Here is a new video for OUTSIDE CORNERS!
kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWq3koJ5YtCmnac
Thanks for the support everyone!
I hope you guys enjoy this quick video on crown molding for beginners. This trick usually only works for perfectly straight corners. You will have to get more advanced when doing crown in an old home and coping the crown will have to be done. How to cut crown molding isn't rocket science, you just need to practice over time. I do it very little! I'm not an expert in the slightest!

I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve already watched a few dozen videos on this or whether it’s just that this guy finally made it make sense but now I GET IT. I now understand the inversion principle PLUS I now understand which side needs to be longest given an inside or outside corner. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 🙏🏽

Also remember!!! Never cut directly on the line! The saw blade is 1/8 thick, and if you cut directly on the line then it will shorten your piece by 1/16 if not the 1/8... blade needs to be on the outside of your line if that makes sense! See and have made tons of errors shorting pieces that way and it’s extremely frustrating

When I was in high school, I took both a construction class and a woodworking class and man was it a lot of fun for sure!! We didn't make crown molding cuts but we did make miter cuts, rip cuts, cross cuts, etc. In construction we also learned about how to make a bird's mouth cut where I think it's cut at a 45° angle or something and we also learned how to build a shed as well. In woodworking we also learned not only just how to make accurate measurements and glue them up, but we also learned how to make fun projects like I made a coffee table, flag, Chinese Checkerboard, and a big clip as well! Man was it such a huge blast and I really hope to do more of that stuff in the future now that you showed us this video man thanks so so much for this!

Quick and simple video for cutting crown molding. I installed 400 feet of CM in our house about 15 years ago but today, I installing four pieces in our toilet room so your video was helpful. My only negative was your comment at the 4:00 mark when you were getting ready to cut a small piece of CM, really too small to safely cut and your comment was it "a little too little for....a little to small but WE WILL MAKE IT WORK". Also, I didn't see any safety google being used when using the miter saw. One should NEVER has such a casual attitude around power tools and speaking from personal experience, one should ALWAYS wear safety googles. About 45 years ago, while sanding a transom on the back of a 48" wood power boat and NOT wearing safety googles, a little piece of old chipped paint fell off and landed on my eye surface. We tried to wash it out on the job site.....no success.. The surface tension had it firmly in place....I had to go to an ophthalmologist and even he spent several minutes before he was able to remove it. SAFETY FIRST.....for your EYES and your digits !

this video was good but would've been better if you emphasized the angle of the sawcut and where to put the mark on the crown to get the right measurement for the wall insode corner to inside corner. I'm confused about that. Since it's not a straight cut like when you do baseboard because a baseboard sits right in the inside corner and crown does not, i'm unsure where to measure on the crown to get the right final distance. good tip on not bending your tape into a corner.

I figured out this crown cutting method myself, but had trouble to measure the exact length !!! This video teaches me the trick, so simple that I never thought about it, I am only good at figuring out complicate stuff, pretty weird me. I just finished 3 crown molding in my home (8 ft x 8 ft, two of them at 4 x 4), still have one more to go 10 ft x 4 ft. It's real fun to do this. To be honest, I did one wrong cut per room, my mind was else where when I made this cut and all I can say was Oh. Sh.sh sh sh.. Forgot to mention, the recessed areas (light fixture boxes on the ceiling) are 6" deep !!! I had to install flat molding at the edge, then above it the crown molding. The crown molding overlaps the flat one by nearly an inch.

Most important thing is to make sure your saw it set up correctly. Make sure the blade is square to the table and the fence. Even the slightest bit off throws all your cuts out of whack. Plus most inside corners aren’t 90 degrees and same goes for the outside corners. Good luck everyone.
