My dad worked for Columbia Records as an accountant. It must have been 1964 when Tony Bennett was in the office in Manhatten, and took some of the regular guys out for a drink. It was one of my father's glowing memories. Rest in peace, Tony.

My mother and father met there after WW2. I was born there. My relatives are buried there. I miss the hills, Playland, the eucalyptus trees in the park, the cable cars. Everything. Soon, it will be my turn to come home. Thank you, Tony, for the memories. Rest in peace for all the joy you brought. 🙏

Amen, I grew up just south of San Francisco, and moved away after college. Everything you said just strikes a chord in my heart and makes me miss San Francisco. The fog, the cold wind from the ocean, Golden Gate park, the hills, cable cars, Giants baseball, the food, the neighborhoods, and the eucalyptus trees that were everywhere. There's nothing like it anywhere else.

Tonny we love you everywhere. I was born in Nicaragua but I have family living in San Francisco. When they visited us in late 70s my mom put this tune. Those were years that nobody move to USA. Anyway due to Sandinistas we move to USA but no SF due earthquake. Anyway you will be part of my childhood when my mom put these LP in Managua and she to me feel in USA. I enjoy watching you with mom in Ravinia Festival in High Park, IL where we live.

@@googlefashists4986 Stranger in Paradise , and btw Sinatra called Bennett 'the greatest singer in the business' who cares he has less iconic songs, he has 70 albums and a dozen of them gold or platinum. , this genre of music just doesn't produce many mainstream hits, Sinatra is also mostly known for 'My Way' and a handful other songs, while he has produced hundreds of songs that all people (except hardocre fans) have forgotten

Wow! A great past moment, with the 'iconic' Tony Bennett singing his 'signature song'. 'I left My Heart In San Francisco' (I probably saw that performance live on the Sullivan Show that Sunday when I was teen then.) With all the confusion in our society today in places like San Fran., I can only hope that the 'spirit' of this song, about a great American city, will infuse it with hope of its former beauty and glory. And BTW, great job, Mr. Bennett.

After eight years of being rejected by numerous artists, the song finally came to the attention of Tony Bennett in 1961. Bennett recorded it in '62, and the rest is history. It was Cory & Cross' only commercial success... but _what_ a success!

Actually, Perry Como had recorded it first. Bennett had Perry's Summer replacement show for two seasons. The song was a bigger success than it's sales, it only reached number #19 on the Billboard charts.
