, Painful Choice and CED opening hand. I sat back and played it out, so the players could see how broken traditional used to be(it got way worse). Yes, was me just sitting there with NOTHING to do. TLDR: Put traditional format players in their place by playing gemini and overwhelm them, taking only 800 from ookasi during the whole tourney(save winner I built deck for who brought me along).

If I recall right, Mirage of Nightmare and Card of Safe Return was apart of the Zombie World Structure Deck mainly because they had great synergies with the Zombie types and could lead you to bring out so many Zombies while always recycling your hand which was pretty good combined with Zombie World on the field
@ZombieSlayerTakashi2 жыл бұрын
Fast forward to today with the release of Master Duel, which follows the ocg ruling, it seems Maxx C is easy to play around. You just gotta weigh the worth of the monsters you are special summoning against the cards your opponent draws. The biggest threat is them drawing their hand traps.
@shis19884 жыл бұрын
Even in the time Charity was not banned, *every deck* somehow benefitted from it. Spellcasters could pull the Dark Magician from the grave with Skilled, Dark Paladín same thing; zombies always wanted their stuff in the grave as well as they had no issue bringing them back and combining with safe return to always have an advantage; Dark world decks wanted to discard by effect to fill the field... This is 2006 by the way. Edit: oh right, and fiends could easily summon Necrofear by using Charity to drop fiends to banish. Damn... that takes me back.
@Monty22895 жыл бұрын
Graceful Charity is an ambiguous hand neutral. Depending on the actions after the card results it's really more of a hand +/? where AT WORST you're neutral. and at best is dependent on 7 cards in your hand before the discard. Tbf Pot of Greed works in every deck. Not every deck wants to discard but the max benefit of Charity is infinitely better than the max benefit of Pot of Greed.

I‘m an OCG player, just want to say MaxxC is very good to counter engine decks, and OCG banned most of the FTK finisher so that they allowed Chicken game and upstart goblin and pot allowed in the meta. I think TCG needs MaxxC, you just cannot counter engine decks with those once per turn handtraps.

Maxx 'C' is an interesting card. It seems like a counter to current meta strategies to stop swarming. This has been a thing for years now. BUT, i think there is something wrong with the game state were 1. they decide, no we are to lazy to allow counter-play to this playstyle. It's all we know now. And worse, 2. You can counter-play the counter-play by special summoning MORE THAN 30+ TIMES IN A SINGLE TURN! HOLY SHIT WHAT A BROKEN ASS GAME!

Exactly. I’ve heard from another yugituber that OCG players don’t care about draw power at all so draw power cards are whatever to them. Thus draw power *is not* the most powerful effect in yugioh when OCG shrugs at that.
@sethen1325 жыл бұрын
It's not that they dont care about drawing lol. Finalists both ran 3x maxx c. The reason it's allowed is because the entire premise of a card game is chance and baiting people. Why not leave it up to chance to see who gets the first draw card as well?

spellbook of judgement was what held back dragon rulers from being tier 0. If a 1 spell card can hold back an archetype like dragon rulers, its real good.

@@FrostySnow1000 one card that held back dragon rulers, but it wasnt that one card. it was also a matter of deck popularity. Spellbooks were insanely popular before dragon rulers existed (people seem to really like the "magician" themed archetypes), staying relevant with mermails, evilswarm, etc during their popular streaks. So an already popular deck getting a strong new card like that is bound to keep people playing the deck. But get rid of jowgen the spiritualist and spellbooks weren't going toe-to-toe with a deck like dragon rulers. And if you banned jowgen then with all the existing cards today, spellbook of judgement would be easy enough to deal with. My original comment didn't say spellbook of judgement was bad or anything. But to call it the most broken card when it was strong in one or two formats and cards like sixth sense and soul charge defined formats on their own and made every deck that used it op... doesn't seem right

Rewatching this after ages, just realized Appropriate isn't on this list... If you build your deck around Appropriate with cards like Dark Bribe (to activate Appropriate) and Bistro Butcher/Chainsaw Insect, you can literally draw your entire deck in one turn if running multiple copies of Approrpiate and Dark Bribe gives you great negates! @@some_gaming look, every single person brings up Pot of Desires banishing one-off cards like it's the end of the world. Most decks aren't so dependent on those cards to win the duel, and those that do are usually able to fetch the card immediately so they can do so before they activate Desires. Yes, Desires has some risk in its cost, but it's quite easy to mitigate with good deckbuilding and strategy. Besides that, banishing cards from your Deck, where they are not in play, or reachable to you, is often going to be preferable to removing virtual advantage from your Graveyard.
